WillΒ You Still Love Me? Chicago
Total Points: 567
Billboard Hot 100: 3(1)
Billboard Top 100 of 1987: 50
From: Chicago 18
Reaching its peak of No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week ending February 21st, this David Foster production was the second single from the album Chicago 18. Β
The song was their first Top 10Β hit following the departure of Peter Cetera and it featured new singer and bassist Jason Scheff on lead vocals.
Another Top 20 falls with this leaving the rankdown...
My dad loved this song growing up.

Lol wow, I wasn't expecting much from this but I didn't anticipate it doing this badly. I don't think it's that bad either. Or is it just that no actors dabbling in music in the 80's is taken seriously on Pulse? I dug June Pointer. I was fine with the blues (including the harmonica playing). It's just that Bruce was pitchy.

Fun fact: "At This Moment" is my birthday #1. Fine with this bottom ten overall, though "Somewhere Out There", "Always", and "At This Moment" are all alright songs that maybe deserved better than bottom ten. At least my bottom two are in the bottom ten. It takes a lot for me to rank a non-Chicago song #100, but by god, Glenn Medeiros found a way by not being able to sing. Meanwhile, HOLY CRAP, KENNY G ESCAPED THE BOTTOM TEN.

Atlantic Starr scored a big sappy wedding song with Always considering their first hit was about having a secret affair lol.
The reveals are all fair so far I think.

I'm surprised to see Chicago out before Kenny G, but all else makes sense in the bottom 10.

I wish Always and In This Moment would have done better. But my real question (and shock) is why is a certain sonic horror still out there?

#100. Ballerina Girl - Lionel Richie Not too many Lionel Richie fans. I wonder if this has anything to do with his daughter's wild antics with Paris Hilton? LOL!
#99. Respect Yourself - Bruce Willis Aren't we glad he decided to prefer his career in movies to his career in music. This was pretty bad.
#98. Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You - Glenn Medeiros This was beyond bad, but that doesn't mean that I didn't love his duet with Bobby Brown. Sorry but this one was awesome.
#97. Will You Still Love Me? - Chicago Chicago with out Peter Cetera just didn't work for me.
#96. Can't We Try - Dan Hill & Vonda Shepard At my age I only cared for the NRG driven songs. I didn't even recognize this song. You could say this was a first time listen.
#95. Meet Me Halfway - Kenny Loggins That's the thing about Billboard 1987. They were so resistant to charting ,Miami Latin Freestyle, that most of their top 100 of 1987 was these forgettable cheesy ballads. We all Kenny Loggins can do so much better than this.
#94. Always - Atlantic Starr "Secret LOvers" was the classic slow jam for them. They also sounded better in 1982-83. They were not all cheesy ballads.
#93. Carrie - Europe I was a bit more forgiving to this song, because Europe was a glam rock band, but #38 rank isn't doing it any favors. "the Final Countdown" and "Rock The Night" are my favorite Europe hits. "Rock The Night"
#92. Somewhere Out There - Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram Honestly. Another first time listen for me, and not a very memorable one either.
#91. At This Moment - Billy Vera & The Beaters And another first time listen that doesn't exit a moment too soon.
I didn't lose anything that would bring tears to my eyes tonight.

"Shake You Down" has actually grown on me a little bit ever since it was featured in the Hot 600.
I s'pose I'll always have a soft spot for Kool & the Gang though. :(
"The Next Time I Fall" otoh...tried to get into that one, but it kept slipping further and further down my list.

The Britney version > the Jets version.
Also, I don't know what's so bad about half of the songs that got tossed here. The ballads aren't bad so what are ya'll smoking? :sip2:

The ballads aren't bad so what are ya'll smoking? :sip2: It's the complete opposite with me. I actually much prefer The Jets version. It just resonates on me more, but I agree that some of these ballads shouldn't be out so soon, especially Songbird and Shake You Down. Shake You Down is like an RnB classic.

I love me some Lionel Richie, but I wasn't familiar with that song before I did this rankdown. I prefer her his other songs like Penny Lover, Sail On, Still, etc.

Damn, was not expecting Smokey to be my first top half loss AND to go out this early.
Beyond that, we got rid of all of the bottom ten riff raff...except for one.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the ballad entries make up the entire lower half of this rankdown, with the exception of bigger, Pulse-friendly names attached. The 80's, in part, were a vast dumping ground for a lot of insipid daytime soap ballads and ballads-adjacent.
That said...
I'm not happy about seeing You Got it All & Love You Down out so soon. The Tongan Jets had a solid, 9 or 10 singles run and YGIA is the absolute cutest. LYD? Timeless, which can't be said for most of the R&B crossovers featured in this rankdown.

i had two top half songs go away, but honestly i overranked them...can't remember if i thought i needed to inflate my vote on these because i thought they'd be unfairly tanked by others or if i was just out of it that day...so long story short, i haven't lost anything i care about yet
