Just like the thread reads. Here is were you will find all my favorite songs of 2018. You have a wide variety of Metal, Rock, Alt, Synthpop, IndiePop, K-Pop, Indierock, and a bunch of 80's icons returning with new music. I'll start off with a few songs from the HOT list that didn't chart, but could rebound in 2019. The I'll commence the top 150+ of the year. You'll get Chart stats, Fan sleeve art and Music videos galor . I like music videos.

Here we go with a few extras from the HOT list that just missed the top 50 and upgraded 60. Some Videos and cover art to make it more exciting.
lovelytheband - broken (HOT LIST peak #51) Let's start off with this song. It's the most polarizing song of my chart year. It sounded decent at first listen, then a little better each week. I was sure I would chart it once the music videos came out. The one with the two girls is even better than the official, Then it just started to sound sillier and sillier with each listen. Truth be told I only dug it while watching the MV, so I finally cut it lose. Interesting point is that this song peaked at my #51 slot before I extended my chart to 60 positions. Oh well it just wasn't meant to chart.
Muse - Thought Contagion (Rock Version)(HOT LIST peak #53) Next we have this song, but it's not the original version. This is a rock version that I came across on Youtube with a more Muse guitar vibe present. This actually made the song sound great to my ears. The guy doing the guitar work is Symon Iero. He did wonders for this song. It also peaked just outside the Top 50.
Chromeo - Juice(HOT LIST peak #54) Up next is the indiepop band Chromeo. This one originally caught my interest for the cool and funny MV. The style of the song is a lot like Capital Cities disco vibe.
Sonamoo - Friday Night (HOT LIST peak #60) Up next I got one for the K-Pop fans. You know you are out there. I prefer K-Pop to U.S. pop because of the vocals and big production sounds of the instruments. This one has a some cool R&B vibes in the chorus and a very catchy bassline throughout the song.
Fall Out Boy - Church(HOT LIST peak #72) After a bunch of failed attempts it actually looked like I would chart FOB in 2018. I initially liked this song and kept it on my HOT LIST for several weeks before fizzleing out on it.
Great News - WONDERFAULT (HOT LIST peak #56) I love indiepop with 80's vibes. This one initially gave me big Tears For Fears vibes. You can hear a little of "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" in the guitar works. What killed this songs' vibe on the LIST is new music from the actual Tears For Fears. You will run into that song in my Top 100 of 2018.
Alex Cameron - Runnin' Outta Luck(HOT LIST peak #53) My last HOT LIST extra for tonight is from Alex Cameron. Alex writes songs for The Killers, something that is very evident in this songs melody. Here is a song that also had its chart life cut short because of actual Killers' music finding its way into my top 50. I love the line that says "Your'e a stripper out of luck". You also get some really epic dance moves from Alex in the Music Video.
Stitched Up Heart - It's So Easy(HOT LIST peak #56) This is one of my favorite female fronted rock bands of the past few years. Three top 10 hits later, I was sure to chart a fourth single of their debut album. You could say DIAMANTE stole their thunder.
picture hosting sites U2 - The Blackout(HOT LIST peak #63) This could have been the second song I charted from Songs of Experience. It started out climbing with a bullet, then lost its way just around the top 60.
A Perfect Circle - So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish(#57 debut)
Up next is one of my newest adds. I still have high hopes for this one on Active. Its slowed down a little, so decided to debut it this week. Its easily the best song I've ever heard from this band. Very epic and quite different from their other songs. I foresee this being one of my top hits of 2019?
The Horrors - World Below (HOT LIST peak?) Here is a band that scored one of the biggest #1 songs in my 2018 year charts. This second single just got lost on my HOT LIST. I can't even recall giving it a peak. I think it just disappeared? I might just bring it back for round two in 2019?
Gorillaz - Tranz (HOT LIST peak#58) Next is a song from a band I love to tank on Rank Downs. As of now its still on my HOT LIST, but not doing as well as when I first added it. They also seemed to have upgraded themselves into Zombies/Humanoids, which makes them sound better too. "Tranz" pretty much a career best and I wish it had charted on the Actual Alt charts. I still dig that New Wave vibe tho.
Maren Morris - Rich(HOT LIST peak #52) How about a little Country vibe from Maren Morris? "80's Mercedes" was a big hit on my charts, so this one looked destined to be her second charting single. This is another song that could have gotten chart action if I had extended the chart to 60 positions back then?
DIAMANTE - I'm Sorry/Lo Siento(HOT LIST peak #77) Last but not least is the act who scores 5 songs on my YE rank down. This is a gorgeous Powerballad showing up as track #5 and #14 on her debut album. She made the MV for the English version, but I love the Spanish version all the same. I'll surely bring this one back once "Haunted" has peaked.
Ok I've tallied up the positions and we will be covering 202 songs. Every song charted gets a slot so last week's debuts will start of the chart at #'s 202 and 201. I will start #200 tomorrow night and go on through New Year's Day. I will be taking breaks to party hard inbetween, but we will get to #1. the number next to chart position is Number of week's on chart= red. song's highest peak is in ().
01Lordi - Naked In My Cellar(60)
Lordi is a Swedish ,shock rock ,Metal, band who's highest charting song on my list was in 2006. "Hard Rock Hallelujah" from the L.P. 'The Arockalypse' hit #29. They also appeared as the villains in the movie "Dark Floors". Also I apologize for the video being in Black N white, but Some asshole flagged the MV on youtube so I had to grab from another channel.
From the 'Bad Reputation" movie Soundtrack here is 80's icon Joan Jett and her band The Blackhearts with the first single "Fresh Start". I've been listening to Joan Jett since her The Runaways years, and this song shows her back in form. Joan will return in 2019 at a much higher position.
