1) PM me (Red) the top 100 Active songs of 2006, all ranked to your preference. (e.g. if you like a song the most, you rank it the highest and vice versa.)
2) The points a song has will be totaled up based on an inverse point system. So, if you rank a song #100, it gets 1 point, and if you rank a song #1, it gets 100 points. All the points from the participants will be totaled up.
3) The current due date/deadline for submission is Sunday, March 11th at 8pm US Eastern. This allows for shazam to have at least one off day for the 2006 Alt RD, in case he needs it.

Hello, everyone. Retro rock chart rankdowns...I'm back.

After the adventure that was 2017 Alt, I decided to take a bit of a break from hosting rankdowns. Of course, with me, I can't take a break for long. I'm also hosting the third Journey rankdown (finally), but I also wanted to host another Active rankdown, especially this particular year, 2006, which has some of my personal favorite songs of the decade taking up residence in the house of the top 100. I'm looking forward to taking all of you on a long and winding ride through the songs that Active 2006 has to offer. Here's to hoping you all enjoy yourselves as much as I will enjoy hosting this rankdown! It will be nice to do one of these with a little less pressure than the last time I hosted a rock chart rankdown.

It was meant to be a joke. I posted that because of how ridiculous it is to see the Killers on an Active rankdown.

We're typing in Georgia font, and you know what that means...WAIT! I'M COMING UNDONE...WITH BALLOT UPDATES! It's time for the first 2006 Active version of the ballot update! Our first three contestants are no stranger to Active rankdowns (Lordef†ones, wheatsquares33, and janinho). How did these three posters affect the early stages of this rankdown? Well, let's consider some stats, shall we?

Some stats to consider:
- Five songs have been in every top ten from the beginning. Three of them are in the top four, and two of those are the current top two.
- We'll mention the gap between #1 and #2 shortly, but the gap between #1 and #3 is nine points. #3, meanwhile, is over twenty points ahead of #4.
- Two points separate #6 and #9. Only seven points separate #6 and #11. Of course, it's still early, so these close gaps make sense now. We'll see how long this lasts before wider gaps start to emerge.
- Six songs have been in every bottom ten. Fittingly, these six songs are the current bottom six.
- #100 is the only song currently not to have double digit points. This will change, obviously, but how embarrassing for the #100. The good news, though, is that the #100 is still within striking distance of escaping the bottom ten, thanks to it being early in the ranking process. We'll see if it escapes its predicament.
- For the first time in a Red ballot update (or at least the first time in a long time), WE HAVE STANDARD DEVIATION UPDATES! Some of the early highest SD contenders likely won't have that high of a SD by the time we get to the reveals, but some early contenders are already rising to the top there. The current highest standard deviation can be found at #31. Meanwhile, the current lowest standard deviation is...you guessed it...#100. The second-lowest is in the top ten, however.
- And, of course, what would a Red Rankdown or a Red Ballot Update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...


This might be a first. We're not just SOUNDING THE ALARM, we're doing something pretty crazy, even with it being early in the ranking process: We're busting out a #1 ALARM!!! That's right, there's a tie all the way at the very top. We also have another top ten tie at #8, as well as ties at deep breath #15, #21, #29, #34, #37, #45, #49, #51, #55, #57, #85, #89, and #92.

Interesting. My list doesn't hold much surprises I'm sure everyone knows exactly what my top five is. My bottom ten also features my usual suspects with one band doubling up and another tripling up down there.

Although for the first time ever I think, my #100 is a first time listen. It will also be a LAST time listen. What an atrocity, can't wait to see how people defend this one

The next three contestants ready to step up to the podium are no strangers to Active rankdowns, at this point (@humanshazam, rgreen0625, and Daryl the Beryl), but how did these three posters affect the overall ranking? Well, there's only one way to find out...

Some stats to consider:
- From five songs in the last update, we are now down to just three songs that have been in every top ten from the beginning. These three songs make up three of the top four, though, and they look in decent shape in terms of staying there, for now.
- There is no tie at the top this ballot update, not even close. #1 not only stays at #1 through the course of this ballot update, it is also currently over 40 points ahead of #2, and around 50 points ahead of the song that was tied with #1 in the last update. That song is now #4, but it's only seven points ahead of the new #2 and a single point behind #3. It's also well ahead of the rest of the pack currently, 40 points clear of #5.
- Currently, five points separate #5 and #6, while only three points separate #7 and #8.
- The current gap between the top ten (so #10) and #11 is twelve points. #11, meanwhile, is just a point ahead of #12 and two points ahead of #13.
- The same six songs have been in every bottom ten. These songs currently make up the bottom five and six of the bottom seven.
- #100 changed during the course of this ballot update, with the new #100 currently fourteen points behind #99. It's also already almost 100 points behind #90.
- Who wants some more STANDARD DEVIATION UPDATES? We have a new highest standard deviation, with the old highest moving down to fourth-highest. The current highest SD is at #36. One song went from having one of the lower standard deviations to having one of the top ten highest by the end of this ballot update. Meanwhile, on the low end of the scale, the lowest SD also changed, with the third-lowest in the previous update becoming the lowest in this update. That song is currently at #84. The second-lowest SD, meanwhile, is also in the top ten...and even higher than the previous second-lowest SD.
- And, of course, what would a Red Rankdown or a Red Ballot Update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...


