Hallelujah is a classic. The Pentatonix version of the song is not a classic. Yet... It's charted better than most other versions. And still sells a lot during the holidays. Same with "Mary, Did You Know?". So clearly, you think that version is a classic hit of Pentatonix because it's charting and selling well. Yet, you keep asking why AIWFCIY is a classic and what defines a classic.

Is this thread about whether or not the song is a "classic" or why one person does not like it? It seems a song can be a "classic" without appealing to everyone.

I asked if I was the only one who wasn't a big fan of the song, and then they say "it's a classic". Doesn't exactly answer the question, but I likely know where they stand.

I said this a long time ago in some other thread, but one thing that makes AIWFCIY unique compared to other inarguable holiday classics is that the original is THE definitive version. Every cover thus far has been an obviously inferior imitation that radio didn't pick up - if anything, covering the song just affirms everything that makes the original what it is.
I'm sure that The Christmas Song, White Christmas, I'll Be Home For Christmas, Silent Night etc. get played just as much if not more overall, but the plays for those songs are spread out across a thousand different covers. So there's not really a chance to get sick of ol' Bing or Nat the way you could with Mariah. There's only one version of AIWFCIY that you're going to hear this season and every season thereafter, which is great if you love it, but a real shame if you don't.
FWIW if you were in the UK you'd probably be sick to death of Last Christmas, too.

It's nearing the Top 20 over there. Radio seems to be picking that up. Also, I bet if Pentatonix covered it, radio would probably pick it up. Given how high their sales are during the holidays.

Oh, to actually answer the question of the thread, no you're not the only person who's not a big fan of the song. I've seen people on Twitter bitch about it before. You're just probably the only person here who isn't lol.
Weirdly, my sister LOVES Merry Christmas, but AIWFCIY is in her bottom half of faves on that album. She doesn't mind it but she's all about Joy To The World, O Holy Night, and Miss You Most (At Christmas Time).

For this year. It’s not likely to become the standard. Bieber’s version didn’t either - although it does pop up year after year.

I should check Ingrid's version out, although I already know I'll hate it, heh. I was so grateful Kelly didn't cover it when she did Wrapped In Red; I just can't ever get into any non-Mariah version. Pentatonix could probably do all right by it though, they'd pick up on all the harmonies and embellishments and other background nuances that I always find missing from other covers. The fact that it would take five people to successfully tackle one song says a lot though.

I think you're just jealous Pentatonix doesn't have a classic as big as AIWFCIY. Their version of "Hallelujah" is actually the only other holiday song currently in the Top 100 on iTunes (aside from Adam Sandler), so... There's that. Also, their Christmas albums sell a ton of copies in today's climate, without being forced down the throats of the populace as heavy. Wait - is the only reason why you don’t like it is because of charts? Overplay plays a factor in my (and a lot of people's liking of a song). I hate "Shape of You" for similar reasons. I hated "Call Me Maybe" for a bit till the excessive overplay stopped. “Hallelujah” isn’t a holiday song. This thread has no real purpose.

Same with "Mary, Did You Know?". To my knowledge they’re the only ones who have marketed it as a holiday song, so of course it sells better during the holidays. Lol. Trump fans love being duped.

Pentatonix are probably one of the few pop acts that can match up to Carey vocally. And they've shown to do just fine on their own with their solo projects. Having five voices just helps fill out the mix due to lack of instruments. Also, couldn't you make that argument for most music? It's not like Mariah was the only one. She had a co-writer and producer. Probably needed someone to play instruments as well. Yet... It's charted better than most other versions. And still sells a lot during the holidays. Doesn't matter. Their version is considered a holiday song. "Trump fans". Look, assuming. You made quite an ass of yourself. Remember, if you're not a hardcore SJW leftist, you support Trump! Although, being a fan of Clinton definitely isn't much better. So maybe check yourself first.

And the fact that you say Pentatonix can match Mariah vocally shows you’ve been gaslit. The judge said I had probably cause and could jump to a summary judgment.

And Mitch is one of the best tenors you'll hear in pop music today. "Probably cause". They're one of the most diverse groups in music. You SJWs should love that. You're all about inclusion. Granted, they're chosen based on their ability, not for the sake of inclusion itself. Again, check yourself for your Clinton love before you fail at assuming one's political affilation.

What does Trump & Clinton have to do with this Christmas song? I don't know. He brought it up. Apparently, liking Pentatonix means you like Trump. It was just a random political shot out of the blue accusing me of supporting someone I don't.

....This divulged into a mess of a thread fast Divulged? The original topic post is asking if the person is the only one to dislike a song. It was shady from the jump. ....This divulged into a mess of a thread fast It did. Oh well. It's what happens when someone ignorant just brings up politics out of nowhere. Actually it’s what happens when you create a thread to be messy.

Because it seems like a universally liked song. And given the responses here, the question was appropriate.

Seeing how much of a mess this thread has already become, I don't want to spend much time here. Good thing someone already summed up my exact thoughts on this: Yeah no, I'm sorry AIWFCIY is a classic, only other recent Christmas classic that can be speaken of is Kelly's Underneath The Tree.

I don't see it that way, that this thread was created to be shady and messy. It became that way because people are shocked that not everyone absolutely loves the "classic" known as "All I Want For Christmas is You"
It can still be a "classic" and not loved by one and all the world over. It is definitely possible.
The original question: No - He is not the only one not a big fan of the song
Simple as that

Kelly’s song is by no means a classic. I don’t mean that as shade, it’s just factual. It could become a classic, though. “AIWFCIY” didn’t really take off until nearly 10 years after its release and wasn’t a true classic until 10-15 years in.
