1 4 5 7 9 11 14 15 39 51 My 94 is where it is because I'd rather it not win this. I'm thinking you tanked my 14, and I actually totally approve of that (as long as none of my lowest 3 win instead...I don't think they will though)

Am I alone in thinking Heart and Soul would coast to the top 10? Figured it was universally loved. It was destined for the top 10 until I ranked it #1. Sorry. :(

20. Walk Like An Egyptian (9): One of the biggest songs of the year back home, a personal chart-topper, and a song I still find fun, catchy, original, happy :) Not my favorite Bangles song (I like EF and BWY more), but a bop and a classic 1980s. 19. Wanted Dead Or Alive (61): I really like the cowboy movie type of instrumentation but I'm not that big of a fan of the melody. I like I'll Be There For You better than this one in terms of BJ 80s ballads 18. Luka (7): Noooo. Booo. This was a 2-week personal chart-topper and a #1 hit back home. Actually, this was one of the top 5 songs of the year back home, and in my personal chart. Love the music, vibe, lyrics, vocals, everything. I was sort of surprised it was't that big of a hit in the US. And I'm sad that I lost yet another top 10. Geez!! I hope I could've added some more points to this 17. Big Time (47): It's a good, interesting, different pop song, with good vibe and musicality, that I should love... but I really don't love that much. I like it more than Sledgehammer but don't fully love it. I like Steam and Shock The Monkey more... 16. Alone (1): WTF??!! WTF??!!! WTF??!!! NO, REALLY, WTF??!!! How come this is NOT in the Top 10. This is kind of the bar for power ballads. Their voices couldn't sound better. The piano and guitars are A+ and the musical structure is epic. This one is really disappointing, Pulse, seriously. 15. La Isla Bonita (8): My favorite Madonna song this year. She sounds great, the Latin-inspired beat is great of course, and the production and music are A+. Another personal chart-topper from her and naturally a BIG hit back home that has remained a staple in radio stations back home. 14. Control (53): Finally!! I mean, it's good fun and all, but yeah I never really loved this song. It stalled in the 20s in my personal chart back in the day, and even though I've grown to like it more with time, it's still not top 50 material for me 13. Don't Dream It's Over (12): This was a BIG hit back home and a personal chart-topper. Great ballad, including the instrumentation, vocals, melody, production. Top notch. Good to see it this high :) 12. You Keep Me Hangin' On (6): LOVED this remake. It was a personal chart-topper and one of my favorite covers ever. I think she really transformed the song, with a dance pop rock combo that still sounds fresh today. My favorite KW song for sure. 11. Sign O' The Times (66): The music is cool, the lyrics are good, but that's it for me. It didn't make my personal chart back in the day, and even though I appreciate it more now, I still find it underwhelming. Sorry. I still think that if this weren't by Prince it had left earlier...

So I still have left: 2, 4, 10 (only 3 top 10s! I think I could've had one or two more had I participated...) 11, 17, 19 28, 33, 48, 49 VERY surprised at my 40s songs still here. Not deserving of top 10 at all, especially over so many good songs that have left already. Doc Indie Party Rock, thanks again for sharing some of your personal favorites. Always good to hear some new stuff and some stuff I hadn't heard. Out of the songs you've shared, those I knew of and made my personal chart were; - Boom, Boom, Boom: it made my top 20 as a guilty pleasure :) without knowing of its gayness - Hypnotize Me : Also made my top 20 as I really like its more high energy vibe. Songs I heard later but forgotten and now I've downloaded (thanks!): - Fascinated - Dreaming of You - Stay The Night (I hadn't heard this one in AGES!! and I remember liking it quite a bit) mamooshka, I hadn't heard You're the Voice before... I did like it! Downloaded too, as it's very 80s. Thanks! Brand New Lover made a brief appearance in my personal chart reaching the lower 20s. The Right Thing only made it to the upper 30s.

