Halsey becoming one of the few reliable pop hitmakers of 2018 is a big surprise.

Looking at the all-time airplay leaders, GLY actually has a lot in common with Iris, moreso than the other hits on there. They both hit the sweet spot of multi-format appeal without, frankly, being "iconic" as a song in the same way that "Don't Speak" or "We Belong Together" are ("Iris" is certainly a well-liked song by many, but I doubt you'd find many people who would call it more memorable than WBT or DS) . I realize that's somewhat subjective, but I think people consistently misunderstand that radio success is less about people loving a song, and more about a song being palatable to a broad group. The main thing radio stations want you to do is NOT change the channel, so they're more apt to play something harmless but uninspiring than something that a lot of people love but possibly a lot of people also dislike (I think this is why rap and country often struggle at radio -- people who don't like that genre REALLY dislike it -- it's basically a cliche for someone to say "I like almost anything except country and rap").

Or a Justin Bieber album. The 4th Quarter 2018 is a bust so far. We had a lot of favorites here and big names in the last 2 years. This year, not so much 2017: P!nk Kelly Clarkson Blake Shelton Maroon 5 Sam Smith Taylor Swift U2 Luke Bryan Eminem 2016: Green Day OneRepublic BTS Lady GaGa The Chainsmokers Alicia Keys Metallica Childish Gambino J. Cole Post Malone this year we still have Imagine Dragons coming. And Mariah Carey.. and that's about it really. Kanye West maybe if he actually releases it.

I can't imagine MiMi making that big of a splash after week 1. (I SO hope I'm wrong) Maybe Imagine Dragons can have a lingering hit album...

Should probably lower the expectations a bit

Just waiting for Rihanna or Adele to drop something and kill the charts Adele won't be coming for another year. Her fourth album is due out Christmas 2019. I heard from someone that they are pushing the album for a Q2 release.

Adele is to Release Her Fourth Album Christmas 2019
Published June 25th, 2018 - 07:01 GMT via SyndiGate.info
She released her last chart-topping album, 25, in 2015.
And after three years out of the recording studio, insiders report Adele is prepping for a new record.
Sources have told The Sun that he Hello singer has been meeting with her record label in preparation to record her fourth album with a Christmas 2019 release date.
Comeback: After three years out of the recording studio, insiders report Adele is prepping for a new record, meeting with record bosses ahead of a summer of writing
According to The Sun, Adele, 30, had a meeting about the project earlier this month at Sony's offices in London and will spend the summer writing for the record. A music insider said: 'She's back in the UK and intends to write here. A number of studio musicians have been approached to work with her and she's already penned some of the songs.'
Adele completed a world tour in 2016 and told fans to expect a long break before her return. She has previously released albums 19 in 2008, 21 in 2011 and 25 three years ago.
The star, who is worth an estimated £102 million, was spotted back in her home city last week as she ventured into a London branch of Marks and Spencer on Tuesday morning.
The singer, 30, called into the retail giant’s High Street Kensington store before making a hasty beeline for the upper floors, which are dominated by large children's-wear and shoe departments.
Adele, a parent to son Angelo with husband Simon Konecki, looked relaxed in a black top and floral skirt as she threaded her way past bold signs advertising affordable £22.50 shirts and made her way onto the escalator.
Despite her global fame, shoppers appeared to be completely oblivious to the star, who visited the store during one of its busiest hours.
Fellow customers didn't look twice as they made their way up and down a set of stairs running alongside the escalator, unaware of the multi-millionaire superstar in their presence.
Splashing out should be no problem for Adele, whose last world tour raked in more than £142 million in combined ticket and merchandise sales.
In figures made public by her company Remedy Touring LLP Adele pocketed £42 million of the total amount, with Remedy making an impressive £70 million profit from her 16-month tour, which culminated at Wembley Stadium last June.
The star earned more than £9 million from record sales in 2017 alone, despite her last album - the critically acclaimed 25 - being released three years ago.
She is also rumoured to be considering a lucrative 12-month residency at Las Vegas hotel The Wynn, worth £22 million - or £380,000 per show.
Adele's latest appearance comes just days after she paid her respects to the 72 victims who lost their lives during the Grenfell Tower disaster in nearby North Kensington last June.
The singer joined grime star Stormzy and thousands of mourners to remember the victims of the disaster as Britain fell silent on the first anniversary of the deadliest residential fire since the Blitz.
Adele looked emotional among mourners in the shadow of Grenfell Tower and sang along as a gospel choir performed Bill Withers' hit Lean On Me while wreaths were laid and candles were lit in memory of the dead.
The singer, who comes from Tottenham, had also made a discreet appearance at Grenfell last June less than 24 hours after the fire at a vigil, where she was said to have 'hugged and comforted' victims and survivors.

