2 songs have indeed passed the 15 week point. I think Angel was specifying that no song can claim 15 weeks as its peak, blaming the Carrie inauguration single. Ironic, as the most public BB screw-up ever (counting free promotional We Belong Together downloads) gave WBT a 'free' extra week at that 14 week peak.

Usher had 19 straight weeks with Yeah and Burn, interrupted for a week by I BELIEVE (Fantasia Barrino) then had another 3 weeks at #1 with Burn and Confessions Part II Ah, reminds me of Mariah being #1 for 24 of 25 weeks (and 26 of 33). How so?

Ugh I still wishing Usher got that... American Idol ruined everything during its peak... like Carrie Underwood stopping Mariah Carey from having the first 15 week #1. Uh... Mariah had a 16 week #1 in the 1990s Mariah & Boyz II Men. And I think the OP was referring to the fact that while there has indeed been a 16 week #1 (2 in fact now), there has never been a song that was #1 for exactly 15 weeks.

The thing I find interesting that I feel doesn't get acknowledged enough, or maybe people don't even realize, is that records keep getting broken but that's only due to the change in how the charts are tabulated first and foremost. Things may be more accurate than ever before because access to listening habits is now traceable but if anything, these new chart stats display the weaknesses of charts before now. In a way, yes. But I think it has more to do with the technology than the charts themselves. We've never lived in a time where this many people could immediately have whatever new music they want delivered straight to their pockets for free. I'm not sure if sales from decades past could ever compete. And I know that radio obviously couldn't. That's sort of semantics, no? People in the 80s and 90s were listening to music all of the time on walkmans, in their car, on boom boxes, on iPods, etc. Most of that was not measurable, though, but now streaming is measurable. It may be more immediate than ever, but I don't think people are listening to music, say, 70% more than 10 years ago. The main difference is that "we" can now measure most listening habits. You're basically saying the same thing.

Has anyone been keeping track of entries on Radio Songs lately?
I wonder if there have been songs hitting Radio Songs that haven't been able to get on the Hot 100. It would be like the 90s again...

I wasn't suggesting that more people are listening to music today, I was suggesting that more people are able to immediately access artists new music and listen to it en masse today. I think more people listened to Post Malone the day he dropped than could have ever listened to a 20th century artist the day he dropped. Because turning on Spotify and seeing the album is so much more casual and easy than going to the store and buying it. And no, I wasn't trying to argue a semantic point.

Semantics in that the other poster was saying the way charts are done now - i.e. more accurate data - showcases how inaccurate past charts were. Tomato/tomahtoe kind of thing. What I took from the original post that started this back-and-forth is the poster was saying instead of complaining about charts now, the more accurate thing is to discuss how inaccurate past charts may have been.

Oh, ok. I see there was a video out for it.
What a sad world we live in where people are freaking out over that "This Is America" video and Bhad Bhabie is forced to be in the bubbling under.
I just watched the video. Shit was hilarious as fuck. Who wants to see some old fat guy dancing around with no shirt on shooting at people? SMH

You're basically saying the same thing. I think the biggest thing is that the Hot 100 itself is different now, it's a songs chart, not a singles chart. Streaming has allowed access to all tracks in a way that's measurable, sure, but if the Hot 100 were still a SINGLES chart, that wouldn't matter as much in terms of how many songs by any given artist chart. Only the singles would be charting, meaning less records would be broken. Technology and available formats for consumption aside, the Hot 100 is a free-for-all, and there is no (or much less) label (and therefore radio) "control" of what charts and what doesn't. None of this is to take away from the obvious and incredible popularity and achievements of those who manage to chart with album bombs.

How do you get the chart, Gary? He gets these from the Billboard Biz website, which you have to subscribe to get full access to every one of Billboard's charts.

Yes, not as full as I would like though, what I post is what I get. Would love to see actual numbers rather than just rankings but that is a different and more expensive subscription

It's the biggest mistake that stuck, since Mariah kept that week at number one, but their most public screw-up was probably releasing that top ten with Lana Del Rey's "High By The Beach" at number 7 before revealing that it had actually debuted in the 50s. That was embarrassing!

Post Malone ties Michael Jackson for most entries on the Australian top 50 with 17. (MJ set the record in July 2009 after his death)

On the topic of 15 week #1's and Mariah We should also not forget that Despacito happened - LOL Yes we should. As a lifelong diehard Mariah Carey fan, I don't want to think about the fact her record has finally been matched.

We should not forget that "One Sweet Day" was NOT a Mariah solo record. She had help.
