I have to imagine Black Lab's "Wash It Away" will be a new discovery for many of you, especially if you're into bands like Semisonic and Better Than Ezra. The older I get the more I seem to dig it, one of the best kept secrets of 1998. Time Ago is pretty solid as well.

I plan to rank Bush's Mouth - The Stingray Mix version of the song, as that's the version I recall hearing on the radio. The original version of the song would've been in my bottom 10.

Well, I'm typing in Georgia, size three font, and that can only mean one thing in a rankdown that I'm hosting (at least this early, anyway)...IT'S B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE TIME! The first three contestants ready to play are Butterflies & Hurricanes , rgreen0625 , and peacebone . (Both alexcuse and Beno will be featured in the next update...which, given the quickness of these last couple of submissions, will probably be coming sooner rather than later.) How did these three rankings impact the early stages of this (soon-to-be) big rankdown? Let's find out!
- Well, there's no easy way for me to start, given the knowledge that I have about the top two...WE HAVE A #1 TIE! The top two, meanwhile, are thirteen points clear of #3, which is sort of an insignificant gap at this stage, but I'm mentioning it, because why not? #3 is only two points ahead of #4, however. - A whopping eight songs have been in every top ten so far, including the entire top seven. One of the two previous top ten constants just fell out. - It's still early days, but a couple of songs are disappointing more than expected. I imagine this will change as the ranking process continues, but there are some surprises in the bottom 25 right now. - Six songs have been in every bottom ten so far, including the entire bottom five. The bottom two have yet to leave the bottom two. - And speaking of the bottom two, they're the only songs to not receive 20 points. The next two songs have also yet to reach 30 points. #96 has a near 30 point lead over #97 already. In contrast, 15 songs have over 300 points, with the top four having more than 350 points. - LET'S TALK ABOUT STANDARD DEVIATIONS, BABY! LET'S TALK ABOUT YOU AND ME! Our two highest standard deviations are fairly close to one another and can be found at #37 and #41. The two lowest almost couldn't be further apart, though, with the lowest residing at the very bottom at #100, while the second lowest is much higher up at #12. The current #99 is the third lowest, for the record. - And, of course, what would a ballot update be without the perennial Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
Outside of the aforementioned #1 tie, ties can also be found at #21, #27, #40, #45, #47, #58, #63, #68, #82, #86, and #97.

I think this might be the strongest year end bottom 10 any alternative year-end top 100 has had. Lots of gems between #91-100 on this list. I can't believe Kind & Generous qualified with a #32 peak.
Another fun fact, with the exception of 1999 and 2000, every song in my top 25 on this list would have been in my top 10 on every year I've participated in so far (2001-2007). This is crazy strong, and will only be rivalled by 1997.

Football , tsk-tsk-tsk...you should know better...when there's a tie in the Top10, you need to... There IS an alarm there, though. I'm typing in Georgia, size three font, and given what time of the ranking process it is, this can only mean one thing: LET'S TALK B-B-B-B-BALLOTS! Our participants this time are...*double-checks*...huh, interesting...we have FOUR participants this time! Red is changing the game...and by "changing the game", I mean "doing something that others have done in the past with ballot updates". Anyway, our participants this time are astorknight (sorry for not including your ranking before, simple mistake to make), alexcuse, Beno, and Cody. What is the state of the rankdown now? Well, someone has to figure this stuff out...MIGHT AS WELL BE ME!
- The two songs involved in the #1 tie before are still the top two, though we did have a new #1 during the course of this ballot update. #1 is currently 13 points ahead of #2, while the gap between #2 and #3 is much larger: Nearly 40 points separate #2 and #3 already. Meanwhile, the gap between #10 and #11 is a mere four points. - We have dropped the number of songs in every bottom ten in half, with only four songs having been in every top ten so far. Fittingly, those songs are the current top four. - Some of the bottom 25 surprises started to pick up steam, but a couple are still lingering in or around the bottom 25. One, in particular, is a big surprise to me. - Fittingly, just four songs have spent every ranking in the bottom ten now. Three of those songs make up the current bottom three, while the other is on the edge of the bottom five. - The point totals jumped big time with this update, but the bottom two are still hurting, the only two songs to not reach 100 points yet. #99 is 14 points ahead of #100, with #100 already a full ranking behind #90. The top twelve are the only songs with 600 or more points, meanwhile, with the top two grabbing 700 or more points. - YOU'VE GOTTA FIGHT...FOR YOUR RIGHT...TO STANDARD DEVIATION! The two highest standard deviations have both changed from the previous update, with those songs being found at #59 and #54. The current highest SD is FAR ahead of the rest of the pack. Meanwhile, our new lowest standard deviation is the song at the very bottom, #100, while the second lowest is not far away at #91. The earliest we find a top ten entry is the sixth-lowest, the song currently at #4. - And, really, what would a ballot update be without the perennial Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
Wait, what's that? We don't have a #1 tie this time? Well, that's okay, because we still have to SOUND THE ALARM! The top ten tie can be found at #8. There are also ties at #41, #44, #46, #48, #55, #75, and #77.

