Good video too.

Midland in concert said βBurn Outβ is indeed the final single from their debut and a new album is due out early 2019. βFourteen Gearsβ is on the second album.

Iβm really excited about getting a second album, but at the same time, their debut has SO MANY great songs screaming to be singles, that itβs a little upsetting that they will only be able to get 3 singles out of it in the end.

I think they bungled the second and third single choices which essentially killed the momentum they had for this era (although Iβm sure it wasnβt going to be easy for them with so much recurrent airplay for βDrinkinβ Problemβ). I doubt βBurn Outβ is going to do much but I expect them to ride it out until theyβre ready for the next era.

If they had chosen Out Of Sight and This Ole Heart as the 2nd and 3rd singles, I think they would have 3 top 10's on their hands and have plenty of momentum going into album 2. I just hope they don't get pressure to pop up their sound if Burn Out stalls out early.

The label wanted an upbeat single after "Drinkin' Problem", but the problem was that "Make a Little" was really throwback, to the point it polarized some listeners and caused it to stall in the teens. "Drinkin' Problem" was also traditional but the production was just contemporary enough that it was able to win the graces of enough programmers and listeners to get where it did. I still feel "This Old Heart" is the missed opportunity on the album but "Out Of Sight" is lyrically, my favorite song on the record.

It's probably for the best that they move on to new music sooner rather than later. "Make a Little" sold horrendously and "Burn Out" isn't doing that much better at moving the needle, either. "Drinkin' Problem" did the trick for them, but neither follow-up single seemed to have energized the consumers. They need to come back hard with another slam-dunk lead single that the fans can get excited about, because so far radio's support of them has outpaced their consumer interest.

Really donβt think there was another hit on the wlg regardless. Too country. Drinking Problem just had that irresistible hook

It may be just a hiccup, but this lost 70 spins today...wonder if radio/label is dropping support for this and cutting their losses?

I think this could be a hit. It's only 19 weeks old and gaining at a decent clip, and it's also selling well for its level of airplay. Of course, there's the caveat that it could have bad callout scores because of its traditional nature, but to me it doesn't seem like a song that listeners would get "burned out" on (haha).

Officially a Top 20 hit for Midland as "Burn Out" moves from 21 to 19 this week on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart.

"Burn Out" becomes Midlands second Top 10 single moving up 5 spots to #10 on Mediabase. Radio definitely loves these guys and with the right single they should continue to see success. I really feel like "Make A Little" was a bit of a fluke.

I'm still pissed about "Make A Little". It is a great song that radio took a crap on.

Radio actually seemed to love "Make A Little", but the nonexistent sales (and bad callout?) ultimately caused them to drop it. It had a very quick rise, especially for a new group.

Yeah, I should have worded it better. Radio seems to love these guys, and so long as the song sells I think radio is willing to make it a hit. When I said flop I meant it flopped in terms of impact with consumers and it was more of a fluke because I do think Midland has a good amount of fan interest and should probably keep selling well, single wise.

I think his comment was probably directed more towards gardyfan. "Make a Little" probably actually peaked higher than it deserved to given the terrible sales and callout, imo. "Burn Out" is also doing much better at country radio here than it is with the general public, because it isn't selling particularly well either (though better than MAL did, at least). It's exceeded the expectations I had for it when it was released, as I was expecting maybe a peak in the mid-20s would be the best it would do, honestly. But they seem to be in a good spot with radio and the album has sold decently by today's sales standards.

Well with 2 radio stations here and only hearing the song one time I feel like radio didn't care.

This looks like itβs going to become their 2nd top 10 on Billboard in the next few weeks. These guys are like Brothers Osborne, highly underrated. Both should have multiple top 10 or #1 hits at radio right now. I just hope they at least release one more single from their debut album but then again maybe new material from a new album would make sense too.

Country Aircheck's year-end issue mentions Big Machine's VP of Promotion Kris Lamb teasing Midland's sophomore album dropping in March. The trio said in an interview in the UK recently that late spring/early summer would be the target.
A new single should be coming in early Q1 then. "Burn Out's" chart run will likely only result in a top 10 peak on Mediabase. They should be off it by January.

Yeah if that sophomore album is coming in March I don't see anyway this hits Top 10 on Billboard. They are probably 5th in line for the Top 10 on Billboard and I don't see Top 10 possible given how rock solid that Top 10 is.

I could see radio being VERY excited about a brand new Midland single and having it go up pretty quickly. I do think March is still pretty early though, plus with a lot of artists releasing new material at the beginning of the year, it could slow things for the new single a bit. I'd give their album an early summer release (May/June) to let the lead single turn into a decent hit before the new album drops (assuming they release the lead in January). I could also see Midland releasing an album without a single very deep into airplay yet, but given that they're actually in good graces with radio currently, I wouldn't do that. I'd for sure let the lead be at least top 20 by the time of release of album #2.

Well, I guess you can say this... burned out. How so? The song had a long slow chart climb, if anything the chart climb was a slow burn (shameless Kacey Musgraves reference). A burn out chart run is like what happened to "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", where the song has a high debut and then stalls out quickly and leaves the chart.

I was hoping the label would try to get at least a top 5 single out of this wonderful song, but after 25+ weeks on CT40, I'm not surprised by their label's decision.
It's back in the top 10 after Mediabase finally sent 'Lose It' off to recurrentville which should have happened sooner according to Mediabase's own ruebook, but better late than never, I guess.
