Tommy Roe is known for having number one pop hits during the 1960s like Sheila (1962) and Dizzy (1969). He charted eight times in country music between 1973-1987. He had a country contract with Mercury Records during the 1980s which saw him release singles instead of albums. His only top 40 country hit was released in November, 1986. It was Let's Be Fools Like That Again. It peaked at #38 in February, 1987. He charted just one more time after that.

John Fogerty was the lead singer for the group Creedence Clearwater Revival. They amassed pop hits during the 1960s and 1970s. As for Fogerty himself, he placed three singles on the country chart between 1973-1997. His only top 40 country hit came from his 1985 album called Centerfield. Lead single, The Old Man Down The Road peaked at #10 pop in 1984. The b-side, Big Train From Memphis was released to the country format in January, 1985. It peaked at #38 in March. Two more singles were released and they both made appearances on the pop chart.

Charlie Robison is better known for being married to Emily Robison from the Dixie Chicks. However, he had a brief fling in the country top 40 in 2001. He was signed to Columbia Records between 2000-2004. Before that contract, he had already charted three singles. His debut single for Columbia, I Want You Bad was released in March and peaked at #35 in July. Another single, Right Man For The Job did not chart. When his Columbia contract expired in 2004, he released his version of El Cerrito Place which did not chart. It did very well for Kenny Chesney, peaking at #10 in 2013.

Perfect Stranger were signed to Curb Records between 1994-2002. In fact, Curb Records rereleased their 1994 debut album, It's Up To You and retitled it You Have The Right To Remain Silent. Under Curb, they released the title track in March, 1995. It peaked at #4 in August. They released three more singles, with two of them charting: I Am A Stranger Here Myself (#52), 1996 was kicked off with the #56 peaking Remember The Ride, and Cut Me Off which did not chart. They charted three more singles between 1997-2000.

Dan Fogelberg amassed a ton of pop and adult contemporary hits during the first half of the 1980s. However, his career took a country turn in 1985. That happened with the High Country Snows album of that same year. Lead single, Go Down Easy peaked at #56 country, #85 pop, and #6 A.C.. The second and final single was the double sided Down The Road/Mountain Pass. That was released in August and peaked at #33 in October. It made an appearance in country only.

Nancy Sinatra is best known for her 1960s pop hits like These Boots Are Made For Walkin' (1966) and Somethin' Stupid with Frank Sinatra (1967). However, she did have a country side to her during the 1980s. She did so via a duet with Mel Tillis called Texas Cowboy Night. That was the lead single to their Mel And Nancy album of 1981. Released in June, it peaked at #23 in August. Another single charted in 1982 called Play Me Or Trade Me (#43).

Vern Gosdin collected his first top 40 country hit as part of a duo with his brother Rex Gosdin called The Gosdin Brothers. They scored their only top 40 country hit in 1967 called Hangin' On. It was released in September and peaked at #37 in December. Hangin' On would be Vern's first top 40 hit as a solo artist in 1977 when it peaked at #16. The b-side, Yesterday's Gone became his first top ten hit when it peaked at #9.

I'd like to thank everyone for having this thread reach 10,000 views. It took fourteen months to do so. I think it added another 100 since my last post. Thanks to all who have participated in this thread. Anyway, here is the latest installment. The Everly Brothers charted twelve top 40 country hits between 1957-1986. Phil Everly went in a country direction during the 1980s. He charted twice between 1980-1981. In 1982, he singed to the Capitol label. In January 1983, he released Who's Gonna Keep Me Warm. It peaked at #37 in April, becoming his only top 40 country hit. Dan Seals would record the tune for his San Antone album.

The War of 1812 lasted between 1812-1815. The British surrendered in December, 1814. However, because of communication, it did not reach America until early 1815. The Battle of New Orleans took place in January, 1815. The Americans prevailed there. During the 1930s, Jimmy Driftwood, a teacher wrote a song about it titled The Battle Of New Orleans to help his students remember key events of the battle. The most famous version of the song belongs to Johnny Horton, who topped both country and pop charts with it. Driftwood's version was released in May, 1959 and peaked at #24 in June. Horton was still topping the country chart with his version. Horton would enjoy the biggest hit of the year according to Billboard.