Lordi's from Finland not Sweden. Hard Rock Hallelujah will never be forgotten in Europe. ^^
I was going to say this ! And Hard Rock Hallelujah will never be forgotten for the Eurofans ***
Germany's biggest music tv channel Viva will shut down in 8 days after 25 years and for the last few weeks they used a few hours every day to show music videos from a single year. A few days ago they showed videos from 2006 and I had the biggest laugh of the week when they played pre-puberty Tokio Hotel and Lordi back to back.
Post by Doc Indie Party Rock on Dec 23, 2018 23:37:11 GMT -5
Thanks for the clarifications. Mixing Sweden with Finland is just as bad as calling Pagan Metal, Viking Metal. Yes "Hard Rock Hallelujah" is a classic but even bigger on my charts was "The Chainsaw Buffet".

SOUND THE TRUMPETS THE TIME HAS COME TO OFFICIALLY BEGIN COUNTING DOWN MY TOP 200 SONGS OF 2018.
02The Night Flight Orchestra - Turn To Miami (58)
Let's start with a quick trip to the 80's. Unlike Lordi, The Night Flight Orchestra is from Sweden. They have been with Nuclear Blast label since 2007, but instead of the typical Metal genres the label is known for they dish out the Progressive/Funk Rock/AOR vibes that take us back to the "Miami Vice" soundtrack. Very catchy basslines and melodies secures this new song a place on my YE list.
02Kitten - Pink Champagne(55)
This Los Angeles based band has been scoring hits on my chart since 2011. This year they released the E.P. Pink Champagne. This is the second single I'm charting from them this year. This is just a little taste of what's in store for them in 2019.
02Wild Nothing - Letting Go(53)
next is the Indierock band Wild Nothing. This is the first time I chart the band. I discovered this song on Soundcloud and immediately flipped for the sound of "Letting Go". At just two weeks on my chart, this song will be back in 2019. This is the type of song I think would prove very popular among Pulse rockers if it ever found its way onto the actual Alternative charts.
Moving on we step into K-Pop territiory, because there is always gonna be some sort of pop songs on my chart. GFRIEND scored a big hit on my chart in 2017 with the ultra catchy "Fingertip". This year they returned with the equally danceable "Sunny Summer". This one plenty of 80's dance pop vibes and could have been one of the Summer's biggest hits. The problem was that it came out right when Summer ended.
03Leon Else - What I Won't Do(56)
Next is the indie pop artist Leon Else. This dance pop song is from 2017, but after discovering it on soundcloud I got hooked to its 80's vibes.Leon also has great vocal range. perfect for a melodic monster like this.
The third release off "Always Ascending" L.P. is getting ready to wreck havok on my 2019 charts. Later on the chart we will run into The Title track and "Feel The Love". Making this one of the band's biggest year's on my YE chart. 2009 was also a huge year for the band. That's when I charted "Lucid Dreams" , No You Girls" and "Ulysses".
02Bring Me The Horizon - Mantra(51)
"Mantra" quickly rose to the top of my New Metal Music Charts, so I decided to cross it over to the HOT LIST. This song has some really great guitar works and cathcy chorus. Its only the second song I chart from the band. The first time was way back in 2013 with the song "Sleepwalking". I think "Mantra" will prove to be their biggest hit to date. At least for me it is.
This year the Swedish hard Rock band Grand Design released their fourth album. The band models their design to the 80's Glam Metal style of Def Leppard, so obviously I've charted no less than 8 singles since I first discovered them in 2009. When this year's album first graced my CD player I debuted four songs on my chart in one week. This is the title track.
04A Flock Of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song (With the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra) (54)
No introduction needed for this New Wave classic. The band just decided to amp it up a bit with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra by their side. Still a great song, but with some beautiful added strings.
03Death Cab For Cutie - Northern Lights (48)
The second charting single off Death Cab For Cutie's "Thank You for Today", is striking all the right chords with me. Very uptempo, and the pianos flow beautifully with the song's melody. This could prove to be one of their biggest hits on my chart come 2019.
Post by Doc Indie Party Rock on Dec 25, 2018 17:28:02 GMT -5
04Muse - Pressure(2 weeks #49)
After three forgettable songs. "Pressure" finally shows Muse back in form. It still sounds more "Clones" than "Black Holes and Revelations", but that's not really a bad thing, when you consider how much guitar this songs has compared to the three prior single. We will all be seeing Rocket Baby Doll back in 2019.
04Grand Design - Love Shouldn't Hurt(48)
Grand Design returns with the actual second single from the album. This one has that Def Leppard Powerballad style, so this one will keep rising in 2019.
04YUNGBLUD - I Love You, Will You Marry Me(45)
The info I got is from Wikipedia and it explains a bit about him and this song, which graced my chart for a few weeks. "Dominic Harrison, who performs as YUNGBLUD, is an English alternative rock musician from Doncaster.
Yungblud has expressed himself through his music as a "socially conscious artist unafraid of delivering genre-bending protest songs."
His song "I Love You, Will You Marry Me" describes the true story of a man named Jason who proposed to a woman named Clare Middleton through graffiti on Park Hill that ended up being heavily commercialized and profited by apartment owners, but the woman died, and the man is homeless.
This is the fourth album track I charted from Grand Design's 2018 album. I was guilty of doing what Billboard does when a Drake album is released by charting various album tracks . This one has again Deff Leppard vibes, but more along the lines of the "Hysteria" singles.
06Seven Day Sleep - Red Lipstick Murders(55)
Seven Day Sleep is a Los Angeles Alt hard rock/metal trio. This song is the first single off their forthcoming EP A Home for Disgusting Fairies. The band's sound reminded me of a mix between Sumo Cyco and My Chemical Romance, easily scoring them their first hit on my HOT LIST.
