I think I just read that there was a last place vote for “Marina Del Rey” but that can’t be possible so I must be asleep and having a bad dream.

So here it is, folks! George's very first #1 hit, alongside perhaps his most iconic '80s hit! "Fool Hearted Memory", versus "Amarillo By Morning"! Which will be the winner?

"A Fire I Can't Put Out" is one of the greatest songs in existence! That fiddle, that melody, and those LYRICS! Everything about it is perfection. And then add nostalgia in the mix. Deserves more love on Pulse for sure!
"Marina Del Rey" is absolutely gorgeous too and it's one I probably underranked a little in George's singles RD, but it's definitely my least favorite of the singles from this album. No way it was ever gonna be higher than any of the other 3 lol.
I'll be shocked if "Amarillo By Morning" doesn't win this.

The same ol’ stool, The same ol’ fool Played by the rules but didn’t win. There’s an old love in his heart that he can’t lose. He’d try forgettin’, but he knows that it’s no use.
2. "Fool Hearted Memory"
Track #1 Runtime: 2:39 Songwriters: Byron Hill, Blake Mevis
Placement in the Singles Rankdown: #21

There you have it! As I am sure literally everybody expected, "Amarillo By Morning" makes short work of the rest of the album, finally claiming a position on the lofty list of Country Rankdown Winners! Prior to this it had only been in one rankdown (George's own singles rankdown), where it managed to finish at #2. "Amarillo" is without a doubt one of the most widely-known and praised country songs of the '80s, which is very interesting because it is not even within the top 50% of George's highest-peaking singles, chart-wise. I mean, it was no slouch; it peaked at #4. But the way it is remembered, you would think it was a multi-week #1 hit! And for good reason. The fiddle saws its way directly into your soul, while the melody infects your mind and refuses to let you go. It is one of those songs that stays with you and becomes a part of your life. "Fool Hearted Memory", however, gave "Amarillo" a hell of a fight! George's very first #1 hit actually started this rankdown as the primary #1 contender, and even after "Amarillo" took over, it remained a point or two behind for the longest time! Unfortunately for it, just about everybody who ranked "Amarillo" high put "Fool Hearted" a position or two behind it, meaning that every list pushed it further back by a point or two, which added up in the end. Thank you all for participating and following along! I know that old albums aren't everybody's cup of tea, but I think it is so cool seeing what y'all think of George's music on both ends of his career! (Speaking of... Love is Everything questions coming up shortly!!!!)

1) What will be #1? Probably "I Got a Car"
2) What will be #13? "I Though I Heard My Heart Sing" or "I Believe"
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? Guessing: "I Got a Car," "When Love Comes Around Again," "That's What Breaking Hearts Do," "Give It All We Got Tonight," and "When the Credits Roll."
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing? Most: "I Just Can't Go on Dying Like This // Least: "I Got a Car"
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (Give It All We Got Tonight, I Believe, I Got A Car) "I Got a Car" and I think it'll win.
6) Which of the singles will place lowest? Where will it place? "I Believe" will be in the bottom 3, right where it belongs.
7) Where will the #1 single finish? (Give It All We Got Tonight) Top 5, but don't think it'll win.
8) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place? Hoping for "When Love Comes Around Again" but I think it'll be "That's What Breaking Hearts Do" instead. Both are good though. Should make the Top 5, I'd imagine.
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? I'm gonna be upset if "I Believe" isn't out bright and early. One of the worst songs he's ever released as a single.

1) What will be #1? I think “I Got a Car” will pull off the win
2) What will be #13? Maybe either “I Thought I Heard My Heart Sing” or “Blue Melodies”
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? “I Got a Car”, “Give It All We Got Tonight”, “That’s What Breaking Hearts Do”, “When the Credits Roll”, and “When Love Comes Around Again”
4) What song will be most polarizing? “I Just Can’t Go On Dying Like This” Least polarizing? “I Got a Car”
5) Which of the singles will place highest and here will it place? “I Got a Car” at #1
6) Which of the singles will place lowest and where will it place? “I Believe” in bottom 4 even though it really isn’t deserving of such a placement
7) Where will the #1 single finish? “Give It All We Got Tonight” will finish in the top 3
8) What will be the highest-placing album track and where will it place? Either “That’s What Breaking Hearts Do” or “When the Credits Roll” and top 5
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? This isn’t my favorite album of George’s by any means but there are some great album tracks including “Sittin’ On the Fence” and “You Don’t Know What You’re Missing” that I still like to revisit now and again. I was always hoping George would incorporate “When the Credits Roll” into the Cowboy Rides Away Tour since it seemed like a good song to use towards the end of the show.

