I still want her to drop an EP with the rest of her covers from this year like Maneater and Boys Don't Cry lol
She nailed the both of those so hard

Whenever I hear the moans or whatever in Bad Karma, my mind immediately goes to that song "Uh Huh" by Julia Michaels. Also, besides the sound effects and BGVs, what exactly does Joan Jett do in this song?

Also, besides the sound effects and BGVs, what exactly does Joan Jett do in this song? I thought I heard Joan singing a few lines and then Miley joining for harmony. Their voices are both deep so it's hard to distinguish.

Joan is definitely singing most of the second verse and also is singing lines of the bridge and then harmonizing on other lines where Miley is in lead

Yeah, it took me a while to figure out but they sound very, very similar. Never actually noticed that before until now, but on the record it’s really obvious. I almost didn’t realize it had a feature until I looked at the title my first listen through, but now that I know I can hear it.
Also I should probably rescind my Johnny Cash comparison, at least wholly. The chorus (highlight of the song for me, easily) sounds like Cash but not much else.

I decided to check out Plastic Hearts since I have been digging Miley this era. Her cover of "Zombie" still gives me life. So far my top favorites are "Gimme What I Want", "Never Be Me", "Prisoner", and of course "Midnight Sky". 2020 continues to give us the bops.

This album is SUPERIOR. What a killer set of songs. She excelled here and I’m into every single track on this record. I’m massively impressed.

EASILY her best and most cohesive record. I love the textures she's presenting vocally, but it cannot be healthy to sing like that over and over, especially on tour. Not that anyone will be touring in the next year or so, but it jumped out to me immediately.
This might be my favorite record of 2020. Nostalgic, catchy, full of attitude. She did the damn thing.

This album is so freaking good!!!
I’m currently obsessed with Plastic Hearts (song). This needs to be the third single!! Then close out the era with Angels Like You.

Miley issues a statement after finding out at the same time as the rest of us that nobody--LITERALLY nobody--has a single copy of Plastic Hearts in their inventory, never did, and won't for two weeks at the earliest.

Amazon claims my copy will be delivered by Saturday so we’ll see. How not a single person on her team at a major label didn’t know that though baffles me; retailers made that shift a good 4 years ago. I vividly remember Starboy being the first major release affected by it.

I think labels should plan release dates carefully where all the formats of a new album (streaming/digital download, CD, vinyl) are readily available on the same day to purchase. I wonder if she released on 12/11 or 12/18 this could have been avoided.

I got the CD over the weekend. If you have a local record store, try them. Box stores are shit when it comes to new music.

I love this album, but “Angels Like You” in particular is the stand out for me. What a gorgeous melody and Miley really delivered on the vocals and raw emotions. I hope they make this a single. At this point I’m not caring about the commercial success of this album. Miley is giving us the goods and if the public doesn’t pay too much attention, then it’s their loss.

Miley issues a statement after finding out at the same time as the rest of us that nobody--LITERALLY nobody--has a single copy of Plastic Hearts in their inventory, never did, and won't for two weeks at the earliest. This is literally factually inaccurate, as several Targets in Austin (including one less than 2 miles from my apartment) had this. Granted, I had to ask someone to get it from the back room, but it was there. It's ironic though, especially given the epic struggles I have had with Target trying to get my hands on CDs, even their "exclusives," since streaming has taken over. As for the packaging, well...it's basically just scraps of Hannah Montana memorabilia put into collage form over 8 packages with a Thank You section we have already all read and album credits, but no lyrics. Y'all actually aren't missing much. Plus, the CD doesn't even have the Edge of Midnight, Zombie, or Heart of Glass, which are all amazing.

Wow, Younger Now definitely killed all her momentum, and RCA being absolutely bad now in everything definitely can't help it. and the fact that RCA UK doing so much better now

Fucking finally I'm able to listen to this and I'm only on "Night Crawling" and this definitely rivals Future Nostalgia for album of the year for me. Miley went the fuck off! This may even rival Bangerz as my favorite album from her.

I finally got to giving this a good listen today after playing the CD in my bf's car a few times over the weekend. First impression is that it feels more authentic than Bangerz. Full disclosure, I love Bangerz. More full disclosure: I didn't care much for Miley's cover of Heart of Glass and Midnight Sky didn't sink in for me the way Mother's Daughter did (rip that gem). Yet, these songs just seem to land better. They're all distinctive. After a few listens, I could see this doing to me what Bangerz did when it came out.

Hate Me gives me major Hannah Montana vibes and in the absolute best way possible Alot of the album does, actually. My issue with Miley in general is that I have no idea at all if this is authentic or not. Bangerz was the real Miley. Then Younger Now was the real Miley. Now this is the real Miley. 6 months from now she'll say that she hates this album and start working on a polka album that's finally the real her. It's not a question of her changing, it's that it feels like she picks a character to play for each era, which is fine, but she also wants that to be "real" her for a set period of time and then sheds it.

I understand where you’re coming from, but I don’t think people are necessarily that static, especially when it comes to the arts. Someone can adopt an identity for two reasons: it sells, or it feels right. Over the past ten years, Miley had been through... a lot. I think, in that sense, all three albums were “her,” just as different stages in her life. From personal experience, my own artwork, how I approach it, and what it means to me has evolved dramatically over the past 10 years, although I work with visual mediums instead of audible ones. She said in an interview recently that every day she wakes up a new person, that whoever she was yesterday is gone. I think that’s true, to an extent, for most people, and explains why all these albums could be so different but still be her as she was at the time.

I wish artists didn’t always stick with one genre or style for their entire careers - but I suppose whenever they do shift, even just a little, there’s always criticism over it. I can’t think of a single example of an artist exploring a different genre and not gotten flack over it.
With that said, I’ve always found it annoying how an artist would dismiss their prior work by saying “that wasn’t who I was.” Christina did that and it sounds so cheap.
