With all of the people that were predicting Moments in Love to be the first of the mid-80s songs to go, I'm just glad it made it this far. I knew its length and tempo would automatically earn it tanks from certain people, but I didn't think the support would be heavy enough to let it land right in the middle.

For me it wasn't the length or the tempo of 'Moments In Love' that snagged it my #45. When I was listening to it for this rankdown I just felt like it wasn't going anywhere and I got bored waiting for it to finish.
I'm okay with extra length, I was enjoying dance remixes of pop songs about as long (or longer) since I was 8. It's just gotta be able to keep my interest for the entire duration and at the time, this didn't.

I really liked this. I doubt it will be a big shock to anyone that a big reason why is Moroder. I genuinely thought this would be higher...guess not. Exactly why I always do a little research on songs while I preview them. Especially if certain vibes stand out. This one has that Disco Vibe Moroder always injects in the music. Giorgio produced three Sparks albums back to back. This shit #30 slot is a travesty for this band. 8D

33. Echo Beach - Martha And The Muffins I had this a little higher on my first of three drafts for this list, but It didn't quite reach my top 10. Good song. Love the brass. Loved the band's name.
32. Fineshrine - Purity Ring I was dozing off before the song ended. I was hoping this would show up sooner than later.
31. Cherry - Chromatics Like Purity Ring this is also modern sounding Synthpop, but this is the type I love. The synths and her vocals take that center stage and really bring the melody alive. The percussion is just there to keep the pace, but it's perfect for this kind of Synthpop. Sounds like LGHTNNG, CHVRCHES, etc... All this praise and I still couldn't squeeze into my top 25. Too many 80's classic in this mix. ;)
29.. One Thing Leads To Another - The Fixx Not synthpop in my book, but who cares this song is rad. I'd say the top 10 rankings are the accurate ones. Everything else is crap? 8D
28.Goodbye Horses - Q Lazzarus You really gotta see Ted Levine do his "Silence Of The Lambs dance while you listen to this song to get the full effect of the song's awesomness.
27. Duel - Propaganda You all are really blowing it here. This rank down is starting to suck hard. BTW, the female vocals are great here.
26. Joan of Arc (Maid of Orleans) - Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark With all the NRG this band usually injects in their music this has none. This is one of my least favorite songs from them.
25. Being Boiled - The Human League Speaking of boring songs from great bands. Add this one to the list. "Travelogue" was a weird album. I never liked it.
24. Everything Is Embarrassing - Sky Ferreira I couldn't find the version with synthesizers. I would like to hear her vocals in an upbeat synthpop song.
23. Moments In Love - Art of Noise This is just a bunch of Artsy Noize. Not my thing.

EXTRA:
Strawberry Skies - Games Synthpop with New Wave vibes. What I loved most about this song was the Italo Disco vibe it had. These two musicians actually cited Italo Disco as a genre they were inspired by. Great song. easy top 10 for me if you would have included it on the list.
Tren Al Sur - Los Prisioneros hell yes. This is a classic over here. the one with over 15 mil views is the one with all the comments written in Spanish. "Estrechez De Corazon' was also huge in the clubs.
Smalltalk - UltraÃsta I would probably grow to like this one with more listens. Tonight it sounded nice, maybe a bit too "experimental"?

Well, I said none of these extras would be too big, but when I was trying to find this song on YouTube, apparently one of the uploads has 51 million views?? EXTRATren Al Sur Los Prisioneros Post your thoughts on this song below! The album "Corazones" by Los Prisioneros is full of great synth pop songs. It was very successful in Latin America thanks to MTV Latino. Amiga Mia is my favorite from that album. Surprised that Moments in Love made it that far. With many of these songs it was hard to make the distinction between the song and the artist when assigning a rank. For example, OMD or Art of Noise or even Human League, I love these artists but the songs that we had to rank are not my favorites by them.