I copied the tag list from gates' first post in 1999, so it's not all my fault. There. You're now both retroactively tagged. I'd like to be tagged for these as well because I plan on doing them for now on.

Sent. Yeah, this list was indeed quite stacked! Most of these were 7/10 or better, and I only really disliked my bottom three (and I’m ready for the backlash of tanking the artist I ranked at #99, lol). I definitely like this list more than the 1999 one. I’m not sure how I’ll do in this, but I’m hoping for the best. I do expect my top three to make the top 20, though. I’m pumped for this! EDIT: Make that only two songs that I dislike. I moved my 98 to 91 (will re-submit edited list, at some point).

And my extremely mainstream-oriented list has been sent! If the 1999 list was amazing, this one was total heaven. I really loved my top 99 songs and would be happy if any of them won. My top 5 are all in my top 25 or 30 songs ever, though, so I'd like for them to do well. So as long as the one song I'm not really a fan of doesn't do too well I'm fine!

Man, 1999 was such a lame year. Like, my #1 in both rankdowns (spoilers) was a Nine Inch Nails song I had heard like...5 times before and still have no real strong feelings for, but jeez this year is just packed with great songs. I'm actually taking the time to listen to the full playlist all the way through, even all the songs that I've heard 1000 times before (and don't hate).

I'm typing in Georgia, size three font, and given what time of the ranking process it is, this can only mean one thing: THE BALLOT UPDATES ARE COMING! Well, I completely forgot to do a ballot update for @xfer, singingrulebritannia, janinho, and CF15...so you will now be joined by @pjscott11, Mr. Thonk Eyes, and @crapkuki23. Fair is fair. How did all six seven of these rankings impact the top ten at large?
- We've had some biiiig changes. We are down to just three songs in every top ten, with one top ten constant nearly dropping out of the top twenty. #1 also changed hands, albeit to a song that has been #1 before. The current #1 is over 20 points clear of #2, while #2 is 25 points clear of #3. A big gap has formed between the top five and the rest of the top ten, meanwhile, with #5 a whopping 85 points ahead of #6. The gap between #9 and #10 is also sizable, with #9 ahead by nearly 50 points. #10 is merely eight points ahead of #11. - Despite the many changes, only one of the four songs to never escape the bottom ten did so in this update. The current bottom three are now the only songs to have never spent time outside of the bottom ten. - Who wants threshold updates? No one? Well, you're getting them, anyway. Seventeen songs are above the 1,000 point mark, though just five are above 1,200 points. Closer to the bottom, every song now has at least 200 points. Unluckily for the bottom five, they have still yet to reach 300 points. - We're now getting closer to the home stretch, and some songs are finally starting to pick up a little steam. A couple of songs, though, are falling HARD. - YOU WILL BELIEVE A STANDARD DEVIATION CAN FLY! We have two new highest standard deviation contenders. These two songs can be found at #76 and #28. The current highest SD would shatter the record for highest SD in a rock chart rankdown. The lowest standard deviation remains the song at #100, while the second-lowest can now be found at #92. The earliest low SD in the top ten is the fifth-lowest, which can be found at #5. - And, really, what would a ballot update be without the perennial Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
I waited too long, so there's no top ten alarm. Whoops. But there are still ties, which can be found at #39, #64, #71, #73, and #93.Also, keep in mind that I've made changes to the song list. "Spacemonkeyz" are now "Space Monkeys", and The Smashing Pumpkins have now been returned their "The". :kii:
Oh, and, after nearly 20 rankdown years, the time has finally come...
(IT'S BEEN) ONE WEEK UNTIL THE DEADLINE.

