Thank u next is a nice song but this doesn't seem like a number 1 worthy song at all. Problem and No Tears Left To Cry were WAY more number 1 worthy IMO.

^AC radio always seems to latch onto hits relatively late in their chart runs.

It's definitely a mixture of Pop and Rap taking over recently, with R&B heading back up as well.

It's definitely a mixture of Pop and Rap taking over recently, with R&B heading back up as well. Rap is also getting less "rap" and more rap-singing. Juice WRLD, Travis Scott, X, Post, Drake

Ariana Grande Aiming For First Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 With 'Thank U, Next'
11/8/2018 by Gary Trust
The song, released late Saturday, Nov. 3, could launch on top next week.
Ariana Grande is vying for her first No. 1 on next week's Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Nov. 17), as her new single "Thank U, Next" could blast in at the summit, following its release late Saturday night (Nov. 3).
The Hot 100 songs survey blends weekly streaming, airplay and sales data, according to Nielsen Music.
According to building Nielsen Music data, "Next," released on Republic Records, should launch with over 50 million U.S. streams, 10 million in airplay audience and 60,000 downloads sold, placing it in line to arrive as the most-streamed and most-sold song of the week.
Notably, the song will debut on the Hot 100 with just over five days of streaming and sales data, as the tracking week for those metrics runs Friday through Thursday. (Grande has released two videos for the song so far: an audio clip upon its release, and a lyric video Nov. 6.)
Grande, who is managed by Scooter Braun's SB Projects, has notched 10 Hot 100 top 10s, hitting a No. 2 high with "Problem," featuring Iggy Azalea, in 2014. She most recently reached the region with "God Is a Woman" (No. 8 in September), which this week becomes her fourth No. 1 on the Pop Songs airplay chart.
"Woman" is from Grande's third Billboard 200 No. 1 album, Sweetener, while "Next" is, as of now, a stand-alone track, with the song's lyrics referencing past relationships with (among others), real-life exes Pete Davidson and the late Mac Miller.
If "Next" soars in atop the Hot 100, it would dethrone Maroon 5's "Girls Like You," featuring Cardi B, which has led the list for seven weeks running.
Highlights of next week's Hot 100 will post on Billboard.com Monday (Nov. 12), with all charts posting the following day (Nov. 13).

AC picks up songs late in the run and hangs on to them forever.
On AC recurrents, for example, Uptown Funk is still charting

"Girls Like You" just went to #1 on AC radio. How is that even possible Perfect is #3 AC. AC picks up slower than pop as songs don't fly up there as fast (unless you're Hello by Adele). Will see how GLY ventures with the freeze coming up.

Just spare us the usual excuses and backtracking when Thank U, Next doesn't go #1. Likewise, I'll refrain from any backtracking and just collect my L.

Jesus, even "Good For You", a 2015 song, is still charting in the top 50 on AC.

Ariana Grande Aiming For First Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 With 'Thank U, Next'
11/8/2018 by Gary TrustThe song, released late Saturday, Nov. 3, could launch on top next week. Ariana Grande is vying for her first No. 1 on next week's Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Nov. 17), as her new single "Thank U, Next" could blast in at the summit, following its release late Saturday night (Nov. 3). We ALWAYS get one of these when Billboard is sure of a #1 debut and it ALWAYS comes early in the tracking week, NOT during the weekends.

^ How many times has Billboard made something similar and ended up being wrong. It’ll be pretty much impossible for anyone to catch up with her at this point though. Considering her streaming numbers, it isn’t even a race.

^ How many times has Billboard made something similar and ended up being wrong. Two times. First time is with "Lucid Dreams" when they projected it would go #1 the week where "Nice for What" had its 7th week at #1 and "I Like It" where they projected it would go #1 the week "SAD!" goes to #1. However, I doubt they got "thank u, next" wrong. It's definitely a lock for the #1 spot.

Has a song ever been #1 in sales and streaming by this much of a lead, and still not been #1 on the Hot 100? Especially if it's got airplay traction as well?

If Adele randomly released a song today/tomorrow, then she could probably beat Ariana. I wish Rihanna would release soon haha. I hope Ariana gets this, but we need some spiciness in the charts. So many artists could be bagging #1 hits or even Top 5 hits EASILY right now to help pad their stats. It's SHOCKING no one is taking advantage of this until Ariana. How insane.

2018 is a horrible year for music so the number 1 songs points is going to be low. We need better quality music in 2019. I'd love for it to go back to a year like 2007 where all the genres were popular equally. I think the top 20 of that year had Rap, R&B, Rock, Alt, Hot AC, Country, Pop, Dance, and much more. I'd love for it to go back to something similar.

Music is released to target a certain time of the year. 4th quarter is always pretty big. I doubt labels are sitting there using Hot 100 points as a reason to release a certain week.
If a song was meant to be a hit it will be. Regardless of the hot 100 points of the prior #1

Their was just so much rap music charting higher this year than anything else that I’m really hoping their is a shakeup in 2019.
