It occurs to me that streaming and airplay now have similar "absolute" numbers that measure very similar things -- the number of times a song is heard, and both deal with tens of millions for most hits. Airplay currently has a higher reach (the top few songs usually are over 100m, whereas the top streaming songs are usually around half that), but if streaming continues to grow they could become very similar.
At that point, it seems like the cleanest formula for the Hot 100 to use would be to just add up audience impressions + streams, and get rid of sales, to become a pure consumption chart. Then we wouldn't even have to talk about "points" (which are made up anyway) and could just say a song was "heard 80 million times" and include both metrics. That would give airplay 75%+ of the chart, since the #20 song on airplay has bigger numbers than the #1 song on streams. That'd receive complaints as too much of the chart would be industry-controlled instead of consumer-controlled. I could see that happening / I'd be here for it if they reached similar numbers someday though. The formula in the 90s used to be somewhat similar, 1m airplay = 1k sales. 100m audience = 100k sales. I think you skipped part of my post. I bolded part of it above. I specifically called out that it would only make sense once streaming and airplay are closer to equal. Also, regarding the 90s formula -- that was sort of coincidental that it aligned like that, and the chart was still point-based. I'm saying abolish points. Just add up the raw metrics. Then there's no complaining about formulas, it's just an objective measure of how many times a song was heard (with the caveats that audience impressions are a statistical estimate, and that streams assume 1 listener).

So practically no difference. Hopefully enough of a difference to result in a Lucid Dreams for Boo'd Up swap in the top 5 next week after this week's Scorpion album bomb if simm's prediction proves true.

Just realized all the new Drake songs are the first ones new to the top 10 in a month.

Also I watched "Love, Simon" today and a character in it says that Drake is passé and it just made me think "I wish".

At Least Cardi got her #1 before Drake Destroyed the charts and Drake has his 6 #1 with IMF that'll be on top for like 10 weeks.

I’m pretty sure at the end of IMF Drake samples, Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” and Justin Bieber’s “Let Me Love You”. This song is such a classic, oh my god is it Drake’s year.

So practically no difference. It doesn't look like much of a difference, but if you take all the Drake songs out of last week's chart it looks like it had a noticeable effect. Especially on country songs and songs like The Middle, Delicate and No Tears Left To Cry.

I like the new rule of weighting streaming. Country songs have been done dirty in the last years.

I'm not saying it'll reach 5 million daily streams by the end of the week but its not out of the question at this point.
But yeah this is getting a lot bigger than it seems most people could've predicted lol. With Gods Plan, Nice For What and In My Feelings, if it stays huge for long enough, Drake could be number for literally half of 2018.
When the IMF MV drops, it'll probably be in the territory when a new drop from Adele could be the only thing to take it down.
We love a legend.

In My Feelings is actually becoming a worldwide hit. These numbers are actually crazy especially after almost 2 weeks of release. Also i feel Don’t Matter To Me will probably pull a “The Hills” and go to #1 eventually

I don't like the change. airplay should be lowered and sales should stay same. Why? Sales are so dead right now that the number one is selling literally six times less than it did in its prime and have hardly any effect on the Hot 100 as is. Airplay is still a major format where millions of people consume music. Like it or not, the order of how people consume music these days is: streaming, airplay, sales, with sales being so far behind the other two it's almost laughable. The Hot 100 should reflect that.

Jumpsuit will probably peak somewhere between #6-#12 on the Hot 100, not saying it will be this week either. New rules with Billboard, will probably be in this song's favor for another top 10 for 21 pilots.

Maybe we should hold off on predictions about where it will be until we see streaming and airplay numbers. It's only been out for a few hours.
