Now this one REALLY surprised me! In fact, it surprised me so much that I can't help but think that this was unwarranted! Yeah, Doug Stone isn't too well-liked here (outside of a song or two), but I thought this one was decent enough to escape the bottom five, let alone last place. As you can see, we kick things off with three top half losses including a top 30. Sadly, a slew of bottom 10 placements kept this one sliding down with no way up.

I can't deal with Doug Stone's voice. His three songs on the last rankdown constituted my bottom 3 there. That didn't repeat this time around, but he still got the lowest spot.

Re-listening to "Made For Lovin' You" now, I can see why I ranked it close to the middle, but I can also see why it made a lot of peoples' bottom 10s. It is both pretty and boring, which is a very odd combination that definitely leads to a song that I don't dislike whilst listening to it, but don't ever think about or miss when I am not listening to it.

This marks the first top 3 hit eliminated from the game; on our end, a sole ranking in the top half (i.e. top 55) leaves us at this point and only pushed it to the 90s before multiple lower rankings pushed this down into the bottom five.

Obviously one of his more forgettable ballads, I can't even remember how this goes and I played it about half a dozen times.

Multiple top 40s leave us, including a near top 20!

Simply put, I couldn't get into either of his songs here; SNCA was too overdone and ITHOAW is only a picometer better imo.

I actually don't think I'd classify it as a guilty pleasure myself. It's really pretty and is legit a good song. BRC isn't a great vocalist and that probably played a part in me ranking it lower than I might have otherwise.

If you ask me (and a couple others), I think y'all did this one pretty dirty!
That stripped-down production and that tiny acapella moment near the end of the last chorus got me all like

However, a few months later, I can now see why some may find this one pretty boring. Somehow, I can't help but feel sorry for those peeps.

"Made For Lovin' You" - I'm probably one of the few Doug Stone fans on Pulse and more than not I like his material, but this song is a snoozer. And this song was released from an album that overall was actually pretty good. We'll probably see Doug Stone return again in the 1994 Rankdown but he probably won't fare much better. Most of Doug's best material came from his debut album in 1990 and he followed that up with another successful sophomore release in 1991.

"No Future in the Past" - I know Vince Gill's material isn't all that well liked on Pulse and because of that I'm not surprised to see him out already. Again I'm probably one of the few that actually like most of Vince's output and this song is no exception...I think it's well done and I love the combination of Vince's voice with the piano and steel guitar. I also enjoy a really good sad country song and this one for sure is lol.

Billy Ray Cyrus - Another artist who I'm not surprised to see out this early with both of his songs eliminated. I agree he gets a lot of unnecessary shade thrown his way, but I've never been a fan of these two songs overall. I think Billy Ray will do much better in the 1994 rankdown with "Words By Heart" as that is one of his better songs IMO.

"Just One Night" - I'm pretty sure I used to like this song a lot more than I do now and for whatever reason it hasn't aged well at all to me. I like most of McBride & the Ride's material but listening to this one now I just find it kinda ho-hum and boring. 1992 was probably this group's strongest year so I don't think there is much material left to carry them over into another rankdown.

Actually, that's not the reason I called it déjà vu here.

As you may recall from a few months ago, a certain poster lost his first top ten pretty early in the '92 RD. That same one is also the first to lose a top ten, which put it out of the bottom ten for only a brief period of time. However, the last few lists pushed this back down into the bottom ten where I s'pose it was destined to be.

Quite frankly, I'm glad that this one is out; something about this song just didn't quite feel right for me. Felt a little sappy imo.
