Ikr, even 2016 music sounds kinda different from today. Same with 2017, both of those years had considerable amount of hip-hop hits but there was still a shitload of pop songs dominating, but this year the pop charts has been 90 percent hip-hop. A lot has changed in one year. I feel like 2017 was the year where rap was starting to dominate over pop.

Indie songs like We Are Young, Ho Hey, etc. Here's more dated stuff from this decade: Meghan Trainor in general Vine rap (Watch Me, Hit The Quan, Coco, etc.) 2012-2013 Mike-Will produced songs (Love Me, No Lie, etc.)

Pretty much all the electro dance-pop from 2010-2012 sounds horribly dated now. Agreed, especially some songs on J. Lo's Love album. They sound incredibly dated.

Only Girl by Rihanna and Beauty and Beat by Justin Bieber are the first songs to come to my mind. In fact almost all the pop-dance songs from 2010-2012 sound frightfully dated today.

Most dubstep or dubstep-influenced songs sound dated to 2011-2014 now, since that's when the genre was at its biggest. The main example of this is Turn Down For What. Turn Down For What is not dubstep... It's trap, which is more popular in 2018 than it was in 2014. Isn't Trap rap and Trap EDM different from each other? I think you meant Trap rap is what is popular now, I don't see Trap EDM in the charts nowadays.

Isn't Trap rap and Trap EDM different from each other? I think you meant Trap rap is what is popular now, I don't see Trap EDM in the charts nowadays. They have the same roots. The decade started out with EDM, which started turning into trap-EDM and then into regular trap, but trap-EDM still exists today. Don't Let Me Down is probably the biggest example, it was a huge trap-EDM song, basically TDFW 2.0 and it was released only two years ago. Marshmello is a huge producer currently who puts trap elements in all of his hits, including the one currently at #3 on the Hot 100. Another example is Solo. Regardless, I think it's too early to call it "dated". The loud party songs from 2010-2013 are dated, but several tropical house EDM songs with trap influences still smashed globally in 2017-2018. DLMD is certainly not "today's" hit lol. Plus, Marshmello's 2017-2018 stuff has a different style from the Trap-EDM hits from the mid 2010s such as TDFW and DLMD. The EDM today doesn't have a lot of hard, bassy drops. DJ Snake has gone Reggaeton and The Chainsmokers are doing softer EDM.

What other trap-EDM songs can you list that hit it big from that era? TDFW was pretty unique at the time, which is why I don’t understand you chose that song to call dated when it’s probably the least dated of all 2013 EDM songs, imo. The type of trap influenced EDM that did well was never as hard as TDFW, from what I remember. You may be right, TDFW sounds pretty unique compared to the other EDM songs from the time. But can we agree that Animals by Martin Garrix is the most dated EDM song of the decade.

I like to nominate all of BEP's songs from 2010, but especially songs like Rock Your Body and The Time (Dirty Bit). Like A G6 seemed pretty dated in 2010, so what does that tell us about it now? As much as I like them, the folksy songs from 2012-13 sound pretty dated, in particular, a song like Home by Phillip Phillips stands out. Lastly, I like to nominate I Want You to Know by Zedd and Selena Gomez, simply for sounding incredibly dated at the time of its release.

Most rap from the year 2010 and, to a lesser extent, 2011 sounds more like late 2000s rap than anything that got popular in the streaming era. Good examples of this include BedRock, Club Can't Handle Me, and the aformentioned Like A G6. I think "Club" and G6 are more EDM than rap/hip-hop, but point taken. The years since have seen a lot of streaming, Vine, or SoundCloud driven rap hits that sounded almost instantly dated, probably because they (and many of their artists) faded so fast. "Watch Me" or "Panda", anyone?