06Imagine Dragons - Zero (54)
Up next is a band you probably never expected to find on my HOT LIST again? This song appears on the "origins" album, but has gained more recognition from appearing on the soundtrack for Disney's Animi "Ralph Breaks The Internet. It's a bouncy bop and really sounds nothing like their latest singles. In Fact this one reminds me of Blue October's big hit "I Hope You're Happy". Especially in the chorus, which is why I decided to chart it. As of now the song is still climbing. Just how high only 2019 knows?
07Real Friends - From The Outside(2 weeks #55)
This is the first single off the band's album "Composure". The style is poppunk. A style that has all but vanished from the Alternative charts now a days, so I was pretty excited to find bands like this and Neck Deep are still releasing the goods.
06Capital Cities - Venus & River(54)
Capital Cities released their album Solarize this year. On it was their last Alt charting song "Vowels" and this Disco bop. The band still puts out indiepop with a more 80's acceptable vibe so it quickly found its way onto my 2018 charts where it peaked just outside of the top 50. One thing their album had besides bops like this was great album art for the singles.
09Twenty One Pilots - Jumpsuit(53)
This band is not exactly a staple act on my charts. The only other time I charted them was 2012's "Holding On To You". I imediatley found "Jumpsuit" interesting for its heavier guitar sound. As of now the song still graces my HOT LIST , but still has to make its way onto the top 50, so we could be seeing this band on my 2019 YE charts as well.
08 Indochine - 2033(2 weeks #52)
Indochine is a French New Wave band formed way back in 1981. They have a very impressive discography with classics like "Tes Yeux Noirs", "3e sexe/3 Nuits par Semaine" and their #1 song "J'ai Demandé à la Lune". To my surprise they released an album in 2017. I'm catching up by charting this album track simply titled "2033".
Post by Doc Indie Party Rock on Dec 25, 2018 19:10:14 GMT -5
For these next 10 reveals I will not try to center the images nor MVs because no matter how hard I try , the f**king things just appear where they want to.. So this will look more like my weekly chart instead that all songs get vinyl art and music videos.
The British Heavy Metal icons released their 18th album "Firepower" this year. They have been around since the 1970's. Thier biggest hit on my charts has been "Breaking The Law" because its the fiercest yet catchiest single of theirs'. No Glam or Hair Metal era for them. They have been consistent with Heavy Metal. Rob Halford did perform with Baby Metal tho. So he does have some Pop Metal history now. You can view that performance on youtube. Both this, and "Lightning Strike were #1 songs on my Metal Charts, but this is the song that crossed over to my all genre top 60.
05NKOTB, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, NBN, and SaltNpepa - 80's Baby(47)
Here is a team up that took everyone by surprise. The best of the late 80's in pop music got together for bit of Funky vibes. I wish there had been an actual music video for this complete with 80's dance moves.
I've been charting songs from their album "Handle With care" for a few years now. This song has a really strong New Wave indeirock vibes that bands like The Hundred Days and King-No-One and thier sound is inspired by 80's bands like New Order,Joy Division and The Cure. This is the style of Indierock that I flip for. The good news is, they released a new EP this year called "This Is Six", and it's there best effort yet, and with song titles like "Burn Like Bowie"www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNBmDgUYjbE and "Dragon's Blood" I'm pretty sure we will be seeing more on the band in 2019.
05White Reaper - Judy French(46)
From their album "The World's Best American Band" this Powerpop band scored their first big hit on my charts. The song was incredibly catchy and the music video features the gorgeous Alexandra Daddario whom I thought was the actual guitarist for the band. LOL! , but this is still a great rocker.
04Hell In The Club - We Are On Fire(44)
Moving on we approach one of the many loud in your face hard rock songs that found their way onto my charts in 2018. HELL IN THE CLUB is on Frontiers Records label. The new home to 80's icons like Rick Springfield and Night Ranger. This band's styles range from Hard Rock to Dance Electronica. "We Are On Fire" has more of the Hard Rock, Bon Jovi, anthem like, scream along vibe to it; which I screamed along to for about a month.
06Panic! At The Disco - Saturday Night (Say Amen) (45)
This band is never far away from my charts. Even if may take a few listens to get into some of their songs they eventually find their way onto my weekly top 60. This was the first release off their album "Pray For The Wicked". It eventually also payed the way for the much bigger hit "High Hopes" which we will run into later in the chart.
06SUNMI - Siren (K-Pop) (44)
SUNMI was originally from the K-pop girl group Wonder Girls. That band scored a few hits on my top 10. With the breakup of the group it's members are now pursuing solo careers. SUNMI's first single is called "Siren" and it's a nice mix of modern as well as old school 80's NRG dance, and it has an infectious chorus beginning with the line "Get Away Out Of My Face" This one is also destined to be the first big K-Pop hit on my new 2019 charts.
05Robert DeLong - Revolutionary(44)
"Revolutionary" is the second single I'm charting from Robert DeLong. The first was the very New Wavey and stylish song called "Don't Wait Up". That one went top ten on my charts for it's Thomas Dolbey vibes. This new song also has a bit of that vibe, and I really wish it would have become a bigger hit on the actual Alternative charts. For that same reason I kept overlooking it and so it took a while to finally enter my chart. It's currently stuck in the mid 40's but could rise again in 2019?
05Paramore - Caught In The Middle(43)
Paramore kept their presence strong on my chart throughout 2018. This is the latest single off "After Laughter". It's currently just outside my top 40 hits of the week. The music video features a lot of cool effects and colors. I also own a pair of those checkered Vans she wears in the video.
06Avatar - The King Wants You (46)
Next up is a band from my favorite new Metal Home Sweden. This is the first charting single off "Avatar Country" the interesting thing about this album is that all the song titles carry the word "king" in them. I still haven't previewed the entire album which I should because I'm itching for new Avatar music.
