It's a little painful to see "Shameless" leaving already. There has always been something about that song that draws me in. The echoey production certainly helps a lot, as I am always a sucker for that kind of touch. But one of my favorite things is that this is a serious song, that also allows Garth's quirky personality to shine through. He is certainly an artist who seems to have the best results when he is pumping as much personality as possible into his music. There are times when his personality can make a song come across as annoying, and there are times when it can elevate a song and make is shine in a way that literally nobody else could ever do. "Shameless" is one of those songs that is made 1000x better thanks to his personality being poured into it. It also seems to be one that some people find annoying because of the way he sings it, but tbh I think that this song would be rather boring if just sung by your average Joe. This top 20 though OMG this is about to become REALLY painful! At this point the fluff is almost entirely gone, and it will become a bloodbath! I am pleasantly surprised to see "Learning To Live Again" and "When You Come Back To Me Again" still in this, as I have always loved both of those. I have always found them to be really underrated, but now they have lasted long enough to intersperse themselves amongst his most iconic hits, so I am very thrilled about that! Other than "That Ol' Wind", literally everything else remaining is a classic song that has been on the radio nonstop for basically my entire life!

#20 - When You Come Back To Me AgainBillboard Country Airplay peak: #21 Billboard AC Airplay peak: #29 Highest Ranking: #1 toomuchboy Lowest Ranking : #49 Kanenrá:keTotal Points: 461 Average Rank: 25.611 toomuchboy – 1 @xfer - 2 CoJoFan - 4 Cody Wants Out... - 6 bboat11 – 12 castleoblivion26 – 17 Troublemaker - 19 tim - 20 kw9461 - 23 gardyfan - 27 sabre14 – 31 Andy - 36 Glove Slap - 38 austin – 42 George Strait Junkie - 43 someguy – 44 collinkottke - 47 Kanenrá:ke – 49 Kicking off the top 20 is "When You Come Back To Me Again", from the soundtrack to the Dennis Quaid movie Frequency. The song was also later included on Garth's Scarecrow album. Just missing the top 20 on the airplay chart, it actually ranks higher here on the rankdown than it did on the weekly charts. It was also nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Original Song, and became one of Garth's only singles to chart on an airplay chart outside of the country format, reaching #29 on the AC chart. We also see our second #1 loss of the rankdown as toomuchboy loses his #1. This is also our first song to leave with every rank within the top 50. I was a little surprised by this one's popularity here. I thought it would rank in the 30s at best, and was surprised to see it in the top 20, probably moreso than any other song that made it.

"When You Come Back To Me Again" and "Learning To Live Again" are both exceptional songs! If asked to list Garth's best mid-tempo songs, these would immediately be the first two I thought of. These songs just both have such a perfectly dark, nostalgic mood to them, and there is a compelling earnestness to the way Garth delivers both of them.

I had a feeling the #1 would be mine. I'm grateful it made the top 20.

"Rodeo" is just such a classic Garth song. Overplayed to hell, but it definitely deserves to be this high based on impact alone! It has never been among my VERY favorites from him, but it is still one I jam to occasionally for the nostalgia factor.

We'll stop here for tonight. When we return, one of Garth's history making singles will leave us at #15.

“That Ol’ Wind” is such a terrific song. Great (clever) storytelling with some wonderful instrumentation and production to go along with it. I know it wasn’t the uptempo concert staple that many associate with Garth but that song should have way more popularity than it does. It was a decent sized hit too, peaking at #4 on Billboard and #1 on R&R.

I am so deluded, completely unaware which songs were popular in the US, since we don't get any country music in Mexico. So my perceptions are completely off. I thought When You Come Back To Me Again would be in the top 10, but I am pleasantly surprised That Ol' Wind is so high. Both, such wonderful songs that deserve top 10 status. Opposite to that, we have Rodeo. Um, it might be in my top 10 least favorite 90's songs from Garth. And to learn here that it was the lead single of the album! I wonder why it is popular, as to me, it isn't catchy.

It's such a unique and unconventional song, but the lyrics and melody are both top notch, making it one of my all-time favorites. Wishful thinking, but I was hoping it could sneak into the top 10.

