If Adele randomly released a song today/tomorrow, then she could probably beat Ariana. I wish Rihanna would release soon haha. I hope Ariana gets this, but we need some spiciness in the charts. So many artists could be bagging #1 hits or even Top 5 hits EASILY right now to help pad their stats. It's SHOCKING no one is taking advantage of this until Ariana. How insane. If she released tomorrow, the only points sheβd get this week would be from airplay, and itβs a mathematical certainty sheβd lose even if all the stations in the country were playing it relentlessly.

2018 is a horrible year for music so the number 1 songs points is going to be low. We need better quality music in 2019. I'd love for it to go back to a year like 2007 where all the genres were popular equally. I think the top 20 of that year had Rap, R&B, Rock, Alt, Hot AC, Country, Pop, Dance, and much more. I'd love for it to go back to something similar. this was actually a pretty cool year except for really good musicians dying

Literally kept pop alive durning the beginning of the year, Havana spent longer in the top 20 then all Ariana songs spent charting total

Sure, a bit more success for good country is a plus, and we got songs like "This is America", and "Freaky Friday", which were more interesting lyrically for the mainstream, but then we got a bunch of mediocre hip-hop, and the coffee shop backing generic AC fodder of "Perfect" being the biggest hit of the year. Literally kept pop alive durning the beginning of the year, Havana spent longer in the top 20 then all Ariana songs spent charting total By having a rapper feature on it...

We need another Adele or Gotye to sweep the bullshit.

I hope in the next year or two, we'll have some variety in the charts. I love it when the top 20 charts have Pop, Edm, Country, Rock, Rap, Alternative, R&B together. I hope the likes of 6ix9ine and Lil Pump will fade into obscurity as well. We definitely need more Chance The Rapper, Childish Gambino, and Kendrick Lamar in the rap scene.

Heβs a one hit wonder but somebody that i used to know dominated 2012 and was one of the most unique number 1βs this decade because it was very alternative instead of the usual pop/rap/r&b

Somebody That I Used To Know was very influential and still is, it's probably the most unique #1 of the decade.

I was not used to hearing something that strange on pop radio, and We Are Young was already doing well at the time along with Adele's hits, but they weren't really out of place compared to Gotye. Somebody That I Used To Know didn't really fit in. But it started sounding normal as more and more indie acts like Imagine Dragons and Lumineers started making waves, and suddenly that type of music was the norm.

She's not an indie artist, but at the time she was an anomaly. She was some mildly known act from the UK who had some success with her first album then absolutely exploded out of nowhere with 21, and this was 2011 where all the big hits came from Katy Perry, Rihanna, Kesha, Pitbull, etc. She helped somewhat with the indie boom, but I actually think she's more responsible for all the billion of piano ballads that got popular post-21. That's for better or for worse.

She isn't an indie artist but she certainly created a whole lotta space in the industry for the indie boom to take hold of.

After years and hits, all Ariana had to do was interrupt her own era (that was still relatively new!) with a new song and bam: #1!

According to fhas, NTLTC's first week looked like:
100k sales, 27m radio AI, 22.8m on-demand streams, 11.1m YouTube views, 2.9m programmed streams (36.9m streams total)
TUNs first week numbers will be really interesting to see, even if its not as big points-wise, it'll peak higher lol
