I'm also wondering, because I haven't really looked around yet: has there been much coverage/discussion of this on Twitter/the Internet at large, or is it more of a Pulse thing?

Considering Maroon 5 is a non-band at this point, it makes sense.

I thought it was an okay show. It wasn't offensively bad or anything, except for when he took his shirt off.

Wonder why NFL just doesn't go with a gigantic country star like Kenny Chesney or fantastic older rock performer like Bon Jovi or Aerosmith.. Everyone would've jammed to It's My Life (200M listens on Spotify) and Jon Bon Jovi would've kept his shirt on.
I mean they are safe and harmless acts but so was M5.

The football fans are already watching and entertained by the game. The halftime show is meant to reach audiences outside of that casual pool who wouldn’t have interest in the game. Pop stars have a lot of fans who aren’t Into football. The country music demographic is more in line with the ones already watching football

That could be it or it could be that country stars rarely have audience outside America whilst Super Bowl is very popular event globally too.

Yeah. Country isn't considered international enough.
They went for the old rock acts after the Janet thing and drew mostly very loud snoring from most audiences (aside from Prince and maaaaybe Springsteen?) until the BEP brought back pop to the show.
This year was always gonna be a PR mess, but it could have been an entertaining mess at least.

The game did Maroon 5 no favors by being boring as hell in the first half. People really needed the halftime show to entertain them during that snoozefest, but it was every bit as dull as the game itself.
Until the NFL halts their racist antics, I expect boring milktoast halftime shows for the forseeable future.

I'm just pretty mad that Bon Jovi haven't got the chance yet (or maybe they have said no, who knows). Aerosmith have performed.
Guns N' Roses would be brilliant too, also Santana, Queen + Adam Lambert (he's gay so there's the "controversy" for you LOL) and Metallica... There are several good choices if they want to play it safe.
Also, half of these will pass away in next ten years so NFL should grab them! (kidding)

Bon Jovi is probably the most pop friendly choice out of those. I think they were a guest performer once already?
Taylor would probably kill it too. Her production design is always killer (see also: The reputation tour).

Without getting into male/female nipples specialization standards, I do find it really stupid that everyone is playing dumb about why male nipples are acceptable while female nipples are not. Fair or not (this is where the discussion should begin and end), it’s always been socially acceptable for men. I don’t think it’s even remotely fair to crucify Adam for this.
The only real controversy here is that “Sweet Victory” was in face not performed and for that they can seethe in obscurity forever.

Anyway they can’t afford Taylor but I’d love if she did it out of charity anyway.

When you talk about people crucifying Adam, where do you mean? I also don't think people are playing dumb about it; we know that in society there is a difference. People are talking about it facetiously as we know there is no sound reason for there to be a difference.

Agreed, but I do find it a bewildering choice because who couldn't have seen this exact reaction coming?

Alright, I'm watching the halftime show.
Surprised that they included more songs from the Jane album than I was expecting. Not surprised that Adam Levine is pitchy with his voice (check out Maroon 5's Feelings for a good example).
Travis Scott added some energy, but um what was he doing in that one chorus? Taking a breather?
Did we need a choir and a drum section for Girls Like You? Alright, the choir is more alive than Adam.
Alright the light section in She Will Be Loved was kinda nice.
Ooh, Big Boi! Is Andre 3000 far behind? Nope. I think that lasted under a minute.
The NFL just said ha! Atlanta, we'll won't give you a minute on your music.
Sugar...was a choice. But considering his falsetto deserted him before showtime, not a good one.
And Moves Like Jagger? I guess that's alright. Although, I'd would have prefer him to try to strut more like Mick.
Welp, that wasn't quite the cluster that I feared. I appreciated that we got more than 30 seconds to a song unlike last year.
But it was underwhelming.

This was not a good performance at all. Adam Levine sounded awful... the songs sounded abysmal; it was a disjointed lifeless mess. Travis Scott was the one redeeming quality...

Next year is Taylor’s to lose, imo. Until she breaks contractual involvement with Coca Cola (is she still tied with them? Haven’t seen an ad in a while, but IDK), she probably won’t be *able* to get it.

There hasn't been a country performer at halftimes since Super Bowl 37
Probably no country next year either