I see I’ve got some catching up to do again!
“In Another’s Eyes” (#29) - This song really hasn’t aged well for me for whatever reason. I remember there being a lot of buzz around this when it first came out and I enjoyed it some back then, but I really have come to like it less over time.
“To Make You Feel My Love” (#28) - Garth does a great job with this song and I love the simplicity of it. This is also one of those time period songs for me as it always takes me back to the summer of ‘98.
“Wrapped Up In You” (#27) - This was charting in the fall/winter of 2001 when I first got to see Garth perform live down in South Texas where I lived at the time. He was performing a free show in South Padre Island that was televised live for a CBS special. He also had picked to perform a free show there to help benefit the area that was struggling due to a collapse in the only bridge that connected the island to the mainland. What I remember most about this concert is that the day before the weather was picture perfect but then a cold front moved in overnight it became bitterly cold and was raining. The concert was almost cancelled up to the last minute but Garth went on with the show after all. We stuck through the entire show but it made for quite a memory.
“Rodeo” (#18) - This has no business leaving so early into the top 20 as it’s easily one of Garth’s most iconic hits from the 90s. I did somewhat expect this to be a bit of a polarizing song and found it kind of funny that there were no rankings for this from #29 to #49...what a gap!
“Two Of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House” (#17) - This is another iconic song from Garth’s early 90’s string of hits. While it’s never been one of my favorite songs it’s a rather easy and fun song to listen to once in a while.
“That ‘Ol Wind” (#16) - I really wanted to find room inside my top 10 for this but it was already stacked so it fell just outside of that. I’ve long loved this song and was really hoping it would at least make the top 15 at a minimum.

The song's feat caused a lot of controversy when it first happened in September 2007. After entering at #1, it fell back to #8, and then #10. It remained in the top 10 for weeks and weeks, eventually climbing back up to #2 in December 2007. It became Garth's first #1 i 9 years, since "To Make You Feel My Love" in 1998, and was his only #1 of the 2000s. It also served as the lead single from his greatest hits album The Ultimate Hits.

And with that, the 2000s join the 2010s as an eliminated decade. Only hits from the 1980s and the 1990s remain. Next, we will see the 1980s lose their first hit. Since he only had two singles peak in that decade, there isn't much to choose from. Will we lose "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)" or "If Tomorrow Never Comes"?

This song was part of a string of 13 top 10 singles, the longest streak of his career. This to me is classic Garth, and I'm glad to see it do well here. It was off to a rocky start initially, but ended up solidifying its place in the top 15. It looked like a possible top 10 contender for a little while, but ended up falling short at #14.

"If Tomorrow Never Comes" was part of a 13 song top 10 streak for Garth at the beginning of his career. And it's not alone in missing the top 10. In fact, every song still to come that misses the top 10 is part of that 13 song streak.

We know that our final top 10 miss is one of the 13 consecutive top 10 hits that kicked off Garth's career. That means that "That Summer", "Ain't Goin' Down (Til The Sun Comes Up)", "Standing Outside The Fire", "Callin' Baton Rouge" and "The Beaches Of Cheyenne" are in the top 10 for sure. One of the following will miss out: "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)", "The Dance", "Friends In Low Places", "Unanswered Prayers", "The Thunder Rolls" or "The River". Which one will it be?

#11 - Friends In Low PlacesBillboard Country Airplay peak: #1 Highest Ranking: #1 gardyfanLowest Ranking : #43 @xfer Total Points: 315 Average Rank: 17.5 gardyfan - 1 George Strait Junkie - 2 collinkottke - 3 Troublemaker - 4 someguy – 7 austin – 7 bboat11 – 10 sabre14 – 14 toomuchboy – 15 tim - 17 castleoblivion26 – 19 Cody Wants Out... - 21 Kanenrá:ke – 23 kw9461 - 24 Glove Slap - 32 Andy - 35 CoJoFan - 38 @xfer - 43 Our final song to miss the top 10 is "Friends In Low Places", the lead single to Garth's second album No Fences and, arguably, the song that he is best known for. Written by Dewayne Blackwell and Earl Bud Lee, Garth recorded the demo of the song, and eventually was able to record it and put it on an album. Mark Chesnutt also recorded the song during this time, but did not release it as a single. The song was extremely popular for Garth, hitting #1 in only 8 weeks, and remaining there for 4. It also won Single of the Year awards from both the CMA and the ACM. The song remains a concert staple for Garth, where he performs a third verse to the song that does not appear on the album version. I was surprised that this missed the top 10. It was on track for it most of the time, and was even a contender for the top 5 during some of the process. It received a string of low ranks at the end, which ultimately led to it being pushed out of the top 10.

I'll try to do it sooner, but I probably won't be able to get to the top 10 until Tuesday night. In the meantime, any predictions for how it will play out?
#10 is a song that was not in contention for the top 10 really at all during the process. It wasn't even looking like a top 20 for a lot of it. But, some really high ranks in the last third of the submission process really boosted it, and it was able to overtake "Friends In Low Places" at the very end.

I am so happy Callin Baton Rouge has made it this far. I had no idea how well received it was, so that’s a pleasant surprise.
