www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8494802/ariana-grande-7-rings-headed-for-hot-100-debut-projectionAriana Grande's '7 Rings' Vying For No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 Debut 1/24/2019 by Gary Trust The song could launch as her second Hot 100 leader. Ariana Grande is challenging for a No. 1 launch on next week's Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Feb. 2), as her new single "7 Rings" could blast in at the summit, following its Jan. 18 release. In projecting partial-week data, "7 Rings," released on Republic Records, could launch with over 70 million U.S. streams, 20 million in airplay audience and 80,000 downloads sold, placing it in line to arrive as the most-streamed and most-sold song of the week. The Hot 100 blends weekly streaming, airplay and sales data, according to Nielsen Music. "7 Rings," which channels the melody of The Sound of Music's "My Favorite Things," and its official video, arrived at the start of the Jan. 18-24 streaming and tracking week feeding next week's Hot 100 (with airplay measured Jan. 21-27). As airplay for this week's charts (dated Jan. 26) was tracked Jan. 14-20, the single debuted at No. 30 on the latest Pop Songs airplay chart and drew 16 million in all-format airplay audience in its first three days of release. "7 Rings" is the radio follow-up to Grande's first Hot 100 No. 1 "Thank U, Next," which debuted atop the Nov. 17, 2018-dated chart and spent seven total weeks at the summit. Both songs are from Grande's forthcoming album, Thank U, Next, the follow-up to Sweetener, which arrived as her third Billboard 200 No. 1 in September. If "7 Rings" debuts at No. 1 on the Hot 100, it would mark just the 33rd single (of 1,082 No. 1s all-time) to open on top. Plus, Grande would become just the fifth artist with multiple No. 1 entrances, joining Mariah Carey, the leader with three, Justin Bieber, Drake and Britney Spears (two each). Grande should face her greatest challenges for the Hot 100's top spot next week from reigning No. 1 "Without Me" by Halsey and former leader and current runner-up "Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)" by Post Malone and Swae Lee. Highlights of next week's Hot 100 are scheduled to post on Billboard.com Monday (Jan. 28), with all charts posting the following day (Jan. 29).

Ariana Grande Is First Artist Whose First Two Billboard Hot 100 Leaders Debuted at No. 1 1/29/2019 by Gary Trust
'7 Rings' follows 'Thank U, Next' in starting at the summit.
Ariana Grande makes history on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first artist whose first two No. 1s debuted at the pinnacle. As previously reported, Grande's new single "7 Rings" soars in at No. 1 on the Hot 100 dated Feb. 2, arriving as the week's most-streamed and top-selling song. It follows her first leader, "Thank U, Next," which launched at No. 1 on Nov. 17 and ruled for seven weeks.
While Grande is the fifth artist with multiple No. 1 Hot 100 debuts in the chart's 60-year history, joining Mariah Carey (the leader with three), Justin Bieber, Drake and Britney Spears (two each), no acts before Grande debuted at No. 1 with their first two Hot 100 leaders.
Bieber came within one spot of achieving the feat. "What Do You Mean?" bowed as his first Hot 100 No. 1 on Sept. 19, 2015, and follow-up "Sorry" started at No. 2 that Nov. 14, before reaching the top on Jan. 23, 2016.
After logging 34 Hot 100 entries beginning in 2013 and reaching a No. 2 high in 2014 with "Problem," featuring Iggy Azalea, Grande has now reigned with two of her last three charted titles. Bieber had a similar trajectory, first leading with his 47th entry, ending a record wait (by total career-opening titles). He's since upped his count to five Hot 100 No. 1s.

Jonas Brothers' 'Sucker' Aiming for No. 1 Debut on Billboard Hot 100 Next Week
News
By Gary Trust | March 08, 2019 1:42 PM EST
The song could launch as the trio's first Hot 100 leader.
Jonas Brothers' comeback single "Sucker" is aiming for a possible No. 1 debut on next week's Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated March 16).
The song would mark the sibling trio's first Hot 100 leader after it charted 16 titles in 2007-09 and one more in 2013. The act has scored two Hot 100 top 10s: "Burnin' Up" (No. 5) and "Tonight" (No. 8), both in 2008.
The Hot 100 blends weekly streaming, airplay and sales data, according to Nielsen Music.
Projecting building-week data, "Sucker," released on Republic Records, should rocket in with over 40 million U.S. streams, 25 million radio audience impressions and 80,000 downloads sold after its first full week of tracking. It debuted at No. 28 on the March 9-dated Pop Songs airplay chart following its first three days of availability; it was released, along with its official video, at midnight ET Friday, March 1. (The streaming and sales tracking weeks for the March 16-dated Hot 100 will encompass March 1-7.)
Helping power the song's likely lofty totals is consumer reaction to Jonas Brothers' week-long residency this week on CBS' The Late Late Show With James Corden, including a much-buzzed-about Carpool Karaoke ride.
"Sucker" could net the second No. 1 debut of 2019 on the Hot 100, after Ariana Grande's "7 Rings" (Feb. 2). (Grande also logged the prior such start, with "Thank U, Next" on Nov. 17.) Only one song by a group in a lead role has ever launched atop the Hot 100: Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," on Sept. 5, 1998.
While "Sucker" is the first single by Joe, Kevin and Nick Jonas as the Jonas Brothers since 2013, Nick logged the No. 7-peaking solo Hot 100 hit "Jealous" in 2015. As a member of DNCE, Joe rose to No. 9 in 2016 via the act's "Cake by the Ocean."
Also on next week's Hot 100, Cardi B and Bruno Mars are aiming to return to the top five with "Please Me." Following the March 1 premiere of its official video, the song could surge from 24.4 million streams to over 35 million. The duet debuted at No. 5 on the March 2-dated Hot 100 and dipped to No. 14 in its second week.
Highlights of next week's Hot 100 are scheduled to post on Billboard.com Monday (March 11), with all charts posting the following day.

When is debuting at #1 not going to be seen as a glorious feat?
… I get we've had 1000+ #1 hits, but it's more commonplace...

Notably, Grande becomes the first artist with four No. 1 Hot 100 debuts, as all four of her chart-topping songs have arrived in the top spot. She passes Justin Bieber (with whom she shares her prior leader, "Stuck With U"), Mariah Carey and Drake, each with three No. 1 bows.

I miss the juggernaut that American Idol used to be. For 5-8 years it turned the music industry upside down and the industry didn’t know how to handle it.

It’s really much more common than ever before. I think it’s still a cool feat but not hard to execute now.
