What, do the board at the Superbowl just get together and say "Ok, listen you guys, we need to get together and choose the most mediocre and shittiest act we can to cap the last few years of horrible choices, who do we have that is as mundane as it gets?"
Eta: Lady GaGa was the one exception of the last four years.

Please let there be at least one Songs About Jane track on their setlist. Preferably Harder to Breathe. I love the song, but not sure about that...This Love will be there 100% tho.

No one cares about Maroon 5, it's basically Adam Levine with guests but whatever makes Donald Trump happy.

Honestly, yeah, probably. The NFL always tries to play it safe and get an act that won't offend large portions of their 100+ million viewership. Add to that, this year is even crazier with all of the hoopla over kneeling for the anthem, so they're going to for the most middle-of-the-road non-offensive act they can think of.

Great choice, I think Maroon 5 will do a great halftime show.

Great. Just what we need. More mediocre white men flouting their privilege. :sip2: It's bad enough that we have to have them shoved down our throats on radio and now we have to have this? Do not want.

I can see why they picked Maroon 5. They're a safe choice with a long list of (uneventful) hits.
But my god, this is going to be the most boring SB halftime show since BEP. All the performances I've seen of them are very basic.
Rihanna, P!nk, Carrie, Kelly, and J.Lo all could put on a show 100x more interesting than M5. Hell, I'd even be more excited for a Bieber or Flo Rida/Pitbull halftime show over Maroon 5.

I bet Carrie would have done it if she weren't pregnant. She and my Rihanna will do it within the next 3 years IMO. Depending on how Kelly's next year goes, she could be a good bet as well.

They have hits but general public are probably like... who? They don't have any remarkable album eras and have relied on radio very much. People might know their songs but don't know them.
The production team chose safety over viewers.

People know Adam Levine whether they know who Maroon 5 is or not.

They certainly have the hits but what else do they have? To command a stage like this, having hits isn't really enough and Maroon 5 aren't really known for anything else unless Adam Levine is going to stand on stage and judge other singers for 12 minutes. Even going back to their hits, I'd be curious to know which of their past hits beyond This Love and Moves Like Jagger are remembered to any great degree. I feel like it's more likely to be a case of collective audience recollection with each song: "oh yeah, I kind of remember this one."

Rihanna could possibly do it for 2020 if she has some hits in 2019, and stays relevent. Hope ariana grande or nicki minaj can do it later on

There is an entire subset of the American population who is aware of Adam Levine due to The Voice and that his original come up was due to music who couldn't care less about contemporary popular music and culture. A good amount of this group crosses over into Superbowl watchers.

All these neanderthals forgetting maroon 5 has sold 75 million albums.
What do you want for next year? A gay black identifying as a transgender latino singer backed up by Stevie Wonder and Lil Uzi Vert?
Fuck off and enjoy the show.

M5's demo fits perfectly with white soccer moms AND young 20 somethings. Almost all their songs since MLJ feat Christina have been mega successful. There's no Janet controversy lingering this year and their performances are rated G fluff. This was a complete no brainer.

Maroon 5 is literally the musical equivalent to mayonnaise. I get they're a super safe act but can we get someone at least a little more interesting? Even though I'm not a huge fan, I always thought Ed Sheeran could pull off a good halftime show. He's a pretty talented and creative performer. Marron 5 performance is gonna be dogshit, hear me now quote me later

What does have to do with Maroon 5 performing at the Superbowl? If you took a moment to read and understand all that, I wouldn't need to keep explaining it you. That's the problem with some in this generation. They want everything explained to them and summarized and they just don't take the time or make an effort to understand it on their own. No wonder things have gone to hell in a hand basket. Maroon 5 have skated by on making inoffensive (I could write a dissertation on how inappropriate and outrageous "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like A Motherfucker" was but I have a roast chicken in the oven that I need to baste so I just don't have a free moment), ordinary, mediocre music and somehow made a 15 year long career out of it. They have benefited from white privilege and they know it. In light of all the issues and everything else going on right now, them being chosen to do this performance is totally tone deaf and IMO, unacceptable.

The same thing happens year-after-year and the NFL just needs to quit and confirm instead of playing this game. Both Justin and Lady Gaga were rumored, they denied it, only to announce them in a proper setting.

Only salvageable part was roasted chicken that you need to baste mmmm. It's Maroon five who make dancy, sappy love songs and nobody takes them serious. You're wasting your fictional characters fleshing on a bunch of dudes nobody cares about

In light of all the issues and everything else going on right now, them being chosen to do this performance is totally tone deaf and IMO, unacceptable. You're trolling me right Your criticism of Maroon 5 can also be used for tons of minority acts, I love Bruno Mars but he's also been making inoffensive and ordinary music since his inception, hell the latter half of Drake's career has been banked on mediocre and inoffensive tracks, just with more swearing. Khalid, DJ Khaled, Flo Rida, Pitbull, The Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna (pre-Anti), John Legend, etc. Those acts aren't white thus they don't benefit from white privilege, but they have also skated by for years making inoffensive, ordinary, and mediocre music just like Maroon 5. What's your explanation for that Einstein? And I don't believe for a second that NFL chose Maroon 5 cuz their white, it's because they are really successful right now and the most family friendly act, NFL wouldn't choose Migos to headline the Super Bowl. That's why they chose Bruno and Beyonce years ago, because they were the most inoffensive choses. It has nothing to do with white privilege.