Band-Maid is a J- Metal band from Japan who usually specialize in pop Metal. Their stage look is modeled after the Akihabara maid cafe hostesses. This is a band I just discovered this year, yet they have been around since 2014, so out of the three songs making my YE 2018 chart, one of them is actually from 2014. "Daydreaming" however is from 2018's "World Domination" album. The reason I charted this song was because I found it amazing how they can go from a Heavy Metal band to a straight out Poprock at the roll of a "Dice".
07Dear Rouge - Boys & Blondes(2 weeks #45)
This year The Canadian band Dear Rouge returned to my charts with the first single of their album PHASES. The reason I loved this song is because it reminded me of 80's New Wave Blondie. The song peaked at #15 on the Canada Rock chart, and #6 on Canada Alt.
08W.A.S.P. - Hold On To My Heart(42)
This American Heavy Metal band fronted by Blackie Lawless has been around since the early 80's, yet this Powerballad of their's is fast becoming their biggest single on my charts. The song is a rerecorded version from their 1992 album "The Crimson Idol". In fact they revamped the songs ,re released it this year ,and renamed it "ReIdolized (The Soundtrack to the Crimson Idol)". The music video I'm posting is the original 1992 version.
06Cheap Trick - The Summer Looks Good On You (3 weeks #45)
Up next is the forgotten Summer single from the newly inducted into the Rock N Roll hall of fame iconic Band. This song had all the right ingredients to be a big summer smash, yet flopped hard on radio. My guess is poor promotion. No album in sight, no Music Video. It still managed to visit my weekly charts for a month, but I also burnt out on it pretty quick. Oh well, they can't all be hits.
07Cary Brothers - Crush(3 weeks #44)
Crush is an Idiepop song I first heard on Soundcloud. It's off their 80's infused 2018 album "Bruises". Honestly, after previewing the album I didn't much of an 80's vibe. His vocals do not really have the 80's tones, but I found a nice melodic vibe to this song.
10The Beaches - T- Shirt(45)
Quite a few of us charted The Beaches this year. I'm guilty of enjoying Canadian Rock bands since the 80's , so this rocker quickly found its way onto my weekly chart.
07Wayfarers - Be Careful What You Wish For (42)
How many went to see this year's horror flick "Wish Upon" raise your hand. Really? Just me? Well truth be told, the movie kinda stunk, but one good thing was this Wayfarer's song off the movie's soundtrack. Wayfarer's already had scored a huge #1 hit on 2017 YE chart with "Kings" , so I was ready for another dose. The song wasn't as strong as "Kings" but at least it gave me a reason to create a new fan made cover art.
06Foo Fighters - The Sky Is A Neighborhood (2 weeks #42)
Who doesn't love the Foo Fighters? This was the second release off "Concrete and Gold". A decent rocker. No real fierce vibe to it, but Dave Grohl always sounds great. For me the hit off the record is still "Run", but being a Foo Fighters fan I gave this one some spin for a few months.
A certain 2016 soundtrack album spawned three big hits onto my 2018 chart. The album in question is "Fly'- Songs Inspired by the film EDDIE THE EAGLE". The interesting thing about the album is that it featured 80's icons with newly recorded songs made to sound like the 80's. Taron Egerton who starred in the movie did a great job with vocals on this song. This was the only song that has a MV, but you can see all 80's icons like Martin Frye, Peter Cox and Paul Young, just to name a few appear in the video.
07Paulina Rubio - Suave Y Sutil (41)
Up next is one of the newer songs on my chart. It's the 5th single off her 2018 album "Deseo". It's also the song that clicks with me the most ,and reminds me of her older pop sound. The ones with the strong woman themes. "Suave Y Sutil" will surely return in 2019.
This is the second song I've seen on another person's countdown where I'm gonna say, "No matter how hard I try to keep up with the groups I like, I always seem to miss a few". Glad you posted this one.
Cheap Trick - The Summer Looks Good On You
Glad I'm not the only one who liked this one!
The Beaches - T- Shirt
Hearing them for the first time now, and I dig it!

I find new music from bands like Dear Rouge and Beaches off the Canadian Rock charts Daryl the Beryl posts every week. I think they are even better than the Us Alt/ Active charts. A lot of great under appreciated bands from Canada.

07Bishop Briggs - Dream(40)
This is the first song I really enjoyed from Bishop Briggs. Also the first time I decided to chart her. The style is very different from her norm. Most of her songs sound a bit angry to me, but this one hits a pleasant vibe that sounds even better if you imagine the band members gathering up behind her are actually performing the song with her.
05Fickle Friends - Bite(36)
Fickle Friends finally released their full length album this year. 16 songs on it , including a few I've been charting since 2016. "Bite" is one of the new tracks that immediately clicked with me with its bouncy Indiepop style. This and maybe a few more off that album will return in my 2019 charts.
08The Zolas - Bombs Away(38)
The Zolas are another Canadian based Indie Rock band I've been charting for a few years. This is the first single off the yet TBA album. The first thing I got from this song was that Cars Powerpop vibe. The vocals are Fountains Of Wayne like and if you know how much I loved "Stacey's Mom", then you know they are perfect Alt vibe for me.
07Godsmack - When Legends Rise(37)
Next is the hard rock band with a rather impressive history on my charts. I didn't like the subdued "Bulletproof" at all, but a really dig the percussion on this song. It reminds of of there past hits like "Voo Doo". I could have done without so many "whoa whoa's", but this is still a fierce Godsmack song. The only thing missing now is an actual MV.
Who doesn't remember "Dancing On Glass". One of my favorite songs of the past few years. This year they released the LP "Hyperion". It one of the new albums I still plan to preview. The actual first single(I forgot the name) flopped pretty hard on the Alt charts, but the one that caught my interest was this 80's throwback to George Michael's "Freedom 90". I kept this one my chart long enough just to see if Alt would eventually pick it up, but they never did. Great song.