Two trucking songs dominated country music between late 1975-early 1976. They are Convoy by C.W. McCall (#1 country and #1 pop) and The White Knight by Cledus Maggard and the Citizen's Band. Maggard wrote the song under his real name, Jay Huguely. That was released in November, 1975 and claimed the top position in country in February, 1976. Like Convoy, it was a crossover hit when it peaked at #19 pop. It was the title track and lead single to his 1976 album. Another single was released called Kentucky Moonrunner, which peaked at #42. He charted two more times until 1978.

Tennessee Express charted seven times between 1981-1983. Their sole top 40 hit came in 1981 in the form of Big Like A River. That was released in July and peaked at #31 in October. I do not know if RCA released any albums on the group. A year and a half after Big Like A River peaked, they could be heard backing John Anderson on his smash, Swingin'. Vocally, Tennessee Express can be compared to Dave & Sugar, who also resided in the top 40 when Tennessee Express collected their only top 40 hit.

The Shoppe released four albums. However, when they were signed to the NSD label between 1980-1985, they just released singles. They signed to the MTM label in 1985.

I do not have much information on Nightstreets. Sometimes they were billed as Streets. They signed to the Epic label in 1979. They issued a single in January, 1980 called Love In The Meantime. It peaked at #32 in March. It became their only top 40 hit. I do not know if Epic released an album on them or not.

The only thing I know about Diane Pfeifer is that she was on Capitol Records from at least 1981-1982. She released a single in November, 1981 called Play Something We Could Love To. It was one that she wrote. It peaked at #35 in January, 1982. I do not know if Capitol released an album on her.

Pfeifer released "Free To Be Lonely Again" in 1980, but only reached No. 85. Debby Boone covered the song for her "Love Has No Reason" album and released her version a few months after Pfeifer as that album's second single climbing all the way to No. 14.

Debby Boone has had more than one hit though. She had a number 1 single in 1980 with “Are You On The Road To Lovin’ Me Again” which is also from the album you mentioned. Also that number 1 is a part of country music history right now I believe. On the chart week of April 19, 1980 5 female artists held the top 5 positions on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart which is now Country Airplay. To my knowledge this has not been accomplished since and may never be with country music being so male dominated these days.

To my knowledge this has not been accomplished since and may never be with country music being so male dominated these days. I covered that all top five female chart back in April, 2010. This is what I said: 8. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Let us hear it for country music's female artists! Female artists have ALWAYS played a major role in country music. Even the first number hit in country music history featured a female group (Pistol Packin' Mama by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters in 1944). Let us list a few more female firsts: 1. First female to top the charts-Margaret Whiting-Slipping Around with Jimmy Wakely in 1949 2. First solo female to top the charts-Kitty Wells-It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels in 1952 3. First A.C.M. Female Vocalist of the Year-Bonnie Owens in 1965 4. First C.M.A. Female Vocalist of the Year-Loretta Lynn in 1967 5. First female Entertainer of the Year-A.C.M.-Lynn in 1975 6. First female Entertainer of the Year-C.M.A.-Lynn in 1972 7. First female inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame-Patsy Cline in 1973 I find it ironic that Lynn's sister, Crystal Gayle headed an all female top five 30 years ago this week with It's Like We Never Said Goodbye. It was the first time females occupied the top five (with George Jones thrown in for good measure). The songs and artists were: 1. It's Like We Never Said Goodbye-Crystal Gayle 2. A Lesson In Leavin'-Dottie West 3. Are You On The Road To Lovin' Me Again-Debby Boone 4. Beneath Still Waters-Emmylou Harris 5. Two Story House-Tammy Wynette and George Jones Titles 1-4 ended up being #1 hits. Wynette and Jones had to settle for a #2 placing. Goodbye was Gayle's first #1 hit for Columbia Records after a successful five year stretch of hits for United Artists (1974-1979). She would remain on Columbia until 1982. She then had a six year run of hits on Warner Bros. between 1982-1988. West would continue having hits until 1984. Boone would have hits until 1981. Harris would continue until 1989. Wynette's last top 40 hit was in 1988. This is what the chart looked like back then: BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING APRIL 19, 1980: 1. IT'S LIKE WE NEVER SAID GOODBYE-CRYSTAL GAYLE-COLUMBIA 2. A LESSON IN LEAVIN'-DOTTIE WEST-UNITED ARTISTS 3. ARE YOU ON THE ROAD TO LOVIN' ME AGAIN-DEBBY BOONE-WARNER BROS. 4. BENEATH STILL WATERS-EMMYLOU HARRIS-WARNER BROS. 5. TWO STORY HOUSE-TAMMY WYNETTE AND GEORGE JONES-EPIC 6. Honky Tonk Blues-Charley Pride-RCA 7. Sugar Daddy-the Bellamy Bros.-Warner Bros. 8. Gone Too Far-Eddie Rabbitt-Elektra 9. Women I've Never had-Hank Williams, Jr.-Elektra 10. The Cowgirl And The Dandy-Brenda Lee-MCA While we're at it, let us award the following: 1. Greatest female solo artist: Your choice 2. Greatest female duo: The Judds 3. Greatest female trio: The Dixie Chicks 4. Greatest female quartet: The Forester Sisters 5. Greatest female quintet: Wild Rose

