Anyone who has seen my posts in any Maroon 5 singles thread in the past 3-4 years knows I'm not the biggest fan of their current music but let's not act like these guys are nobod- well okay, let's not act like Adam Levine is a nobody. The general public knows who Maroon 5 is even if all they know is 'the name of Adam Levine's band.'
M5 is a pretty solid touring act too - I've never seen them but I've seen their fans rave about them (and no, I'm not talking about that one obnoxious guy in the CHR section who makes you hate Maroon 5 more than Maroon 5 themselves does) so it's kind of silly to put them down as a band that can't put on a show. They won't be exciting to us, but they'll be fine for the general audience. I'm thinking it will be a cross between Coldplay and Katy Perry in terms of production.
The only surprise to me is that they didn't book it when it was on NBC (and given how Timberpond turned out I am sure NBC really regrets it).

But yeah, I don't think this announcement is surprising so much as anticlimactic, at least for the general Pulse population. We stan our pop divas and were hoping for a Kelly, Carrie, Pink, or Rihanna-led show. The most exciting prospect of Maroon 5 is definitely the possible guest(s) they could bring out. There are a lot of options due to all the collabs they've done over the years. I haven't really liked any of their post- Hands All Over output, but I'm down for some junior high reminiscence with "This Love" and/or "She Will Be Loved" too.

I was hoping (an expecting) a female act this year for the SB halftime show since it seems for the past many years they alternate between male and female acts. 2018 - Justin Timberlake 2017 - Lady Gaga 2016 - Coldplay 2015 - Katy Perry 2014 - Bruno Mars 2013 - Beyonce Plus, with so many social movements going around, I was not expecting someone who is a straight, white male (lbr here, it's the Adam Levine band) again. Maroon 5 works on a mainstream appeal approach, but in a boring, mediocre, uneventful type of way.

If you took a moment to read and understand all that, I wouldn't need to keep explaining it you. That's the problem with some in this generation. They want everything explained to them and summarized and they just don't take the time or make an effort to understand it on their own. No wonder things have gone to hell in a hand basket. Maroon 5 have skated by on making inoffensive (I could write a dissertation on how inappropriate and outrageous "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like A motherf**ker" was but I have a roast chicken in the oven that I need to baste so I just don't have a free moment), ordinary, mediocre music and somehow made a 15 year long career out of it. They have benefited from white privilege and they know it. In light of all the issues and everything else going on right now, them being chosen to do this performance is totally tone deaf and IMO, unacceptable. Slow day on the E! News 4chan? What's 4Chan? Is it a cable only channel? I don't watch enough TV to justify spending money on cable when I can spend it on nice clothes and shoes.

Only salvageable part was roasted chicken that you need to baste mmmm. It's Maroon five who make dancy, sappy love songs and nobody takes them serious. You're wasting your fictional characters fleshing on a bunch of dudes nobody cares about I want to see a Janelle Monae or a Chaka Khan Super Bowl halftime show instead of whatever random groups they are putting on next year.

Rihanna to be a guest artist on someone's Halftime Show? To perform a forgotten song? For like...40 seconds? I don't think so. It's not her style, she's way bigger than that.

Idk what they're gonna perform
-Girls Like You (certainly) -She Will Be Loved (feels to slow) -This Love (Possible) -Makes Me Wonder ( I feel like not enough people would know it) -Moves Like Jagger (definitely - I wonder if they will bring out Christina) -One More Night (too slow) -Payphone (I don't think so) -What Lovers Do (likely) -Sugar (very likely) -Maps (possible) -Animals (possible) -Daylight (don't think so) -Misery (I doubt it but really hope so)

What does have to do with Maroon 5 performing at the Superbowl? If you took a moment to read and understand all that, I wouldn't need to keep explaining it you. I was anticipating issues here, but not to this degree. I was thinking it would be JLo but knowing it’s on CBS, it likely wouldn’t happen. I then figured they’d go country again. Carrie was a safe bet, but there’s Luke Bryan as well. Pink and Rihanna would be good choices too.
I kinda wish they went with multiple artists at some point like when Britney, *NSYNC, Nelly and Aerosmith performed(I might be missing someone). They kinda did it when Coldplay was a headliner. Maybe that’s why Maroon 5 is booked. They can get Cardi and Christina for sure. The only way I see Kendrick at the SB is if they get Bey to do Freedom. I kid, to an extent.
JayZ mentioned in Apeshit how he said no to the Super Bowl halftime previously. I’ve never seen him in concert nor M5, but I’d rather have M5.

I wouldn't wanna watch a Jay Z halftime show anyways tbh. Jay's a legend but he's kind of boring and most of his hits aren't really arena worthy, Empire State Of Mind withstanding.

I'm always willing to let things play out and try not to pre-judge. I've never seen them live, but even if I had, the Super Bowl performance may be unlike anything they've ever done before. They certainly have enough well-known sing-along hits, at the very least.

Miss Aryan Goddess - Taylor Swift would've been the best pick for this, especially after this massive tour. The era hasn't been huge but a "Look What You Made Me Do" performance would secure Trump a second term of office.
All jokes aside, I like Maroon 5 more than the majority of Pulsers as I don't think they're as bad as people want them to be. I'm definitely going to enjoy this Superbowl more than JT's and the Coldplay one (although the latter had the Beyonce-Bruno dance-off aka the most iconic moment of 2016). They have the hits, they have the gp support and they've had huge success these past 3 years, without any break.

they're the perfect choice, all things considered. Seems like a no-brainer to me. And it's quite obvious they're going to have Cardi B as their guest. It just seems like a total bulls-eye.

Ariana Grande,The Chainsmokers and Selena Gomez were rumoured for this year's Halftime Show. Maroon 5 hasn't had a decent song in awhile. I'm assuming many other artists turned it down and they ended up with them,

^Maroon is a much clearer choice for this event than any of those three. And they've been more successful in the past year+ than any of them too.

^ NGLTB has to be one of my top 3 Maroon 5 songs. I know they’re not gonna perform it now or ever cause it’s forgotten as hell but it’s a cute song.

I disagree with Jay being a boring/non-arena performer. He isn't the type who could hold down an entire halftime show alone the way Prince or Gaga did, but that's more due to the fact that most of the audience would not know and be able to rap along to his verses. But he has has several hook-based hits that people could get into - Hard Knock Life, Big Pimpin', 99 Problems, Run This Town, I Just Wanna Love You, Encore, and ESOM as a closer make the perfect seven-song setlist. Do one verse and the hook for each, bring out Alicia, Pharrell, and Rihanna as special guests, maybe even throw in his Heartbreaker verse and surprise everyone with Mariah, and do a nice tribute to Chester for Numb/Encore. Make sure the production value is on point and he could have easily pulled this off.
That said, Jay probably got invited to Justin's show and turned it down because his ego couldn't take only being offered a guest spot after his wife headlined her own. He's mainly a poor fit as a headliner now b/c he doesn't match with this Trump vs. kneeling protesters era.
Rihanna would have been a more exciting while still 'safe' fit, but we can't even get that bish to drop one new song let alone put on a full halftime show. Plus I think she and CBS may still be on awkward terms b/c of them pulling her Thursday Night intro when the league's DV controversies were happening. She'll get it in a non-CBS year, or when Les Moonves' trife ass shadow has finally been exorcised from CBS's buildings.
As for M5 I think the ideal set list would be:
This Love Sugar Makes Me Wonder Payphone She Will Be Loved/Girls Like You medley with Cardi B [Cardi mini set] One More Night Moves Like Jagger with Christina
I'd really like it if they squeezed in Harder To Breathe, but I highly doubt it will make the cut.