I'm worried about "High Hopes" hitting #11 this week, I hope it doesn't fall under the #11 curse that's affecting so many good songs this year. I don't wanna see it dropping like a stone next week.
Not gonna lie, I love Halsey's "Without Me". Oh well.

There’s really no point in Q4 releases anymore which is why this quarter has probably nothing huge and that will probably be the new trend.
Streams don’t spike much during the Holidays like how sales would completely explode. The top selling album released this year also has only sold 450K so what would the boost even be these days? I remember last years boosts were pitiful too.

(Consider that all of them released in the beginning of the 4th quarter) I still don't understand why we aren't having big names this quarter of the year. Did Avril confirmed her new album will come this year?

I remember last years boosts were pitiful too. The record industry pretty much eliminated music as a 'go-to' gift. The days of giving CDs or iTunes gift cards as stocking stuffers are long gone. I'd love to know what % of physical CDs in 2018 were result of ticket/merchandise redemptions rather standalone POS, which is would highlight just how small the gift market has become.

When I mentioned the 4th Quarter, I was talking more about the excitement of new music, than an increase in sales.
15 pages with only part of the Hot 100 revealed.

Steve Aoki & BTS Enter Hot 100 With 'Waste It on Me' Collaboration
11/5/2018 by Jeff Benjamin
The new team-up earns BTS their first top 10 on the electronic-dance charts.
Steve Aoki and BTS continue to be a winning combination on the charts as their new collaboration enters the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
The DJ-producer's new single "Waste It on Me," featuring the Korean supergroup, debuts at No. 89 on the Hot 100 (dated Nov. 10). The track, which marks BTS' first all-English record, earned 5.8 million U.S. streams and sold 13,000 downloads in its first full week of tracking (ending Nov. 1), according to Nielsen Music. The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming, radio airplay and digital sales data.

This isn't the first time Aoki and BTS have appeared together on the charts. "Waste It on Me" is the second time they've collaborated on a Hot 100 hit, as the Steve Aoki remix of BTS' "MIC Drop" (credited officially to BTS featuring Desiigner) hit No. 28 on the Hot 100 and spent 10 weeks on the chart. Meanwhile, "The Truth Untold," an album cut from BTS' Love Yourself: Tear album that featured Aoki, hit No. 2 on the World Digital Song Sales chart in June of this year.
Despite being originally released on Thursday, Oct. 25, and having less than a day to earn chart points last week, "Waste It on Me" still wound up landing at No. 11 on the Nov. 3-dated Hot Electronic/Dance Songs chart (which, like the Hot 100, blends streaming, airplay and sales data). On this week's tally, "Waste It on Me" jumps 11-6 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, marking Aoki's fifth top 10 and BTS' first. To date, "Waste It on Me" has sold 27,000 downloads total.
"Waste It on Me" is also bubbling under the Pop Songs radio airplay chart. It's led by 63 plays in the tracking week (ending Nov. 4) by Radio Disney, along with 26 spins on KMVQ San Francisco, 23 on KDDB Honolulu and 19 on KJYO Oklahoma City, Okla. The Steve Aoki remix of "MIC Drop" peaked on Pop Songs at No. 25 to give BTS their highest ranking on the top 40 radio play chart so far.
With its easy-on-the-ears trop-pop sound and comforting crooning from the singers, "Waste It on Me" could certainly have longevity on the charts with early interest from radio indicating it could help the artists break into even more new chart territory.
All charts, including the Hot 100, Pop Songs and the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, will update on Billboard.com on Nov. 6.

Did Avril confirmed her new album will come this year? Pushed to first quarter 2019 and as much as I love the girl, I’m not sure she’d be an event at this point. I anticipate the album selling less than 100k during its total run barring a single taking off

I feel like 2018 is honestly a great year for music. Better than 2017.
In 2018 we had: Kanye West, Kanye & Cudi, Post Malone, Drake, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Migos, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, A$AP Rocky