On the chart week of April 19, 1980 5 female artists held the top 5 positions on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart which is now Country Airplay. To my knowledge this has not been accomplished since and may never be with country music being so male dominated these days. Yes, Boone had seven - or eight - Top 40 country hits depending on how you count flip sides: * You Light Up My Life (No. 4) * Baby, I'm Yours (No. 33) which then charted as the B-side of "God Knows" (No. 22) * My Heart Has A Mind Of Its Own (No. 11) * Breakin' In A Brand New Broken Heart (No. 25) * Are You On The Road To Lovin' Me Again (No. 1) * Free To Be Lonely Again (No. 14) * Perfect Fool (No. 23) My intent was to add some information regarding Pfeifer...to which I can add more. Pfeifer wrote Boone's "Perfect Fool" as well.

Boxcar Willie was signed to the Main Street label between 1980-1985. His 1982 album, Last Train To Heaven produced his only top 40 hit called Bad News. It was the lead single and it was released in February. It peaked at #36 in May. Three more singles charted: We Made Memories with Penny DeHaven (#77), the title track (#80), and Keep On Rollin' Down The Line (#70).

Thanks to dawhite76 for listing Debby Boone's top 40 hits on the country chart. Let us concentrate on her father, Pat Boone. He had a ton of pop hits during the 1950s and 1960s. At one time, he was the second most popular artist in America behind Elvis Presley. He was a one hit wonder in country music. That happened in 1976 with Texas Woman, the lead single and title track to his 1976 album. Released in June, it peaked at #34 in August. Two more singles were released (don't have chart peaks for them): Oklahoma Sunshine and Lovelight Comes A Shining. Shortly after Pat scored his only top 40 country hit, Debby signed to the Warner Bros. label. She bowled over audiences the next year with You Light Up My Life (#4 country, #1 pop, and #1 adult contemporary). He also had 2 singles before this one in 1975, Indiana Girl (72) and I'd Do It With You (84), a duet with his wife Shirley. Looks like Lovelight Comes A Shining did not chart. One last appearance in 1980 peaking at 60 with Colorado Country Morning.

Debby and Pat charted simultaneously with different singles in 1980. One week after Debby debuted with "Take It Like A Woman," Pat debuted with "Colorado Country Morning." Debby outdid her father again - "Take" reached No. 44 while "Colorado" peaked at No. 60.
Besides the Boones and the Cashes (Johnny and Rosanne), were there any other times a father and daughter charted with different singles at the same time?

The only information I have on Jessica Boucher is that she used to be one half of the Merrill and Jessica duo. The Merrill being Merrill Osmond (yes, those Osmonds). In 1983, she recorded a song with Joe Stampley called Memory Lane. That was the title track to his 1983 album. However, the lead single was Double Shot Of My Baby's Love. That was a remake of the 1966 pop hit by the Swingin' Medallions (#17). In Stampley's hands, it peaked at #8 in early 1984. He followed that with another remake, Brown Eyed Girl. That peaked at #10 pop for Van Morrison in 1967. Stampley took his version to #29. Finally, the title track was released in April. That peaked at #39 in June.

I don't know if they charted simultaneously or not, but Pam Tillis made her chart debut in 1984 with the #71 peaking Goodbye Highway. That was the same year Mel Tillis collected his final top ten, New Patches (#10).

Yes, they did! When Pam debuted with "Goodbye Highway," Mel was already charting along with Glen Campbell on "Slow Nights."

I do not have much on Dave Kirby. He was signed to the Dimension label and scored his only top 40 hit, North Alabama. That was released in April, 1981 and peaked at #37 in July. I do not know if an album was released. Four years later, he married Leona Williams, who used to be married to Merle Haggard.

Thank you for the additional information on Dave Kirby. I should hire you as a fact checker. I don't know where you're getting the information, but I'm loving it!
