Well, I was right about 2 of the last 3 eliminations! I think I might have overranked this due to my familiarity with Alan's version. I still enjoy the song, but I don't feel bad seeing it miss the top 10. Speaking of the top 10, I am thrilled to see Dolly, Reba, and The Judds all make it this far unscathed!!!!! Throw in Patty Loveless, and I literally know and love 70% of the top 10, despite the fact that the majority of the rankdown was new discoveries for me No complaints from me!

Encore! We say goodbye to five more 80’s Ladies of Country tonight including the legendary Barbara Mandrell.
K.T. Oslin "Hold Me" This has always been one of my favorite songs by K.T.; it went on to win the Grammy Awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song in 1989.
Juice Newton "Angel of the Morning" One of Juice’s biggest hits came from this crossover hit of 1981.
Mary Chapin Carpenter "Opening Act" Mary performed this at the 1990 CMA Awards before anyone really knew who she was; she has never mentioned who the song is referencing but I believe I read once where Ray Price’s name was brought up.
Barbara Mandrell "Sleeping Single in a Double Bed" This is another favorite of mine from Barbara which was a hit back in 1978.
Charly McClain "Sleeping with the Radio On" This was another top 5 hit for Charly back in 1981 that followed up on the success of “Who’s Cheatin’ Who.”.

Lol nobody knows any of these songs well enough to understand any of the hints Gurl, everybody knows Queen and Heart. I'm saying that nobody knows the songs in this rankdown well enough to guess the hints! Gurl, the clue for "Queen of Hearts" was incredibly obvious and didn't even require any knowledge of the song's actual content/lyrics I see you coming in here acting like you know everything when you didn't even make a guess yourself...

"Angel of the Morning" >> "Queen of Hearts" I would've been much kinder to that one in my rankings. Gurl, the clue for "Queen of Hearts" was incredibly obvious and didn't even require any knowledge of the song's actual content/lyrics I see you coming in here acting like you know everything when you didn't even make a guess yourself... Hard to make a guess when you aren't here to do it tbh. Also you kept speaking for other people by saying "nobody knows these songs" so it seems fair to do the same back.

Okay, but you know that was just hyperbole for "this song list is mostly obscure enough to be first-listens and new discoveries for people, so I'm not surprised nobody is getting the hints." You know me and my dramatic flair well enough to know that I never mean literally what I say! Lol

If it hasn't been noticed already I'm only doing hints from pop songs of the 80's edit: well more rock/pop songs...and of course there was The Golden Girls but that was the only exception lol

Here's a nice video I discovered while doing this rankdown... You've gotta love an artist who always goes out of their way to honor the people who paved the way for them! By the way, how about that surprise special guest, tim? Loved this! Barbara Mandrell was actually the one who presented George with his first CMA Entertainer of the Year award in 1989 :)

I love Who's Cheatin' Who, wish it had made the top 10. It'd been a good number of years since I last heard and it hasn't lost any of its charm.

I'm going to start counting down the Top 10 here in about an hour, but until that time here's some stats: The top 3 songs all have the lowest standard deviation: ~ the #1 song comes in with the 2nd lowest standard deviation ~ the #2 song has the lowest standard deviation of all the songs in the rankdown Everyone but LBTrocks still has their #1 song intact (his was "It's Like We Never Said Goodbye" by Crystal Gayle). Only myself and dub have their top 5 ranked songs still in. Top 10’s remaining:someguy: 7 tim: 6 castleoblivion26: 6 dub: 6 bboat11: 5 .indulgecountry: 5 Cody Wants Out...: 4 LBTrocks: 4 Glove Slap: 4 rgreen0625: 3 BackwoodsBarbie: 3 sabre14: 3 Kanenrá:ke : 3 I'd love to see those top 10 predictions and what you think might end up being the top 5 songs of the rankdown!

I have NO. IDEA. how this is gonna play out. 10. Turn It Loose 9. Can't Even Get the Blues 8. Nobody 7. Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses 6. Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That 5. Seven Year Ache 4. 9 to 5 3. Timber, I'm Falling in Love 2. Why Not Me 1. Whoever's in New England I can see anything from my predicted #10-#7 leaving next, but I can also see Nobody outlasting Seven Year Ache from some odd reason with one of them possibly making the top 5. I'm also unreasonably expecting to see Patty before the top 5 comes, but I think there are enough Patty supporters to get Timber in the top 5. I'm hoping my #1 can make the top 5! Snack anyone?

If anyone makes a comment about 'lol typical Flops losing his #1 first!' imma cut a bitch cuz Crystal Gayle should NOT have been out so early.
Anyway, excited to finish this up! Like I said, I do like all of the songs remaining, so regardless who wins I won't be that upset.

