Taylor Swift apparently has a new video out for "Delicate". Seems like an awful lot of money to waste on a song that is so clearly not gonna take off.

Seems like an awful lot of money to waste on a song that is so clearly not gonna take off. that was not an expensive video, really cheap i must say and the song is doing better than most of us on the forum thought currently #30 on spotify and it’s gaining (also it will get more streams tomorrow because of the new video). It‘s slowly rising at radio and she’s rising in itunes too. Nobody can really say that the song is not really taking off. I don’t think it will reach top 10 but top20 in the hot 100 would be possible if she promotes the song. youtu.be/_iOnj_x5FpYlink for the spotify video of delicate(one pf the cheapest music videos😉)

What is the 8th day effect?
Also, what is happening to "Whatever It Takes"? It was climbing up the chart so fast and now it feels stagnant.

What is the 8th day effect? its when a song dips in airplay numbers after its 8th day after officially being sent to adds To be more precise, it's when a song meets the rolling effect after a week of release and it's something only songs with large hype receive. The airplay charts are based on a seven day rolling period, meaning today's chart reflects airplay data from March 23-March 29 and tomorrow's chart will reflect March 24-March 30, etc. When an artist releases a new song as a single, it generally grows from small amounts to large amounts over a lengthy period of time and therefore it just always shows growth on the airplay charts until it begins to die. However, when an A-list artist releases a brand new song, they're going to both get a lot of first day curiosity spins from radio stations as well as a large spike from any first day deal they might have (which is extremely common these days). So they'll start off their first week of airplay with some huge number, but the next day, it will return to those "low" numbers where it has to start from and grow from. On the 8th day of airplay, it likely will not have grown enough to match its first day airplay and that will be reflected with a negative update in the airplay charts. It's actually still growing and was probably even played more on its 8th day than its 2nd through 7th, but that first day was just so large it can't compete with that. To put it in numerical terms: Biggest Artist of the Moment - Hyped Lead Single Week 1 Day 1: 37.852 (Daily Update: +37.852) [Total for Week: 37.852] Day 2: 3.487 (+3.487) [41.339] Day 3: 4.562 (+4.562) [45.901] Day 4: 5.892 (+5.892) [51.793] Day 5: 5.944 (+5.944) [57.787] Day 6: 6.002 (+6.002) [63.789] Day 7: 6.744 (+6.744) [70.533] Week 2 Day 8: 7.893 (-29.959) [40.574] Day 9: 7.997 (+4.510) [45.084]

It'll definitely be interesting to see how it all stacks up on Spotify tomorrow. Looks like "Call Out My Name" and "Be Careful" are both aiming towards top 20 debuts at least, if not top ten.

^Regarding the 8th day effect, it should be noted that the tracking week for Radio Songs and how it is accounted towards the Hot 100 is actually Monday-Sunday, while the actual radio week is aligned to the digital song sales week, which goes from Friday (the day songs are usually released) to Thursday. That means that if a song suffered a 8th day effect, it would actually have two days (Saturday and Sunday) to recover some of the AI it lost.
^^Several songs from major artists have suffered the 8th day effect, with LWYMMD's drop as one of the more extreme cases. Usually, they grew a lot since their release and dropped (cough, pay*la) significantly on their eighth day. Another song that had quite a fall by a major artist in its eighth day:
Filthy (-14.390) 48.528
As you probably know it didn't quite recover ...

In the end it doesn't really matter, if a song is popular it will reach its natural peak regardless of what day it is.

I'm hoping Welcome To The Rodeo gains some traction after the Music Video. Would love to see the best song from the album chart albeit a bit later

Can't see Cardi's new single or any of The Weeknd's tracks challenging for #1 either... it's gonna be a while until God's Plan drops.

Yeah, My Dear Melancholy is too PBR&B and in the vein of his earliest work to make too much of a splash on the Hot 100. The album as a whole is #1 on iTunes, but other than Call Out My Name, the individual tracks aren't very high. I'm not even sure streaming will be very high or even mainstream urban radio; yeah his poppier stuff did well there, but I'm not sure how exactly this particular style will do.
Another question I have is will this even count as an album, since it's only 6 tracks? I wonder what the minimum requirements are for an album, because this seems to be cutting it pretty close. If it does count as an album, it also seems it will be harder for him to get Album Equivalent Units, because even though there's six tracks, he will still have to get 10 track sales and 1500 streams for one album unit, no?

His songs are pulling monster numbers on Spotify/Apple Music already. As if iTunes matters now (being realistic), or Radio when it comes to discussing tracks not pushed as singles / album tracks charting high. The songs might not continue charting for a long time without good Radio/iTunes support, but he verywell is looking to probably get 3+ Top 40 entries if he continues to do so well on Spotify/Apple Music.

I think to quality for the album sales chart you need to have a minimum of four tracks

Just listened to Call Out My Name. It sounds like a boring version of Earned It mixed with The Hills. And was 2:19 really necessary? Is he trying to injure people's ears? I don't think Meant To Be will hit #1, but I also didn't expect it to hit the top 5 or top 2 so who knows!