1) What will be #1? Either "I Got a Car" or some album track like the title track or "When Love Comes Around Again".
2) What will be #13? Probably "Blue Memories"?
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? "I Got a Car", "Give It All We Got Tonight", "When Love Comes Around Again", the title track, and "When the Credits Roll".
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing? Most: "I Thought I Heard My Heart Sing". Least: "When Love Comes Around Again".
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (Give It All We Got Tonight, I Believe, I Got A Car) "I Got a Car" will probably win, if not land in the top two.
6) Which of the singles will place lowest? Where will it place? "I Believe" in the bottom five.
7) Where will the #1 single finish? (Give It All We Got Tonight) Should end up in the top three (top five worst case scenario)
8) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place? Rooting for "When Love Comes Around Again" to end up somewhere in the top three, or potentially winning this whole thing.
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? This album (like most others) required multiple run-throughs for me to get used to each track. Unpopular opinion: I actually don't mind a particular song y'all are hatin' on right now!

Alright, I will start this tomorrow! But before I do, I just want to throw out a snippet of information. The last place song had literally zero competition... It was last place for the entire submission process, and never even close to escaping!
It's very interesting that now 3 of the 4 George albums we have ranked have had runaway last-place contenders. Both "I Get Along With You" and "It Takes All Kinds" were last place for the entire submission process on Strait Country and Cold Beer Conversation respectively, and now on this album we have the same thing happen once again! Such a phenomenon is pretty rare in album rankdowns; I can only think of a couple other instances where this has happened. Now I am really intrigued to see if this is going to be a trend with George's albums, or if it is just a coincidence with the first few.
Meanwhile Strait From The Heart was so close that it was impossible to tell which song would finish there until the very last submission... No song had enough low votes to run away with last place. So that's pretty exciting. I also wouldn't mind if that became the norm!

Alright, I decided to start it anyway. One reveal for tonight, then you all will at least know what came in last place.
Love is everything. It’s a rose on a stone, It’s the words in the song that the choir sings. It’s the tears of goodbye, And the place that you fly to to get your wings. Yeah, love’s The King.

I can't believe nobody predicted this song to be last place! Y'all made it very clear throughout the submission process that this was almost unanimously one of the least-favorite songs on the album! 11/15 participants put this in their bottom 3, including 3 last place votes from myself, tim, and gonecountry. However, as most George Strait songs do, this one still managed to gain quite a bit of positive passion as well. Cody Wants Out... loses a #4 right at the start of the rankdown, while LBTrocks and g8erboi both have a near-top-5 loss. This song isn't bad by any means, but regrettably I have always found it to be pretty boring. This album is just SO perfect, with several of the album tracks being incredibly catchy and among the best of his career, so this song has always stuck out like a sore thumb to me... It's not often you see a title track be the least-liked song on an album, but in this case, we collectively decided it was the only option.

@ the ass whooping this one got. I only ranked it at #11 so I can't be upset about this being last place at all, but I felt like 75% sure it would be "I Thought I Heard My Heart Sing," lol.

I always get a kick out of seeing Pulse's two biggest Strait fans be in such agreement lol. For some reason I thought this song might get a little more support but alas it got walloped. This song just kind of prods along and I've always found myself skipping this track on an otherwise solid album.

Seeing all those fellow last-place ranks for this dreck warms my heart. I gotta admire what he was going for here with this song... but, man, that execution totally missed the mark. The way he stretches the title of the song into like 12 syllables is one of the worst melodic decisions in a song I've heard. Glad this one didn't overstay.

In a fashion that is unlike most album rankdowns, we say goodbye to a single in the bottom 2! Typically even the singles that are less-liked tend to outperform album tracks, probably because of familiarity, but with this album that was not the case. I personally think this song is over-hated, but I can also understand why people don't like it.
I do think that the song is a bit too awkward unless you know the context, about the song being written in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. All the references to "twenty-six angels" just feels so odd and forced, and wouldn't make any sense if you didn't know the context. It feels like too much of a gamble to just assume people will know what the song is about, especially considering it was such a flop. If it had been one of his #1s, more people might have heard the story, but since it was such a flop, only his closest fans even know the song enough to care what it is about.
At this point in his career, this was definitely the WRONG move to release as a single, and that is just made more apparent now that we have a rankdown proving that literally 11 songs on this album are overall better-liked than this one...

I don't have "I Believe" but it was always the weakest from this album and sooo bad of a choice as a single.
ITIHMHS is overhated here. I thought it sounded like a classic George song and almost felt nostalgic.

"I Thought I Heard My Heart Sing" becomes the last song to miss the top 10 on this album. It was a bottom 3 contender for the majority of the submission process. I can see why this one wouldn't get as much love as most of the other album tracks on this album, but I still love it It's catchy, but there are definitely tracks on this wonderful album that surpass it. Out of all the album tracks, I'm okay seeing this one get shafted.
