After the Famous controversy in 2016, people on Twitter have been throwing the "#TaylorSwiftIsOverParty" and then received mixed reviews on her recent album Reputation a year later. Do you guys think Taylor Swift can win the public back when she drops new music?

I don't think she'll ever top 1989 since that's nearly impossible, but I think it's possible for her next era to be more successful, commercially, than reputation. "Delicate" was/is proof that the general public is still here for her. It just depends on the material she comes back with.

There's nothing for Taylor to "comeback" from. Reputation was a huge commercial success and if anyone is using 1989 as the standard for her having a successful era then they're being ridiculous.

How does one make a comeback when they've never left the top? Isn't reputation, like, 4x Platinum or something?

What was the famous controversy of 2016 tho? When Kim Kardashian got a recording of Taylor Swift showing approval to Kanye on a certain lyric on his song Famous. This made people spam snake emojis in her social media and #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty trended on Twitter.

Taylor May have only one major hit single this era but Everything else she is doing just fine. The Album has sold enough to be considered successful and her tour was a major success. Taylorβs Fujifilm Camera is selling out everywhere worldwide. MTV and their award nominations mean nothing, they just follow trends.

Anything that came after 1989 was gonna feel less impactful obviously that era was huge and as someone said above it will probably never be topped. But in saying that Reputation was still a commercial success, it sold over 2M copies in the US alone and for a 2017/18 album to do that is very impressive. Obviously the singles weren't as big as previous era but I think Delicate proved that radio is still here for her. I can see why people would call it a comeback but I can also see why people don't view it as a comeback. Very interested to see where her next era takes her.

Comeback from what? A string of hits, a top selling album of the year, and a record breaking tour?
I know the era wasn't 1989 levels of success, but it's not like she is completely out of the minds of the general public now. She's still one of the biggest musicians on the planet. 1989 was something few musicians ever achieve and she will never top that success, but she doesn't need to.
To put it bluntly, you have to go away to come back, and she's yet to leave.

There's no comeback to be had; however, I think she will struggle with her next era. The public may have lightened up on her a bit now that she's gone political.

I expect her next album to be like reputation. Number one debut and maybe one top 10 song...but much bigger than LWYMMD and RFI.

She's not going to debut with 1 million sales again. But in terms of singles, she might have a bigger era on the H100. Really? I wouldn't be surprised if her next album does with a Q4 release and a moderately sized hit from the lead single. Her last few opening weeks have been very consistent despite the fall in the album sales market.

I remember when this conversation happened with Katy. Prism was enough to say she was fine but then Witness came along. Reputation was more than enough to say Taylor is still doing it, but

With the right material, by all means she can. Absolutely. I think she can recover from Reputation. More poppier sounds and upbeat lyrics, less rip-offs of Drake.

Rumor has it that her next album is lighter and close to the sound of 'Red' aka pop but with heavy country elements. I was surprised to hear that since I had predicted that she wouldn't go back to country before let's say 2026. But you never know.
One thing I know for sure (well I can't be sure about anything but I just feel it), the lead single will be a WANEGBT sized hit with positive reception.

When did she leave? Still one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
The Katy comment is actually accurate though. The idea of Witness being such a colossal failure was a joke to me back then, but it did happen... I still don't think Taylor fell off as hard. It will come down to the direction she takes with the material, and whether she stops with the delayed streaming releases and the very light promo schedule.

Sheβll probably come back with similar success to reputation and slowly see diminishing returns next decade. Another 1989 era is not happening. Thatβs a once in a career type of era.
