Ariana Grande,The Chainsmokers and Selena Gomez were rumoured for this year's Halftime Show. Maroon 5 hasn't had a decent song in awhile. I'm assuming many other artists turned it down and they ended up with them, This is a joke right?!? At least Chainsmokers and Selena. I could see Ariana in the running easily. But the other two, wtf? Selena hasnβt even had hot 100 #1 has she? Chart wise, I think Maroon 5 has outperformed all of them this year. |

If Adam don't perform "This Love" and "Never Gonna Leave This Bed" with a bed on stage they're canceled. ^ NGLTB has to be one of my top 3 Maroon 5 songs. I know theyβre not gonna perform it now or ever cause itβs forgotten as hell but itβs a cute song. That NGLTB chorus is immaculate. *swoon* |

Maroon 5 is a good choice. Lots of hits, cross generational, decent live performers, male and female fans.
I want Rihanna next year though. It's way past time.

Hopefully, they do better than what JT did. It was like Spotify for non-subscribers where no more than 30 seconds of a song were heard.
I mean seriously, Maroon 5 isn't a horrible choice. But it's very vanilla.
I suspect Sugar, This Love, What Lovers Do, and Makes Me Wonder would be on the set list. Special guests would be Christina (maybe they do one of her songs) and SZA.

Wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being the most watched Superbowl performance ever. Becky moms and their husbands will be perched on the couch waiting to get their lives screeching to Sugar and Girls Like You (album version).

Yeaaaaah, I don't think M5 will come close to pulling the numbers to top KP. The straights that are already watching won't really care, and I can't really imagine they'll pull in the queers like Gaga or Katy.

They circulate every year about a plethora of artists who were considered/offered, and in the past several years, the only artist to actually come out and say "yeah, I was offered and turned it down" was Adele, and she was never even in the rumor mill of being considered for the year that happened. Remember, often times rumors are indeed just rumors, especially when it comes to something so lucrative as the halftime show. |

Like every-single-year, the ratings will depend 99.9% on which teams make it to the game, if it's a close game that keeps people on their seats, etc... and 0.1% on the actual act performing.
Overall viewership is way down this year. Major award shows have tanked accross the board, with not a single one at least staying stable. The Super Bowl itself was down this year. With the rise of streaming and other TV alternatives, it's possible that the Super Bowl has peaked in linear ratings... which probably means Katy's show will remain the highest rated.
Also love Ariana, Selena and even enjoy The Chainsmokers when they're not trying to be emo... but LOL. Even the three combined don't deserve to headline this show yet.

I'm willing to bet Jay Z was asked to be a GUEST to Timberlake. No way was he asked to headline. NFL wanted Timberlake but I think they knew they needed someone black to offset the criticism. Jay did not turn down "headlining" the Superbowl. But rapping that does sound cool though.

Which is why I don't get why fans use ratings as their receipts in stan wars. How about looking at which halftime increased viewers the most compared to the actual game. That will tell you which show was really the most successful. |

Maroon 5 is definitely mediocre but they do have a lot of hits and are popular. It's not a horrible choice. And it isn't much worst than some of the other choices. Rihanna has some great hits but she isn't a good performer. Her best performance was that VMA one where she had to split it up to avoid being out of breath. Taylor Swift isn't a good performer either. Ariana Grande? Does anyone even know a song of hers? Pink or JLo would have been good.

At this point it's Rhianna or bust for me. I want her no fucks given, unbothered self to create the buzz that is required for me to change from drama shows and reality TV to watch the half time show.
I ain't knocking douche bag Adam and Maroon 5 they are successful and get radio play but they must don't have the WOW factor for me. I'll be snoozing in my dip bowl.

And no disrespect to Ariana Grande but she isn't a Superbowl performer she can barely command award shows much less not get lost in a big stadium and stage like the SB. She isn't the performer they typically pick.
Actually never mind I just remembered they picked Katy Perry and she surprised and turned in Missy Elliot and it turned out to be a good show even though she wasn't killing the awards shows circuit beforehand. So I guess it's possible