I'm honestly surprised that my #100 outlasted "Livin' on a Prayer", and I really don't like that one either β but at least I understand it was massively overplayed and people would latch onto its 'iconic' status. Everything about that song is so unbearably lame to me - first of all, the faux-country/Western instrumentation that tries to create a 'dark' mood just ends up so corny. Then, Jon Bon's voice. It is truly awful on this. He tries way too hard to come across as some sort of outlaw badass, oversinging every damn line, straining his voice so hard, and it's honestly hilarious in how bad it is. And then there's the lyrics. Dear God. They only compound every other issue this song has, mainly the macho posturing that gets exposed for how laughably fake it is. You're from New Jersey, you're not a cowboy. I break into fits of laughter every time I hear him grunt, "I'M A COWBOY", "I'M WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE", and worst of all, the most hilariously awful lyric in the song - "I'VE SEEN A MILLION FACES, AND I'VE ROCKED THEM ALL!" This song is way too try-hard and I never want to hear it ever again.

Now I'd like to share some songs that made the top 10 in my personal weekly chart, including some BIG hits that year that didn't make the Hot 100: - Boys Don't Cry (The Cure): After the success they achieved in 1986 with Close To Me and In Between Days, the 1986 Mix of this song originally recorded in 1979 was promoted back home in early 1987 and became of the biggest songs of that Summer --and it's arguably become their most song with most recurrent airplay back home. A personal chart-topper and inside my yearend top 20. - Why Can't I Be You (The Cure): The lead single of their Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me album flew up the charts back home and also reached the top of my personal chart for 2 weeks. It's such a high energy, pop/rock, feel-good song, with joyful dynamic vocals, great music (including drums, bass, guitars and trumpets!!). Interestingly, a shortened version of the Extended Mix was more popular than the radio edit back home. One of my top 10s of the year. - You're Not My Slave (Oingo Boingo): This is the type of high energy rock that I liked quite a bit back in the 1980s (like Right Between The Eyes, Run Runaway, Why Can't I Be You, etc.). This was a top 10 back home, and a personal chart-topper and another of my yearend top 20s that I still use especially for long drives with the windows down :) - That Ain't Love (REO Speedwagon): This was their last mid-size hit back home, and a personal top 5. Not as strong as their previous outputs, but strong enough to make a final splash in my chart. - The Final Countdown (Europe): A personal top 10 but not as successful back home. Of course, that intro soon became iconic and one of the most representatives of the 1980s. It should've been a much bigger hit as it's a great representation of stadium rock with good vocals and epic instrumentation! - Should I Stay Or Should I Go (The Clash): Just like in 1986 a TV spot for sneakers made radios play Cyndi Lauper's When You Were Mine, in 1987 a TV spot of a clothing store made radio stations finally play this song, which had not been played when it was released earlier in the decade. The song became HUGE. I think that the lyrics in gringo Spanish ( ) played some role in its popularity... but the song is pure punk rock bliss! It reached the top of my personal chart for a couple of weeks and was a yearend top 5 - Police and Thieves (The Clash): Given the success of SISOSIG, radio stations back home decided to follow it up with this 1977 tune, which ended up becoming another big hit of the year, and another personal chart-topper. Oh, yeaaahh! - Come As You Are (Peter Wolf): A top 10 back home and top 5 in my personal chart. - Wild, Wild Life (Talking Heads): Also released in 1986 but peaking in 1987, this was quite a fun, sing-along song that I really liked. It reached the top 3 back home and in my personal chart. - You Are The Girl (The Cars): This was quite a big hit back home, and another personal chart-topper. Mellow, melodically, nice Cars, with a memorable video :)

'Kiss Me' was a visionary milestone that was eventually eclipsed by its darker and more commercially successful follow-up, 'Disintegration'. Didn't realize Robert Smith was still recording until 2015.

Not Little Lies.... well at least made it to the Top 10.
And yes, where's U2? Especially, the one with the long name.

Yes! Bad is out. The good singles from this album are all in the 1988 list.

All the singles from Bad were really good. Yes, I agree. I just like the others more. No disrepect for Bad and IJCSLY. I ranked both within my top 40.

What a surprise! I thought it was going to win. It's a good song, but there are at least 10 songs that didn't make the top 10 better than I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

Sweet, thought this was going to win for sure. This song just does absolutely nothing for me, and its overplay certainly does not help.

Many thanks to all of those who kept "I Wanna Be Basic with Somebody" from the top five. You are valid!

Even though I hear IJDIYA a whole lot, the only thing I can stil remember about the song is the chorus and the synth line. Everything else is just forgetable to me and wouldn't be nearly as remembered if it weren't played all the time.

Interesting that there were just 30 points between #11 and #5. In some cases, it was just 1 or 2 points the difference.