45. Europa & the Pirate Twins (31): Up until this year I had only heard SBMWS and Hyperactive. This was a cute fun song that didn't deserve to be the first one to leave 44. Ghosts (45): This was a first listen, and an easy last place for me. Nothing to grab my attention even when I listened to it a handful of times. 43. Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime (29): This is the lowest I've ranked a song that I heard when it was first released. I like its progressive sound, but it does get a bit too monotonous. Gave it extra points for familiarity. 42. Girl U Want (38): Another first listen. It sounded fun and all, but a bit too simple and gimmicky for my liking. 41. Everyday Is Halloween (27): I like the sound quite a bit, but the vocals are pretty bad lol. 40. You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) (4): ??!!!! I can only assume that this was mistreated because of its miscategorization. I mean, this is not really synthpop but disco --and one strong classic disco song, with real instruments and super strong vocals. Even if it's not synthpop, this doesn't deserve bottom 5. 39. In The Morning (36): Another first listen. Nice melody, but not much more than that IMO. 38. The First Picture of You (28): Pretty good first listen. This is the type of music that is more my cup of tea: lovely instrumentation and good vocals. 37. Nuclear Seasons (24): VERY nice surprise! One of those first listens that kept going up in my RD. Very 80s sounding, with good vocals and instrumentation. 36. Standing (19): This was yet another first listen, and my second favorite among the newest songs in this RD. This has the type of sound I like and dark almost Alt vocals. Pretty good discovery! 35. A Real Hero (30): Interesting first listen. Nice, almost new-edgey melody, with dreamy vocals. Good discovery. 34. To Live and Die in L.A. (39): Not among my favorite WC songs. I prefer stuff like Hypnotize or Let's Go. 33. Echo Beach (40): Not too synthpop sounding to me. It's actually the type of rocky sound that doesn't do much for me. 32. Fineshrine (41): This one was just a flat first listen. I was hoping it could go somewhere more interesting, but it never did. 31. Cherry (22): Great discovery. This kept winning new and more familiar songs in this RD. And it's actually been stuck in my head all day today! I love the vocals, and the mysterious and hypnotic sound.

"Everyday Is Like Halloween" is one of my favorite discoveries ever from a rankdown. I was not expecting a synthpop song that awesome from Ministry. Shame it had to finish in the bottom 5.
I'm doing a lot better than I thought I'd be at this point. I figured I would have lost more of my top 10 by now with such a strong field of songs. I am disappointed though that "Moments in Love" and "Duel" missed out on making the top half. Both songs deserved to do better.

As far as new songs, I liked The Sparrows and the Nightingales and This is the Day instantly, they both made my top 20. Will they make it to the top 20 here?

#22-11: The Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Set The top 22 starts with a song receiving 11 top 22 ranks. 1 is top 5, 2 are top 10, and 3 are top 15. It also has a bottom 5 and 5 bottom 10s. Ths song stayed pretty low for the first third of submission, then surged into the top 20 and even top 15 before tailing off again.

#21 is only in this position because of the last list. It logged some top 20 hours early and in the middle, but otherwise wasn't able to consistently stay in the top 22. 3 low bottom 5s disappear, plus 3 bottom 10s. 13 people ranked this top 22. Specifically, we'll get rid of a top 5, 2 top 10s, and 5 top 15s.

#20 is the source of the next bottom 10 clearing, as well as the 3rd lowest standard deviation. Only 3 bottom 10s, though 1 is a low bottom 5. An astounding 9 rankings start with a 2-. 8 top 20s, and 2 top 10s.

Is it bad that, even with where I ranked this, I think a low bottom five for this is harsh?

#19 is the 5th highest SD in the game. It's the first song to be in the top 20 the whole game. 7 bottom 10s, and all but 2 are bottom 5s (someone won't have any after this reveal). But only 2 more people didn't rank the song top 22. Funnily enough, for such a high SD, it only has 5 top 10s.

I thought this might have a high SD, but I gave some of you too much credit and didn't outright say it. This is beautiful, but it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that it got tanked.

this is easily one of the most beautiful tracks I've ever heard, it literally sounds like falling deep in love with the love of your life, which is what the song is about, fittingly. I haven't really stopped listening to this since I discovered it from this rankdown. absolutely gorgeous, and Julee Cruise sings like a goddamn angel also, looks like we know who killed Laura Palmer.

I'm surprised #18 doesn't have a lower SD than it does. It only has 7 bottom 15s, and just one is a bottom 10 (not even a bottom 5). It also only has 10 people ranking it in the top 22. It helps when the same number of people ranked this top 10 as did "Falling" [5] and there are actually more top 5s [2], with one being yet another #1. You wouldn't think it, but this song also almost spent every ranking in the top 20, and even got pretty close to the top 10 about a 1/3rd of the way through.