09Saint Motel - Sweet Talk(2 weeks #40)
From St. Lucia we go to Saint Motel. I'm actually starting to chart a brand new single of their's that will return in 2019. This one was the last track off "Saintmotelevision" I wanted to chart. I also waited patiently for this one to become a single , because it had all the right ingredients for a bonafide hit, but it never did.
This year I began charting more AAA only songs. Especially since a lot of AAA music had more groove than the Alt chart. If you single out all the AAA songs I charted this year, you notice a certain 80's vibe they all share. This song with the 70's like "whoo whoo's" in the chorus felt extremely melodic.
08The Neighborhood - Scary Love(37)
The "Sweater Weather" band returned this year with a rather groovy single. Actually The Neighborhood has been making regular appearances on my YE chart since they first hit the music scene. This song was really good but not very memorable by the end of the year.
13 Confidence Man - Bubblegum(43)
Up next is the Australian Elektro Pop band Confidence Man. Right away I got 80's vibes from this band. The style was like a sort of Novelty dance song. Think of the 70's act M. Almost same kind of vocal delivery with some female vocals added for melody. The song stubbornly stayed on my chart for 13 weeks despite only reaching #43. This is certainly a band to look out for on my 2019 charts.
10Stone Temple Pilots - Roll Me Under (42)
Ending this set are the Stone temple Pilots with the second single off their 2018 self titled LP. Jeff Gutt does a great job taking the lead on vocals, and even resembles Scott's tones, but I might be just a tad tainted with Scott's Weiland actual vocals. I still went out and got this album tho. A lot of great songs that sound even better on my stereo.
I've been charting this Alternative Metal, Pop Punk Rock ,Dancehall, Screamo, and every genre under the table band since 2011. They are mainly a singles band with a big fanbase on youtube and cover horror and gore themes in the music videos. The one of the reasons I love this band. "Undefeated" was released this year and I love the way Skye Sweetnam , who goes by the name Sever just screams her way through this song, but at the same time keeping it as melodic as a song can be.
09Daryll Hall & John Oates with Train - Philly, Forget Me Not (37)
We are up to the big collaboration with Hall & Oates and Train. There are two versions of this song. The studio version with just a little too much Auto tune that neither of these singers need, and the live version with no effects. That's the version I charted.
11Miss Caffeina - Detroit(38)
In 2017 this band scored big on my YE list. This is third single off their album of the same name that I charted. Almost all their songs have a different vibe. "Mira Como Vuelo" was straight out Spanish Rock, "Acido" had the Indiepop vibes and this one is more straight Indierock with Alternative elements.
13The 1975 - TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME(39)
The 1975 have a new album out and this is the second album track I'm charting. It took a while, but its finally making waves in my top 40. The fact they have an actual song on the Alt charts makes me wish I had waited before charting this one. This one is a lot of sing along fun and the MV features Matty at his all time crazy fun mode.
07Walk The Moon - One Foot(35)
Up next is one of the biggest songs on the Alternative YE chart. This is a decent song, but it sounded nothing like the massive "Shut Up and Dance". I also got into it late in the game, but also got rid of it way before the actual chart. The best part for me is that NRG mid breakdown. I wish that style had been used all throughout the song. Especially in the verses. The chorus is great, but I'm not a fan of dropping the music in the verses. Now a days I like the song a lot more than when I was charting it. Oh well...
10BROODS - Peach(36)
Another one of my favorite Indiepop bands is set to release a new album in 2019. "Peach" is the first single, but its already in my top 40. I like this band, cuz they have their own Indiepop sound and stick with it.
Something I do is chart album tracks from older albums. AFI is one of my favorite bands, so naturally I wanted one more single off the Blood album. This song always gave me a Cure vibe, so I knew I would get around to charting it. FYI AFI actually have new album out now called "The Missing Man".
12Milo Green - Move(34)
I find their description interesting so I got this off Wkipedia. "Milo Greene is a self-described cinematic indie pop band that formed in Los Angeles, California. Milo Greene is a quartet, with three lead singers. Band members Robbie Arnett, Graham Fink, and Marlana Sheetz share lead and backing vocal duties, often switching instruments during performances with Curtis Marrero on percussion. Whatever Cinematic Indie pop maybe, I like what I hear in this song. Reminds me of the Motels. This one already fell off the AAA chart but I'm keeping it for a much longer chart run in 2019. Adult Contemporary never sounded so good.
10SISTER - Carved In Stone(35)
Time for another of Swedish Metal Bands I discovered on youtube this year. This song has a cool Skid Row/Guns N' Roses vibe with a bit of a Black Metal look. hard to think this song might have made the HOT 100 back in 1989, but it probably would have.
04TheBlack Moods - Bella Donna(28)
The last song in this set is the latest in the Rebirth of the Led Zeppelin sound. The band are The Black Moods and they really hit that hard Rock vibe on "Bella Donna". This song is also currently in the Active top 40. I only wish it would climb faster.

Tonight I'll post numbers until I get hungry. Going for 15.
06SYML - Clean Eyes (2 weeks #31)
This is one of the new songs on my weekly chart. I immediately fell for the 80's New Wave vibe of this one. Think of the songs I chart from DREAMCAR,El Ultimo Vecino, and you know this is my preferred Alt vibe. Imagine my surprise to find out that this band also did that coma inducing "Where's My Love" song? . Anyway I plan to keep "Clean Eyes" on my chart a long time. Just in case its the only good song they have?
