Is there any proof of this “payola” nicki stans on instagram keep saying in response to cardis chart success? no more than Nicki and other people received in their prime. I hate how people pretend the game was invented yesterday. From Aretha to the Beatles to MJ to Mariah to Rihanna... The game has been and will continued to be played. It's easier when there is a demand but the demand is the cake and ads/promos/payola and other tactics are the sprinkles and icing. but if the cake doesn't exist, then you are just eating out of a duncan hines icing jar. |

I don't think Cardi will endure for years and years simply because she doesn't seem interested in that. She's very private and seems to resent people prying into her personal life. Fame seems like a drag for her. I get the impression she wants to make her money now then enjoy her life with her new baby. Maybe she'll change her mind but she doesn't strike me as someone looking to be in the public eye for decades. I agree. It helps explain/support why she's such a workhorse right now while the iron is hot - pregnant and all. well if u guys watched her interviews rather than assume ;) she said this exact thing in her apple music interview with ebro... she said just one bad thing can cause ppl not to eff with u anymore, so she is gonna make all the money she can while she has the chance to do so. |

I have to say, I have not seen much here mentioned about Bad Bunny and J.Balvin, who have also achieved their first Hot 100 #1. I see a lot of "Congrats Cardi" etc.... posts but they are a LARGE reason why this song has gone #1; I would argue this is just as much their #1 as it is Cardi's. They are 2 of the most popular, highest-streamed artists in the WORLD, consistently. They are a very large reason, I'd even dare say "the" reason, for why this song is doing so well internationally. Having them on the track, plus the "I Like It" classic sample, and Cardi's currently US popularity was a sure formula for a #1. of course j balvin and bad bunny contributed to the songs... but cardi had the biggest impact... her #1 prior was a solo song.... be careful reached #11 and was a solo song that got mixed reviews.. so they definitely helped boost the song but cardi is still the main driving force behind the song... bad bunny and j balvin are streaming forces WW... not in the US... currently Balvin's only song on spotify us chart is at #115 and bad bunny te bote is at #56 ... so lets not pretend they are huge streaming presences in the US |

Girls was really the only flop cardi was featured on the past year.. it still went top 25 in the UK ... and dinero is top 30 on pop and entered the billboard hot 100 so i would consider dinero a hit for jlo standards.

Off the top of my head that's the only year that happened. From the spring of 2002 to the spring of 2006 (4 years!) Kelly Clarkson, Eminem, Clay Aiken, Gwen Stefani, and Carrie Underwood were the only non-POC to reach number one. American Idol was the only major driver for white artists during those years. |

I knew it was just a phase. It almost always is. Even female artists are making waves again after a drought. |

okay you all got mad at me for cardi so lemme explain
I love Bodak Yellow and enjoyed Bartier Cardi, but Thru Your Phone being released destroyed any respect I had for her. The song is absolutely terrible. Her flow is awful, it's a huge sellout song, and some of the lyrics are very questionable and off-putting. I probably would really enjoy I Like It if I never heard Be Careful, especially since I love J Balvin. I know its weird to pretty much hate an artist because of one song, but I can't respect a woman who writes about putting bleach in someones food.
To me, Thru Your Phone is one of the worst songs of this entire century and possibly all time. I hate it that much.
Edit: I meant Thru Your Phone and I said Be Careful, which is still really awful and I cannot stand her flow on that, it genuinely makes me cringe.
