Next up: a song that initially looked like a top 20 contender, but ended up getting pushed out of the top 30 at the very end.

#32 - Ask Me How I KnowBillboard Country Airplay peak: #1 Highest Ranking: #3 George Strait JunkieLowest Ranking : #54 Glove Slap TroublemakerTotal Points: 568 Average Rank: 31.556 George Strait Junkie - 3 Kanenrá:ke – 15 someguy – 17 @xfer - 17 austin – 19 bboat11 – 22 toomuchboy – 23 collinkottke - 30 Cody Wants Out... - 33 sabre14 – 34 Andy - 34 tim - 36 kw9461 - 36 gardyfan - 42 castleoblivion26 – 46 CoJoFan - 53 Troublemaker - 54 Glove Slap - 54 Leaving at #32 is Garth's most recent #1, "Ask Me How I Know", which hit #1 in late 2017. The song ended Garth's 10 year drought of #1s, since "More Than A Memory" in 2007. The song took awhile to peak, becoming his slowest climbing #1, but managed to make it to #1. It was considered somewhat of a return to form for Garth, after lukewarm receptions to his 'comeback' singles in the 2010s. It initially looked like a top 20 contender here, but a few lower ranks near the middle bumped it out of contention, and then at the end, a couple of lower ranks pushed it right out of the top 30.

#31 - American Honky-Tonk Bar AssociationBillboard Country Airplay peak: #1 Highest Ranking: #4 gardyfanLowest Ranking : #58 @xfer Total Points: 554 Average Rank: 30.778 gardyfan - 4 George Strait Junkie - 8 Glove Slap - 17 sabre14 – 19 collinkottke - 21 CoJoFan - 25 Cody Wants Out... - 26 austin – 26 Kanenrá:ke – 27 tim - 31 bboat11 – 33 Troublemaker - 34 Andy - 38 toomuchboy – 45 kw9461 - 45 castleoblivion26 – 48 someguy – 49 @xfer - 58 Our final song to miss the top 30 is "American Honky-Tonk Bar Association", the second single (and second #1) from 1993's In Pieces. The song started off lower here, but rose up into the 30s with some higher ranks in the middle, and nearly made the top 30. I've never been a huge fan of this one, but it is a classic Garth single. It was released during the time when (almost) everything he released flew to the top of the charts.

I'll stop here for the night. We're now at the half way point.
Any songs that you're surprised made the top 30? Didn't make the top 30?

Yeah I thought for sure this was a top 10 competitor honestly. Nothing truly surprises me to still be in but there's definite ones that I think should go before the top 20. Interesting thing is I may not have a good read of the lay of the land here since Garth isn't usually a much discussed artist on Pulse. Also "Ask Me How I Know" is the one single his comeback has given us that imo shows he's still got some good songs left in him.

#29 - In Another's EyesBillboard Country Airplay peak: #2 Highest Ranking: #4 someguyLowest Ranking : #57 AndyTotal Points: 524 Average Rank: 29.111 someguy – 4 collinkottke - 6 CoJoFan - 7 castleoblivion26 – 9 Cody Wants Out... - 15 austin – 16 Troublemaker - 20 @xfer - 26 bboat11 – 27 Kanenrá:ke – 29 toomuchboy – 33 tim - 39 Glove Slap - 39 sabre14 – 45 George Strait Junkie - 45 kw9461 - 51 gardyfan - 56 Andy - 57 At #29, we lose "In Another's Eyes", the duet with Trisha Yearwood. The song was released as the second single from Trisha's multi-platinum album Songbook: A Collection Of Hits, following "How Do I Live". Garth also included it on Sevens, though it wasn't considered a single from that album. The two of them were arguably at their commercial peak here, and the song flew up the charts, but got held at #2 by Shania Twain's 5-week #1, "Love Gets Me Every Time". Four people lose a top 10 here, but we also see two people lose songs in their bottom 10.

I didn't submit a non singles list, cause I didn't see the point, as they were not going to be ranked. Oh well.

