The Top 2So here we are at the Top 2 and I gotta say I'm somewhat surprised to see U2 here. I was
hoping to see U2 but I wasn't sure how Pulse felt about them.
I was also hoping to see MJ make the Top 2 (shocking!) but figured he wouldn't. Though I love "Bad" I knew it wasn't strong enough to be a contender (though I think he'll fare better in '83) but I digress.
There was a point in my tallying where U2 had the lead, as did Prince, but as the lists came in it became clear who the winner was going to be.
So here it is...

2#1Open Your HeartMadonnaTotal Points: 2180
Billboard Hot 100: 1
(1)Billboard Top 100 of 1987: 30
From: True BlueReleased in late November of 1986, this was No. 1 in the US by February of 1987 where it stayed for one week at the top of the
Billboard Hot 100. The song was originally titled "Follow Your Heart" and had been written with Cyndi Lauper in mind by songwriters Gardner Cole and Peter Rafelson, though she did not hear the song.
Eventually Madonna got her hands on it, re-worked the title and lyrics, and well, the rest is history.
By grabbing more No. 1 placements than any other song in the rankdown (5) and placing inside the Top 20 on 20 lists (also more than any other song) Madonna takes another 80's rankdown!
