The last tie!!Hints for #18 & 1718: Hard pass. Boring, sappy. 17: Sublime and catchy, but lacking the punch of her later hits. It also drags on just a little bit too long. Whitney SpotlightLet's clear out some detritus... "A Song for You" - a staple of Whitney's live shows that was finally recorded for I Look to You"Where You Are" - a pleasant song on her sophomore effort, but definitely not strong enough to be a single "Family First" - a sappy ballad combining Whitney, Cissy, and Dionne for the first time on record.

I'm guessing #18 is "WDBHG" based on what some of you have posted, but I rebuke that description you gave it lol.

I loved "Susan" in the 90s, then it fell off hard (much like most of the IYBT album).

'Susan' is my favorite Whitney uptempo and it should play from the jukebox of every gay establishment in the entire free world instead of IWDWS. Also, I absolutely live by Israeli icon Dana International's mostly Arabic, even higher camp and occasionally chilling reinterpretation that lit up the black market of Egypt. In fact, to the point where the government was jailing record shop owners and disc jockeys over a Whitney Houston cover by a Jewish transwoman.

2 of my top 4! Ugh. I will stan for both until the day I die. Her vocals on both are supreme. "You Give Good Love" is so smooth.

Susan knocks, RTY is stunning, YGGL is sublime.
Where Do Barren Farts Go can choke. It has no business being in the top half.

BYE BROKEN HEARTS! "You Give Good Love" is aiight, I'll listen if it's playing on the radio or in public, but I don't really feature her first album (outside of "All At Once", "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" and "Thinking About You").
They reached pop (almost) perfection with the second album, but BROKEN HEARTS sucks, and I never did like "For The Love Of You" - hers, or the Isleys. Color me surprised though, that my favorite song of all time is still in this thing.
Oooohhh yeah-yeah!

Just got back from watching the documentary Whitney and think it's definitely worth checking out. No matter how many times I see it watching Whitney perform the Star Spangled Banner just gives me goosebumps all over my body.

So show some reeeeee-spect! For the love you reeee-ceive! My name is not Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuusan!
My Name Is Not Susan is life! So, so underrated.
You Give Good Love, in retrospect, is basically Dangerous Woman's mother.
Where Do Broken Hearts Go is saccharine but Whitney bodies it. I'm not sure why that song of all of her 80s hits is the one that was deemed "too white." TBH 90% of 80s r&b (up until new jack swing) was pop sounding af, though it's hard to say whether that was b/c 80s r&b was aiming to be as people pleasing as possible to avoid disco stigma or b/c pop music was swagger jacking the sound.
Damn, if I'd thought to rank Didn't We Almost Have It All on the live version I would have ranked that MUCH higher. The studio version always felt a bit too rote to me.

Active Aggressive #LisaRinna jenglisbe to clarify, YGGL is what Dangerous Woman was trying to be thematically but didn't quite get there. I don't dislike DW but it it's a little too on the nose about its subject matter? While YGGL took a set of lyrics that are really toeing the line of scandalous and classed the joint up to the point that it just sounds sleek and smooth. This is the same woman that made a song about being an eternal side piece sound as wholesome as apple pie though, so I shouldn't be surprised at her voice being able to flip the script. This probably still isn't helping that comparison make sense lol

Yup, I passed on this song until I heard the live version. It still kills me they didn't put it on that compilation of live recordings.