#27 - Wrapped Up In YouBillboard Country Airplay peak: #5 Billboard Hot 100 peak: #46 Highest Ranking: #2 toomuchboyLowest Ranking : #58 bboat11Total Points: 509 Average Rank: 28.278 toomuchboy – 2 austin – 6 Kanenrá:ke – 7 Cody Wants Out... - 11 George Strait Junkie - 17 kw9461 - 19 gardyfan - 21 sabre14 – 25 Troublemaker - 27 Andy - 28 someguy – 34 Glove Slap - 34 CoJoFan - 36 collinkottke - 39 tim - 41 @xfer - 49 castleoblivion26 – 55 bboat11 – 58 toomuchboy is the tiebreaker here, as "Wrapped Up In You" tied with "To Make You Feel My Love" with 509 points. He was the highest ranker of both, but put "Wrapped Up In You" at #2, over his #3 ranking for "To Make You Feel My Love", which made the difference here. "Wrapped Up In You" was the lead single from 2001's Scarecrow. The album marked a steep decline in popularity from his previous studio album, Sevens, despite eventually being certified 5x platinum. At the time, it was marketed as his final album before going into retirement until his youngest daughter turned 18. "Wrapped Up In You" debuted at #22 on Billboard's country airplay chart, eventually peaking at #5. The song was also used in a Dr. Pepper commercial that Garth did in 2001.

#26 - She's Gonna Make ItBillboard Country Airplay peak: #2 Highest Ranking: #2 CoJoFanLowest Ranking : #51 TroublemakerTotal Points: 506 Average Rank: 28.111 CoJoFan - 2 kw9461 - 3 Kanenrá:ke – 11 @xfer - 19 Andy - 20 toomuchboy – 21 Cody Wants Out... - 23 someguy – 25 George Strait Junkie - 25 tim - 27 collinkottke - 31 austin – 35 castleoblivion26 – 38 sabre14 – 41 Glove Slap - 41 gardyfan - 44 bboat11 – 49 Troublemaker - 51 Surprisingly (to me, anyway) Sevens is Garth's first studio album released in the 1990s to be eliminated. "She's Gonna Make It", a #2 hit from 1998, leaves us at #26. The song is a classic Garth story song, looking at a divorce that was initiated by the man, but his wife is the one who is OK afterwards. It was always around the middle of the pack here. It didn't get all that many high rankings, outside of a #2 and a #3, but didn't get any many low ones, either. It only missed the top 50 on one list, where it placed at #51.

I'm not surprised about WUIY, but I wouldn't have expected "To Make You Feel My Love" that low.

I'll stop here for now, but at #25 the Ropin' The Wind theme continues, as we will lose our first single from it. Will it be "Rodeo", "Shameless", "What She's Doing Now", "Papa Loved Mama" or "The River"?

#25 - ShamelessBillboard Country Airplay peak: #1 Highest Ranking: #3 austinLowest Ranking : #61 sabre14Total Points: 497 Average Rank: 27.611 austin – 3 gardyfan - 9 someguy – 10 CoJoFan - 14 bboat11 – 15 collinkottke - 16 toomuchboy – 18 tim - 18 @xfer - 20 Andy - 22 castleoblivion26 – 28 Glove Slap - 31 George Strait Junkie - 36 Cody Wants Out... - 38 Troublemaker - 47 Kanenrá:ke – 55 kw9461 - 56 sabre14 – 61 One of the most polarizing songs of the rank down is "Shameless", the second single and first #1 from Garth's third album, Ropin' The Wind. Garth tells the story that he was once a member of the Columbia House music club, and then he went out on a long tour. When he returned, he had a number of unopened selections of the month to listen to. One of those was Storm Front, Billy Joel's 1989 album. Garth listened to it, and loved the song "Shameless". He checked, and it was never released as a single. Garth got in touch with Billy and asked if he could record it, and Billy gave him permission to. This always been one of my favourite Garth songs, and I think that Trisha's wonderful background vocal really elevates the song to a new level.

This song is one of the most unusual single releases of the last few decades. The song was originally included on Garth's second album, No Fences, which would go on to becoming one of the biggest selling albums of all time. It was never released as a single then, but in 2000, Garth decided to go back to the album from 1990, and release this one as a single. He recorded an updated vocal track, but some stations opted to play the original version. The song would make it to #7 as the fifth single from the album, a decade after the fourth single peaked. I'm surprised that it did so well here, but not disappointed because it is a great song.