12Tom Petty - Keep A Little Soul (35)
This year we lost Tom Petty. He was also one of my favorite 80's performers. His greatest hits box set was released this year and off it some new never released songs appear. "Keep A Little Soul was one of them. It went on to become a top 3 hit on AAA charts. Adria Petty was responsible for putting the video for "Keep A Little Soul" together.
11Interpol - The Rover (33)
This year Interpol released "Marauder". It spawned the minor hit single "The Rover". A good song which should have been a lot bigger on The Alt charts than it was. It's witnessing actions like these that have made us realize that the days of old school Alternative music are long gone.
13Monowhales -Take It Back (36)
Continuing the strong Canadian bands vibe on my chart are The Monowhales. I also came across this one on The Canada Rock charts, and I'm glad I did, because it would be a crime for me to miss out charting songs like this. This song is very NRGetic with a strong Powerpop vibe. A good looking band with even better sounds.
14Metric - Dark Saturday(36)
Let's keep the Canadian Vibe going with another band very similar to Monowhales. They also have the indierock/New Wave/Synthpo style. The difference Metric has been around since 1998 putting out classic like "Breathing Under Water" and "Help I'm Alive" as well as fan favorites like "Gimmi Sympathy" and "Monster Hospital"."Dark Saturday" is a catchy melodic Indie rock song that also should have been a hit on U.S. Alt.
12 Shinedown - Devil(34)
Shindown also released an album in 2018. We were promised a harder edge sound, and it seemed like they were coming through on their word with this first single. It s still way more subdued that their "The Sound Of Madness" material, but it still rocks. As always people will start comparing this to Imagine Dragons with harder guitars and then things go downhill. I start noticing the absence of a killer hook bass line, and my initial high disappears. The fierce performance in the music video kept this one on my charts a while longer, but I didn't feel it should be Top 10 metal. Much less a #1 song.
04Def Leppard - We All Need Christmas(26)***
Who would have ever thought we would get a Christmas theme song from Def Leppard? But that's exactly what we got in 2018. The good news is that this is an amazing Christmas ballad. It borrows a little from their past hits like "Long Long Way To Go" and two Steps Behind". The song's melody is kind of a border line tear jerker too. As of this week the song is still racing up my charts and leaps into the top 10. The official music video was finally released this past week and it features edits from all the submitted lips sync fan made videos. Damn! I should have submitted, and I have a killer Def Leppard jersey too.
Next we got the San Diego based Indie rock band. Their style consists of Power pop ,Dancerock and popst punk. The song "Angry" really struck the right chords with me becuse it sounds like Spanish Rock vibe which of course manes 80's vibes too.
Next is the English Indiepop band Everything Everything. This band also geta quite the Buzz on our PULSE forums. They almost broke out on U.S. alt with "Can't Do", but Alt radio dropped the ball. The song I liked was Everything Everything, but I advise you to check out the LP "A Fever Dream". It has a lot of good songs. One for just about any Alternative fan to choose from.
14Josh Todd and The Conflict - Story of My Life(33)
Up next is one of PULSE favorites bands ever. Actually Buckcherry is quite the opposite, but they are one of my favorites Post/Glam/Sleaze bands around. Josh Todd and the Conflict are basically Buckcherry singing under another alias. This was a minor top 50 on Active, but if you wanted to see it perform better you really had to visit my charts. This actually is a great rock song. I just think Active radio got sick of Josh's F Bomb attitude. Even I have to admit that E.P "F U C K" was garbage. They good news is Buckcherry have a new LP titles "Warpaint" ready for 2019.
12George Ezra - Paradise(31)
Ohoh. Up next we have one of those "did you ever think Doc Indie Party Rock would chart" acts. George Ezra has been charting on Alt for a few years, but I never got into his vibe. Surprisingly enough this didn't chart on Alt ,and I end up loving it. Hmm.... Well to me it sounded like a bonafide bop...and who doesn't love a bop? I also realized I actuauly like George's vocal tones. Very unique and stays away from travesties like Auto tune.
10Crazy Lixx - Wild Child (2 weeks #32)
Crazy Lixx are a Swedish Glam/Hair Metal band who are one of the premier bands who keep the Glam Metal alive. Not only the songs but their videos are pure 80's fun. I have been charting Crazy Lixx since 2010, and I don't intend to stop anytime soon. Not with rock jams like this one coming out every year.
14GENTS - Love Is Tears(2 weeks #33)
Not only for my Metal vibe am I turning to Europe for support, but also for my New Wave/Synthpop vibes. Denmark is where we travel to for the 80's vibes of GENTS. Think of it as trip to 1985. Perfect vocals, perfect synth vibes. This song made such a decent dent on my charts, that I plan to chart another GENTS song in 2019.
12Paramore - Fake Happy(28)
We return to the U.S for my next Alternative Act. The return of Paramore with their "After Laughter" album got mixed reviews from some of the fans. It showcased more of an Indeipop sound than an Poppunk, but truthfully Paramore have been Pop from the start. The important thing is the songs are all great. This song actually became a minor hit on Alt late 2017. I kept it in a while longer into 2018. I made a few Fan Made sleeves for the song. This is the one that got the most attention.
Another of my favorite Rock bands is Nickelback, so naturally I charted not one, but two more tracks off "Feed The Machine". This song is one from their fiercer side of music. A great song that should have been a better hit on Active. I blame it all on the controversial "Mandela Effect"
09 Smashing Pumpkins - Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)(2 weeks #27)
Keeping the good old Alternative vibe alive on my charts are the Smashing Pumpkins with this "Would have been ,but in the end wasn't because Alt chart is confused ,comeback hit" for the band. The songs takes you back to that "1979" sound, and Billy Corgan sounds just as great as ever. The music video came out around Halloween, so you have a Halloween scare theme. BTW, if you ever wonder what happened to Sugar Ray? He is is now apparently moonlighting as Master of Ceremonies for Haunted Houses around the U.S.
