Source? That has definitely not always been the case, as YouTube numbers are much larger than other streaming outlets, and I was under the impression that even though most YouTube streams are technically on-demand, they count less than other on-demand streams, about as much as passive/programmed streams. Ummm idk even know where to begin. This has always been the case. Youtube numbers relative to other streaming outlets vary from song to song but are all WEIGHTED the same. For example, This is America getting 40 million streams from Youtube and 25 million from on demand streaming outlets are both divided by 150. Programmed streams for This is America, lets say 8 million streams is divided by 300. Incase you still need convincing from an official source, someone please link that HDD article detailing this. Source? That has definitely not always been the case, as YouTube numbers are much larger than other streaming outlets, and I was under the impression that even though most YouTube streams are technically on-demand, they count less than other on-demand streams, about as much as passive/programmed streams. YouTube and on-demand always counted the same. YT is the most popular streaming service, but if you count all the on-demand services (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, SoundCloud, etc) as a whole, on-demand streaming is more influent on the Hot 100. "Currently, Billboard has two defined types of streaming plays for the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart (and our other genre-specific hybrid songs charts): on-demand (such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube) and programmed (such as Pandora and Slacker Radio), with on-demand having a greater weight." www.billboard.com/articles/news/8427967/billboard-changes-streaming-weighting-hot-100-billboard-200"Currently the Hot 100 is determined by dividing sales by six, BDS “audience impressions” by 7k, on-demand streaming by 1.25k and radio streaming by 2.5k. A download now equals 1,167 audience impressions, 208 on-demand streams and 416 radio streams." www.hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=308806Well, I could be mistaken, but I have been following the Billboard charts very closely for almost 15 years now, and I read the articles every week and pretty strongly remember it being mentioned that at least at one point in time YouTube streams counted less than other on-demand streams, most probably in the early days right after YouTube was added in 2013 (I tried to search for articles both by Billboard and other sources that support this but couldn't find any as of now, but if I come across something I'll definitely post it later). I would hardly call Hits Daily Double a reputable, verifiable source of Billboard's methodology and chart formulas, given how much they trash them and the acrimonious relationship they have with each other ("the Bible", etc.), but that formula, even if correct, doesn't say anything about YouTube vs. the other streaming services. In addition, neither quote from HDD or the Billboard article says that the described methodology has always been the case, just that that is what it is currently, so that does not preclude the fact that at some time in the past, YouTube could have been weighed differently than the other on-demand services. It's important to note that Billboard HAS NEVER revealed it's specific formula, giving exact multipliers for all the metrics, at any time in the modern streaming era, so statements such as "on-demand streams are divided by 150" and "programmed streams by 300" or whatever number are unofficial and unverifiable.

The data did leak in 2015, and it was confirmed that the only dividing of streaming was between on-demand and radio streams.

5 Pop songs Top 10 this week. 5 Rap songs Top 10 this week. - Kworb is predicting Kris Wu to be #1 in digital sales. kworb.net/cc/Sales have already been dead, but now they officially do not matter.

The week that Bodak Yellow was #1, they clarified how streaming works: "Rockstar" debuts at No. 1 on both Streaming Songs (44.1 million) and Digital Song Sales (80,000). (Note that "Bodak" boasts 46.4 million U.S. streams, while "Rockstar" racked 44.1 million, yet the latter is No. 1 on Streaming Songs; that's because those weekly sums are raw totals before weighting was applied that places a higher value on on-demand streams than programmed streams, like those on Pandora, where "Bodak" sports a significantly higher total than "Rockstar.") www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7973958/cardi-b-no-1-hot-100-post-malone-portugal-the-man

With the rate at which This is America is dropping on Youtube and the latest kworb sales update, im really struggling to see how most predictions have it dropping only 1 spot on the hot 100. Is it huge on Pandora??

Is it huge on Pandora?? It's not top 100 on Pandora. I had This Is America at #4 (almost #5, below Yes Indeed) before Billboard said it had 69.6M streams last week. Its 42.4M video streams is 13.4M higher than what YouTube Insights reported (29.0M), so I adjusted to calculate this week's YT streams based off 42.4M, not 29.0M. YouTube: 42.4M - 46% = 22.7M On-Demand: 26.7M - 25.5% = 19.9M Programmed: I'm using last week's 444k programmed streams 43.1M total streams (99% on-demand/YouTube + 1% programmed) + 21k downloads + 23.8M airplay = 34,400 points

Glad that'll be changing a little come July. Thanks for clarifying this. Also is Youtube insights occasionally inaccurate or is the majority of those 13.4 million streams user generated?

Would Boo'd up be the first (or one of few?) traditional R&B songs by a female artist to go Top 10 on the Hot 100 in like a decade (I'm not including Rihanna/Beyoncé singles as traditional R&B)?

It's usually accurate (not as accurate as Spotify, tho) and they count user generated videos but when it's inaccurate that's because they somehow report lower numbers to Billboard (Look Alive, Gucci Gang).

I think so. Very subjective (Is Keri Hilson too pop leaning r&b, etc…) but I think you would have to go back to Estelle's 2008 American Boy.

Why would you expect Rihanna when Love on the Brain is more r&b than Boo'd Up? Is it just because she's charted on pop? That really shouldn't matter. (Beyoncé too, but I'm struggling to think of any song from her that's as "traditional" r&b as BU and LOTB that went to ten. I could see a case for Irreplaceable.) Edit: Forgot Me Myself & I went top ten too, that's definitely r&b.

Psycho overtaking Nice for What is one of the more dramatic things that have happened on radio airplay this year. Considering that Nice for What got the Radio Airplay award on the Hot 100 for several weeks straight due to its meteoric rise and Psycho getting it last week. It looks like Psycho will probably get it again next week, unless No Tears Left to Cry gets it. It almost feels like Nice for What could be nearing its peak soon.
Also, if Never Be the Same ends up overtaking The Middle for #1, it would probably happen next week unless it gains increase and/or The Middle's losses increases.

I think the OP was talking about songs by artists that don't have the traditional trappings of mega superstardom (thus his exclusion of Rih / Bey - MC would fall under that category). The 90s and 00s were filled with top 10s by grass roots contemporary r&b acts. This sounds like one of them.

Without Kris Wu the #1 would be below 30k Kris Wu was always going to be #1 since he topped iTunes most of the week (and by a wide margin). The bigger deal is it’s with under 50k* in sales. This is why people keep saying iTunes positions aren’t a big deal. *I remember hot100predictions saying it had sold 41k before day 1 ended, so that was obviously wrong.

Correct me if I am wrong, the kworb site projects sales for the week so that 41K may have been a weekly projection?

It hadn’t projected sales until the current figure for this week. I believe the user who stated a day 1 of 41k has frequently misinterpreted the live stats.

Correct me if I am wrong, the kworb site projects sales for the week so that 41K may have been a weekly projection? I just found the post I referenced: OMG. Who the hell is Kris Wu? He has sold nearly 41k copies of Like That on iTunes in the US since its release at 11pm ET last night. It does good on streams, and it may be headed for a Top 10 debut on Billboard on the 6/2 chart.

I still feel like 'Psycho' could top the Hot 100 if they give it some final push before Drake releases his album.

I'm not complaining though, it's a fantastic song.
