I could see Only Love smashing on AC/HAC. On Pop, it would be a 50/50 toss up. Not The End Of The World would be the better choice for Pop. Granted, I’m ok with either one as long as we get some standard promotion: live performance (check), music video ( ), radio play ( )

Performing a Prism-esque album filler at the AMA? Is she actively trying to troll us or what. I'm giving up on this era now. Cry About It Later deserved better.

Not The End Of The World is the clear choice to me on a single.
She could do such a cool visual video, even during covid (make it post apocalyptic with just her finding comfort and strength in herself after tragedy or something).
Baffled they haven’t really tried to push ANYTHING.

I mean, "Only Love" is one of the standouts on Smile for me. No, it isn't the best single choice (not that I think a single performance dictates single selection), but nothing on the album is going to be a hit at this point (yes even "NTEOTW" or "CAIL"), so, why not "Only Love"? It's probably a sentimental thing for Katy and if it gives exposure to the album and helps sales I am all for it.

some days I think she's actively trying to get dragged I think the “only love” choice comes from this viewpoint. I can definitely see her using some red/blue heart visual and (IMO, deservedly) swiftly getting bashed right after. It’s corny, out of touch and hella privileged. But that’s Katy Perry.. I can feel the cringe already

Now her tweet about forgiving and loving people who are/support racist homophobes makes more sense to me-early promo. Not sure if most of us are in the kumbaya lets forgive and come together mood right now though, especially with the doubling down going on. Maybe next year would be better timing.

CAIL is still the best song after HIH.

Sounds like the Prism era where they could never agree on what to push as a single.

Is this album considered a flop? Personally, I consider it to be an underperformance more than an outright flop. The singles did reasonably well (only counting NRO and Daisies) and the album debuted within the top five (and did decently well internationally). I doubt anybody was expecting Katy to have two top forty singles this album considering Witness only had one. So, while I could understand why somebody would consider the album a flop, I definitely don’t think it did poorly enough to justify that label.

Is this album considered a flop? Witness was a way bigger Loss for her tbh. This time it's like they didn't even care.

Yeah I wouldn't consider Smile era a flop or even an underperformance because Katy Perry is no longer an A or B lister. Longevity of "Daisies" impressed me, even. I had predicted the album would open with less than 60k (it's somewhere in this thread) and not vie for the top. Labelling something a "flop" is an expectations game, and a lot of people didn't have high hopes for Smile to begin with, that is, if they knew it was going to be released at all.

I have a feeling this rumored “Smile: Side B” is going to be an EP with dance remixes, acoustic versions, and remixes featuring other artists; all songs from Smile.

Great vocals on Katy during that performance. I wouldn’t mind if they push Only Love on radio.

That was a lovely performance. A perfect song for the times we’re in and the holiday season.
I wonder if she and Darius recorded a studio version for their duet?