I'm typing in Georgia, size three font, and given what time of the ranking process it is, this can only mean one thing: BALLOT UPDATES EVERYWHERE! Three new contestants are stepping up to the plate: wheatsquares33, American Idiot, and...*gulp*...@walker9. Given the explosive potential of these three posters submitting together, what changes have they wrought to the rankdown? Well, there's a couple of big changes, as to be expected...but where?
- How about we start at the top with a brand new #1? The new #1 is a song that has not been at #1 before. The previous #1 is not hurting too much, sliding down a single spot. Fun fact: There were three different #1s over the course of this ballot update. Two of them have never been #1 before. - From three songs in every top ten, we are down to just two. Also, just one of the last two remaining top ten constants is in the top five. #1 is currently just eight points ahead of #2, while #2 holds a slightly larger 15 point lead over #3. The gap is a little larger from there, with nearly 60 points separating#3 and #4. There's sizable gaps all over the place in the top ten, though the gap between #10 and #11 is just six points...and the song at #12 is not far off, either. - Not much has changed as far as the bottom ten constants are concerned, with all three bottom ten constants not escaping the bottom ten this time, either. What IS important is that those three songs do not make up the bottom three, though all three are still bottom five. Here's another fun fact: Our current #100 is the first song outside of the three bottom ten constants to spend time at #100. - THRESHOLD. UPDATE. IS. A. GO. 39 songs have now made it over the 1,000 point threshold, with just about the entire top ten over 1,300 points. Only one song, our current #1, has over 1,500 points. Every song also now has over 300 points, but seven songs have yet to get past the 400 point mark. - The hard falls continue, as at least one song reached a big new low this update. At least one song that spent time in the top half is also currently in the bottom 20. Meanwhile, a couple of songs that have spent time in the bottom 20 are currently in the top half. - COME WITH ME AND YOU'LL BE IN A WORLD OF STANDARD DEVIATION! The top two highest standard deviations from the previous update remain the two highest, which are the songs at...well...#76 and #27. #27 was just a single spot away from the two songs being in the exact same positions as last update. The highest SD is still on track to break the highest SD record. Our lowest SD is now the song that was at #92 in the last update. It has dropped a spot to #93. Meanwhile, the new second-lowest SD is a couple of spots below it at #97. The earliest low SD in the top ten is, once again, the song at #5, though it's a different song this time. It's the sixth-lowest SD, for the record. - And, of course, what would a ballot update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
The ties continue to be less frequent than earlier, but there are still ties at #27, #32, #42, #44, #53, and #78.Also, I have a bit of an announcement to make. I've decided to do something I don't normally do, after demand from a surprising amount of posters: I've decided to push the deadline back. The new deadline is Saturday, October 27th, so you now have five additional days to complete your ranking. Don't take this as an excuse to slack off, though. The deadline will NOT be pushed back again. The deadline time remains 7pm US Eastern.
So, with that in mind...
(IT'S BEEN...one day over) ONE WEEK UNTIL THE DEADLINE (again).

so I just finished listening to everything and making my preliminary list (will send in a few days just to let everything sink in) and yeah, this is probably my favourite alt list I've done since 2007 on first impression, there are songs in my 70s that I'd say I mostly like lmao

Easily the best list that we’ve done since 2007. I’m 80% done and I’ve only heard about 8 songs I’m not crazy for and only one that I’d consider awful. This has been the busiest 3 months of my life and I hope that I can get back into rankdowns soon.

I has a weird predicament with this year where despite nothing (with one HUGE glaring exception) was absolutely horrible, but a lot of stuff was overplayed and a lot of it was forgettable. I even kinda like some of the songs in my 90s. Kinda shocked that Josie didn't qualify, did it even chart? My #100 for this year seems like one that isn't that bad, but trust me, I hate it more than anything else I've ranked at #100 despite being objectively better musically than the others. This includes St. Anger and the two Limp Bizkit songs.
