Sorry! I didn't realize how much everyone would turn out liking this, but this is one of my least favourite songs of George's. For everyone else's sake, I'm glad one of your faves made it this far though! But are you OKAY tho? Like, do you have a functioning heart and all? I could've asked you this question a thousand different times by now, so I'm not sure you're the appropriate person to be asking him :kii:

"Today My World Slipped Away" is one I have always considered to be among George's most underrated hits, despite the fact that it is among his plethora of #1s. It was the smallest hit of the album, only peaking at #3 on Billboard while the other three were all Billboard #1s, but at least it got to #1 on Mediabase!
This one just has such an unusual vibe to it that I cannot get enough of. It is melancholy but with a killer melody! Actually, it has a very similar dark vibe to "The Nerve", so it should be no surprise to see that I love both. Both songs are perfect for driving around at night.
And those lyrics! "We made it final today. I gave you all I had; you made your getaway." has got to be one of the best-written opening lines of his catalog. The song pulls you into the melancholy turmoil of the narrator's life with every nuance in the melody and lyrics. And once again, we have a powerful chorus that proves George is a more capable vocalist than most people give him credit for being.
Idk, I guess songs very rarely tackle a messy divorce from the male perspective, and I really appreciate George's contribution to the subject matter. It is nuanced and sad, but also just ambiguous enough to be relatable to things like death as well. I consider this to be the perfect "loss" song, lol.

He and I have often joked about who is the biggest fan (I am of course), but song by song he has been able to take us all on a journey of his own with his eloquent words. So before we get to the grand finale of the album series as a whole, thank you so much!

For everyone else's sake, I'm glad one of your faves made it this far though! I mean, the singles always do well in these things, so you probably shouldn't be surprised it did well! But honestly, it had no shot at the top 2 with or without your rank. It would have finished at #3 either way! So you don't have to feel toooo bad ;)

lol I'm still not done talking about "Today My World Slipped Away" apparently. Aside from being a killer song musically, this song lyrically guts me as well. Like I said, I don't specifically relate to the song's topic... but the lyrics in the chorus, could actually be applied to so many situations. Like losing a loved one. And sadly I've lost many, It really does feel like your world has crumbled around you... and a lot of these lyrics could be applied to how such a loss affects you and makes you feel. It can literally feel like your whole entire life has slipped away in an instant. You know you have to go on but it's going to be so hard, and you question if it's worth it... so yeah, this song hits on so many levels for me. Just an all-around masterpiece of a song IMO.

I thought it would easily be the first single out, though. Maybe somewhere in the 5-6 range.

This has been a real fun experience, getting to share my love for George with everyone here, and hopefully I helped touch on reasons that other people love him as well! These album series are wonderful learning experiences imo, so I am truly thankful for everyone who has participated or followed along with the majority of these rankdowns. That is quite an undertaking, and I just hope that everyone has learned a lot, and gained even a fraction of my appreciation for these songs

I think the right song won, but the top two are two of my favourites of his career, so I would have been happy either way. Thanks for hosting, bboat11!

These two songs are flawless, iconic, timeless, classics! "One Night At A Time" has always been one of my favorites... I would listen to this non-stop on repeat for hours as a kid. The melody is just immaculate, seriously one of the most gorgeous songs I've ever heard. "Carrying Your Love With Me" is one of the greatest country songs in existence. The melody and instrumentation are absolutely killer, country music perfection! Adore everything about this. The top 2 were fantastic!!! 3 just felt 'wrong' for this song when I ranked the album, but it is what it is lol. Not everything that deserved to be @ 1 could be put @ one on my list lol. Thanks for hosting this bboat11 and hosting the entire series... you totally slayed it! I adored it. King George ftw!

Surprise surprise. I think we all knew how this one was going to end. "Carrying Your Love With Me" and "One Night At A Time" are both among his most iconic hits. ONAAT as the lead single was a huge smash hit for George, earning him both his highest debut at the time and then flying up the charts and staying at #1 for 5 weeks. "Carrying Your Love With Me" has, however, come to eclipse it as time has gone by in terms of fan support. It was also a huge hit, and has had some of the best commercial legs of George's entire career. Part of that is undoubtedly due to the fact that this is one of the very few songs of his entire career to get a real music video!
I would have liked to see "Today My World Slipped Away" slip into the top 2 here, as it did finish nearly 10 positions higher than "One Night At A Time" in the singles rankdown, but I am not at all surprised by this outcome. This is a super deserving top 2! "Carrying Your Love With Me" has of course won a rankdown before, as it came on top in the 1997 year-end rankdown, but "One Night At A Time" will get to be in the Revenge series for the first time!

Deserving winner. One of the most iconic songs of the 90's and for good reason. That steel guitar is just perfection.

Part of that is undoubtedly due to the fact that this is one of the very few songs of his entire career to get a real music video! Of which his wife Norma makes a cameo apparence! Not sure if y'all knew this but that's her on the motorcycle (which is George's!) as he watches her pass by on the highway with director Dean Cain.

I'm trying to find words for how much I ADORE "Today My World Slipped Away" yet I'm coming up blank. It's just... breathtaking. And heartbreaking. The lyrics... wow. That melody in the chorus, KILLS me. It sends chills up my spine. Just a beautiful, haunting, hard-hitting song... I can't BELIEVE this got 2 last place ranks. Like.... what? Can y'all explain yourselves? lol. This 100%. I almost put this as my #1 but couldn't put it ahead of the title track

I always miss these damn things. "The Nerve" was easily the best this album had to offer imo. Everything bboat11 said because it's too early in the morning for me to go on and on about it lmao Tell me how my #2 rank sent the #3 song back to #5 at the last second?! The grand finale was predictable but very much correct. It was my #4 vs. #9 so I was definitely hoping for the obvious outcome lol Thanks bboat11 for hosting this album series! Hard to believe I caught the train a year ago when we were doing his latest album and one from the 80s, and now we've made it to the end!

Obvious winner is obvious, but "Carrying Your Love With Me" is the best song of his career. Perfection.

Before your list came in, "The Nerve" and "Today My World Slipped Away" were tied, so your #1 for "The Nerve" was enough to push "Today" back despite it being your #2 The fact that it got a #2 rank and fell to the lowest position it had occupied for the entire rankdown just about sent me! š And then your #6 for "Round About Way" was low enough to put it right in the same region as well, so by the time Cody sent his list it was juuuuust enough to push it behind both "The Nerve" and "Today". If you didn't notice, these three songs were each within a point of each other