Well, there are no alarms that need to be set off for this ballot update, but we do still have plenty of ties. They can be found at #19, #42, #45, #52, #55, #59, #63, and #72.

On a side note, I've noticed that submissions have slowed down tremendously since the last ballot update, but it's not like I wasn't expecting it. I hope my gut feeling that people are just waiting until the last week holds true.

What did they do to the poor rankdown, which just wanted to rest for a while and not be attacked by rankings? Well...

Some stats to consider:
- The same three songs that have been in every top ten from the last update remain that way in this update. They are still three of the top four.
- #1 was not only able to stick around for another three updates, its lead grew. It's now nearly 70 points clear of #2. #2, meanwhile, is only a single point ahead of #3, so that spot is still up for grabs. #1 also has a near 100 point lead over #4, so things are currently looking good for the #1.
- Gaps are starting to form in the top ten, but there are still some close songs in said top ten, with #7 ahead by a single point over #8.
- The current gap between the top ten (so #10) and #11 is only four points. The gap between #11 and #12 is a little larger, though still not large: Ten points.
- The same six songs have been in every bottom ten. These songs include the current bottom four and five of the bottom six, but one song is actually relatively close to escaping the bottom ten in comparison to the other songs, just a little over 20 points behind #90.
- For a while, it looked like the end of the second update's #100 was going to reign supreme at the bottom again...only for #100 to change by the end of this update. Go figure. The #100 after ten rankings is over 100 points behind #90, so it will have a very uphill climb to avoid sticking around at the bottom.
- Who wants some more STANDARD DEVIATION UPDATES? This time, the highest standard deviation did not change, though its lead over the second-highest SD has increased substantially. The highest SD is currently located at #31. The lowest standard deviation did change, however, with the previous lowest SD moving down to seventh-lowest. The new lowest SD is our #1...and it's the lowest by a longshot.
- And, of course, what would a Red Rankdown or a Red Ballot Update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...


Once again, we don't have any alarms to set off, but we do have ties! We have ties at #27, #42, #51, #67, #87, and at #90. We also have something rare: A three-way tie. Actually, strike that, we have TWO three-way ties! Those two three-way ties can be found at #16 and #31.

We're typing in Georgia font, and you know what that means...SEIZE THE BALLOT UPDATE! It's time for the fourth 2006 Active version of the ballot update! This go-around, we have two Active regulars (Doc Indie Party Rock and American Idiot) and one who is decidedly not an Active regular (Sambalada) who are ready to shape the ballot with their rankings. This ballot update is a little crazy (no, not "crazi", not yet), so buckle up...

Some stats to consider:
- The same three songs that have been in every top ten from the last update continue to be in the top ten. Two are still in the top five, but one is now just outside the top five at #6.
- At one point during this update, #1 had a nearly insurmountable lead. That lead shrunk by the end of the update, but the lead for #1 is still larger than it was in the last update, with #1 holding more than a 75 point lead over #2. Meanwhile, #2 has a 50 point lead over #3, so, barring something truly unexpected happening, the top two will likely be the top two at the end of the ranking process.
- Things have gotten closer in the top ten, including #3 only holding a four point lead over #4. Meanwhile, #5 through #7 are separated by three points, while #8 through #10 are separated by five points.
- The current gap between the top ten (so #10) and #11 decidedly grew within this ballot update, with #10 now ahead of #11 by over 30 points. #11, meanwhile, is nearly 30 points ahead of #12.
- We have a somewhat exciting bottom ten update! One of the six songs in the bottom ten in every update escaped the bottom ten. The other five songs were not so lucky, still stuck in the bottom ten after every ranking. Not one of them is higher than #94.
- After escaping #100 at the end of the last update, the previous #100 is back at the bottom...and geez, did its situation get worse. At one point, #100 was behing #99 by over EIGHTY points. It did shrink the gap to under 70 points by the end of the ballot update, but it's also now more than double its own points behind #90. That is not a typo. It's going to be bottom ten in the very best scenario.
- Who wants some more STANDARD DEVIATION UPDATES? The standard deviations also changed dramatically over the course of this ballot update. The new highest standard deviation wasn't even on the radar, but this update shot its standard deviation straight to the top. That highest SD is in the 81-90 range. Meanwhile, the new second highest SD is in the bottom ten. As for the lowest standard deviations, the newest lowest SD can be found near the top, in the top five. The second lowest, a former lowest SD, is, like the highest SD, in the 81-90 range.
- And, of course, what would a Red Rankdown or a Red Ballot Update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...


No alarms, we can all rest easy, but we do have ties at #14, #21, #27, #37, #39, #75, and all the way down at #93.

Well shame on the dropouts. Banjos and heavy synthesizers are no substitute for loud, kick-ass electric guitars.