12Nickelback - Coin for the Ferryman(4 weeks #31)
and just like that we return to Canada for another Nickelback track off "Feed The Machine". This is the single I liked from the start and it finally found its way onto my top 60. I love the whole Ferryman theme and I absolutely love the lyrics to this. It's like Animals, but not as sleazy. My fan made sleeve is exactly what I envisioned it should like if the song was ever released as a single. I even dreamed up a whole scenario for the Music Video. where A young Nickelback drive off the cliff and find themselves face to face with the Ferryman. Anyway, As of now, the song is dominating the #31 slot on my chart, but it could fuel up come 2019?
Let's continue the hard rock vibe with one of my favorite acts of 2017. "20 Below" was a monster hit on my weekly charts, and I needed another single, so I chose one of the that sounded best for the Active chart. A hard paced bassline with Emily Lazar powerful vocals to drive it home. The song started its chart run late 2017 and found itself peaking at #31 before falling off my chart. This is Another song that I had a video concept in my head ready to go with the Superhuman theme.
14Artificial Pleasure - Wound Up Tight(30)
Artificial Pleasure is a New Wave band I discovered on Youtube. A few of us charted this one as well. This has that perfect production for a early 80's New Wave sound. Think Devo or maybe even the more experimental side of the Cars.
14Bastille - World Gone Mad(2 weeks #29)
Ending this set is the only Bastille song I charted this year. This is a song by the band, not some collaboration with gooey fluffy white candy treats. This song came off that movie soundtrack with Will Smith. "Bright" maybe?, but a good movie. Its a straight out ballad, but mainly clicked with me because of its simplicity and melody.
I really liked "Desire", I think you catched up with that pretty late, bcs I charted it at the end of the last year but it peaked inside my top 10, nice to see it here. I liked other Ezra songs but "Paradise" annoyed me a lot. "Fake Happy" was one of the songs I didn't care at first but slowly grow on me, not to turn in one of my favorites by them but I wouldn't skip if it cames in shuffle
Here is a song I discovered on Youtube and Soundcloud while searching new music Free Weights. I was surprised at how much they actually sound like the 80's Sophistipop style of Free Weights. Don't know much about World Radio only that this song sounds great. If someone out there can shed some light on the band, please do.
15 In This Moment - Black Wedding feat. Rob Halford (2 weeks #28)
When this band releases a great single it really shows. This is a great hard rock number with Judas Priest's own Rob Halford lending a vocal hand. Rob does an incredible job, but deep down inside I still a Billy Idol would have been perfect. With Billy doing one chorus as White Wedding and Maria Brink answering with Black Wedding.
Simple Minds scored two big singles on my charts in 2018. "Magic" was the official single of "Walk Between Worlds".I actually charted a different song first, but eventually came back to this one as well. Simple Minds always had a U2 vibe in their productions as is evident on this song.
Who said emo is dead? As It Is is a Poppunk band on Fearless Records. A label the specializes on Emo Puppunk vibes. If you love My Chemical Romance, be sure to check out this band. At 17 weeks this song is still rising into my top 20, so it will be back next year.
15LGHTNNG - Hold On To Let Go(4 weeks #27)
Lightning stylized as LGHTNNG is a synthpop band I started charting last year with "Keep It Together" They have an 80's sound with an aesthetic vibe to it. A lot like CHVRCHES and Fickle Friends. This single is off the EP 'Getting Ready'
DIAMANTE is a new Hard Rock act you will be seeing more of as I countdown my top songs of 2018. Three more songs are still to come. DIAMANTE is on one of the premier labels in the hard rock scene.
13Halestorm - Uncomfortable(2 weeks #25)
The transition from DIAMANTE to Halestorm isn't too hard to do. Both have loud powerful vocals.,fierce guitar hooks, and catchy songs, except Lzzy also plays the fierce guitar hooks. This was the first single off 'Vicious'. It was also a big #1 single on Active chart.
LIPZ is a Hardrock Glam Metal band from? That's right. Sweden. How did you even guess that? This is the title track off their album of the same name. The style is very similar to new school Ghost as well as old school Kiss and Motley Crue. Music as well as look. That alone guarantees them a slot on my charts. The music video is always very important to properly showcase the band and song. They also just released a new single called "Star" with a Doc Indie Party Rock tagg on it that is destined for a slot on this chart.
07Halestorm -Do Not Disturb(2 weeks #20)
Up next we are up to the rather polarizing new single from Halestorm. First off, I happen to love the lyrics. They are pure sleaze on a stick that sounds even better delivered by Lzzy. Another eason I love the song is the Music video. It's a sort of spoof on The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Add to all that a fierce Blues rock vibe and you got what will eventually become one of y favorite rock songs of the moment.
next is the new single from 80's icons Tears For Fears. This one is sung bu Curt instead of Roland, but you do hear Roland in the chorus. The songs is a nice mix of new school indie synthpop and old style as well.
15Anna Of The North - Someone(2 weeks #25)
Moving right along. We have the last 10 songs that just miss the top 100 of 2018. We commence with Anna Of The North. Real name is Anna Lotterud. her music consists of Electropop, Synthpop, Dreampop. So far her only song that really gave me deep 80's vibes is this one. It's all in the percussion style, and it also carries a bit of Kim Carnes' "Betty Davies Eyes" in the synth melody.
16Steve Perry - No Erasin'(25)
We are up one of the biggest celebrated music comeback in recent years. Its the return of Steve Perry in the studio. No one in the world quite sounds like Steve Perry and to listen to his great voice again was a real treat to the fans. I'll showcase the album sleeve cover because I think it's a beautiful image.