10. Can't Even Get the Blues - Reba McEntire Total: 202 Average: 16.46 Std Dev: 10.3
Year Released: 1982 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1
The first song in the top 10 to leave us is Reba's very first #1 song from 1982. Two lose a top 5 while another two lose a top 10; the lowest ranking for this song came in at #25! This song was also just recently showcased in bboat11 's Reba McEntire rankdown where it came in at #34 (and surprisingly bboat11 was the lowest ranker for that song lol!). I've always really enjoyed this song and Reba especially seems to have a lot of fun performing it live. {Songs Remaining}9 to 5 Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses Nobody Seven Year Ache Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

9. Nobody - Sylvia Total: 201 Average: 15.46 Std Dev: 10.75
Year Released: 1982 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1 Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Peak: #5 Billboard Hot 100 Peak: #15
Syliva's crossover hit "Nobody" from 1982 leaves next. We see the first #1 loss as we head into the top 10 while five others lose a top 10. This song exceeded all of my expectations as I did not see it being a top 10 contender when I selected it. I'm not complaining though because I think this is a great song and am happy to see everyone who ended up placing inside their top 10. Propelled by the success of "Nobody" Sylvia would go on to win the ACM Top Female Vocalist award in 1982 and earn a Grammy nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. {Songs Remaining}9 to 5 Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses Seven Year Ache Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

8. Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses - Kathy Mattea Total: 194 Average: 14.92 Std Dev: 11.69
Year Released: 1988 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1
Kathy Mattea's signature song finishes just inside the top 10 and we see our second #1 loss and this time it's Kanenrá:ke . Two others lose a top 5 while three more lose a top 10; Glove Slap finally says goodbye to their #40 (I almost couldn't believe it so I had to double check before posting this lol!). This song would propel Kathy into superstardom and she'd go on to win the CMA Single of the Year for the song as well as the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year award in 1989 and 1990; she'd also earn a CMA Entertainer of the Year nomination in 1990. {Songs Remaining}9 to 5 Seven Year Ache Timber, I’m Falling in Love Turn It Loose Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

7. Turn It Loose - The Judds Total: 184 Average: 14.15 Std Dev: 11.25
Year Released: 1988 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1
We see the third #1 loss for this reveal as we say goodbye to the first of two songs by The Judds. This song went on to get six top 10 placements while two others snuck this into their bottom 5. This song was released from their third studio album Heartland that also included the hits "I Know Where I'm Going" and "Maybe Your Baby's Got the Blues." {Songs Remaining} 9 to 5 Seven Year Ache Timber, I’m Falling in Love Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

6. Seven Year Ache - Rosanne Cash Total: 163 Average: 12.54 Std Dev: 10.5
Year Released: 1981 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: #1 Billboard Adult Contemporary Peak: #6
Your host is next to see his #1 exit the rankdown as "Seven Year Ache" leaves just outside of the top 10. This was the second song selected for 80's Ladies by Rosanne Cash ("The Way We Make A Broken Heart" came in at #32). While this song had a couple rankings in the low 30's it was propelled to the top 10 with two top 2 placements along with three top 10 placements. This song became Rosanne's first #1 song in 1981 and she would go on to accumulate eleven #1 songs including her duet "It's Such a Small World" with her then husband Rodney Crowell. Rosanne Cash has always been one of my favorites from the 80's and this song has always been my favorite from the 80's. {Songs Remaining} 9 to 5 Timber, I’m Falling in Love Whoever’s in New England Why Not Me Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That

Encore! Before we enter the Top 5 we say goodbye to three great ladies of country!
Sylvia "The Boy Gets Around" This song comes as a special request from LBTrocks ! This was a top 20 hit for Sylvia in 1983.
Kathy Mattea "Where've You Been" This has long been one of my all time favorite songs by Kathy Mattea. She would go on to win the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Performance and the song would win the Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1990.
Rosanne Cash "Tennessee Flat Top Box" Rosanne released this remake of her father's song that he recorded in 1961 and it would go on to become one of her biggest hits of the 80's. This would be become her third consecutive #1 hit.

Big thanks to tim for including "The Boy Gets Around" per my request! FANTASTIC song!!!!! One of my all-time favorites. I was obsessed with this as a kid and still adore it. I LOVE Sylvia! Definitely my second fav 80s lady. I highly recommend everyone check her music out further if you aren't familiar with it. "Nobody" isn't even that great. I love it but she can do so much better. As for who will win, I think it'll be "Whoever's In New England" or "9 To 5." Definitely pulling for the latter, but if I had to guess, I'd say "New England" will take this.

Also, a little bummed that "Seven Year Ache" was so close to the top 5 but missed out. Beautiful song. Thrilled about it's top 10 placement though!