17Rick Springfield - In The Land Of The Blind (26)
I can't remember a year when Rick has released an album and I haven't charted something off it. Being a huge fan of Rick Springfield since the early 80's I was surprised to find he is now on my favorite rock music label Frontiers Records. This was the first single off 2018's 'The Snake King'.
10Soft Cell - Northern Lights (2 weeks #23)
Another 80's comeback takes my 107 slot. This one is from New Wave sensations Soft Cell. The simplicity of the song reminds a bit of their biggest hit "Tainted Love" . "Northern Lights" is just getting started on my weekly chart so expect it back in 2019.
The second single off 'Pray For The Wicked" is getting off to a great start on my weekly charts. At just six weeks it's already in the top 20. You could say I'm catching up with the rest of the charts. This song is already #1 on Alt and Pop. Can we all agree that Brendon has the biggest vocals ever and biggest hair too.
13Red Sun Rising - Deathwish(23)
Red Sun Rising return to my 2018 charts with what is easily my favorite song from them so far. This song has a really epic vibe for a Rock song. The last chorus with the Spanish vibe is my favorite part. BTW, if you dig this band check out the new single "Stealing Life".
This Synthpop band established themselves on my chart with last year's #1 song "Windsurf". They have a flawless 80's vibe recalling such greats as Tears For Fears and Human League. They also did a tour throughout Japan. This song is the first of two I charted this year. This one is still climbing my weekly charts.
15Band- Maid - Dice(21)
Speaking of Japan, we are now up to Band-Maid the J-Metal all girl band who are best known for their Akihabara Maid stage image and fierce guitar hooks. I also love them for their bass player Misa. She really tears it up in the solos.
Back on my chart are Band-Maid with their first ever song on my chart. The song is actually from their 2015 album 'New Beginning', but it was also the first one I heard from them this year and I mistakenly thought it was from 2017. I really love this particular song because the verses are shared by both vocalist Saiki Atsumi, and guitarist Miku Kobato. Such a talented group of ladies.
The 1975 are never absent from my charts. This was the first single off 'A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships' and so far my favorite one. I love the New Wave guitars in this song.
13DIAMANTE - Haunted(14)
This artist had a spectacular year in music. She released an E.P. and a full length album as well as having one of the biggest powerballads on Active 2018. This song is currently on both Active rock and even higher on my chart. This is her 4th highest appearance in my chart. Three more DIAMANTE songs to go.
Up next is the sole Wombats song on my chart this year. Its not the one that charted on Alt, but the one that should have charted on Alt. This was the actual first single off 'Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life'.
The second single off 'Always Ascending' also made its way onto my weekly charts. This song should have been huge on the Alt charts.
14 Marilyn Manson - Kill4ME(3 weeks #21)
This one was the only single that clicked with me off 'Heaven Upside Down'. The MV for Kill4me was one of the best things I saw this year, but some worthless MF kept censoring on youtube. I hate prudes. This video also blurs out the best parts, but at least I didn't have to sign up to watch it.
14DREAMCAR - On The Charts(3 weeks #21)
At #90 we have one of three DREAMCAR songs that make the list. Oh yes, I kept charting them through 2018 and plan to grab a few songs off the debut album for this new year as well.
15Weezer - Happy Hour(2 weeks# 20)
This iconic band from the 90's has been changing up their sound a bit too much for me lately. The Toto cover was alright, but I found this one to be even more fun.
This 1975 produced band had an awesome year on my charts. This was the only song of theirs' that even dented the Alt top 50. This band sounds just as great live as they do in the studio. This is a live version of the song.
15Greta Van Fleet - When The Curtain Falls(3 weeks #19)
A lot of bands scored at least 2 songs on my YE chart. Greta Van Fleet with their ode to Led Zeppelin / The Guess Who sound almost always have a reserved slot on my charts. This was another #1 song for them on the Active Rock chart. This single's cover art is one of my favorites of the year.
We are back into some fierce hard rock territory with the second single off 'And Justice for None'. I immediately got into this one for its catchy as hell chorus, but soon got into the verses as well. This also is yet another of the most polarizing rock song among the PULSE rock boards. I'm obviously gonna have to upgrade this one one on the 2018 PULSe rankdown if I want it out of the bottom 10. BTW, before I forget this song is perfect motorbike and work out music. Which is all I really ask for from Hard Rock.
We are to a song that also charted on Active Rock. this is also the first time Escape the Fate make my YE list. I can't remember ever charting any other song from this band, but I really enjoyed this one because it had that early 2000's sound. Even sported a bit of Poppunk in the melody.
CHVRCHES is another band that gets reserved spaces on my chart. This year they released a really good song and a really bad one. I charted the really good one.
11Pale Waves - Noises(9)
53-45- 39-34- 30-25-20-17-14-12-9-
This is the Pale Waves song that Is currently in my top 10, and my favorite so far. It's a perfect song for any music era and it even has a great guitar solo. The Music video features only Heather Baron-Gracie , but the song is basically about her. She even mentions herself in one of the song's lyrics. Throughout the MV she also sports different looks and attitudes. This song will surely comeback at a much higher position next year. You can bet on that.
Salems Lott is an L.A. based Power Metal band whose stage personas are inspired by J-Metal's Visual Kei look which is basically Japan's Glam Metal taken to the extreme. "Shattered To Pieces" is a strong Powerballad with 80's elements. This song started off on my Metal Chart where it spent multiple weeks in my top 5. When it finally did crossover it slowly crept up the chart. It even peaked and started falling before shooting back up into the top 20. When we last saw it was #10 and rising.
Back on my YE chart are the Indiepop band DWNTWN. This is the second single off 'Racing Time' that I decided to chart. One of my favorite aspects of the song is how Jamie Leffler holds those notes as she sings the chorus, especially after the last breakdown.
16Abominables - Crimen(2 weeks #11)
This Spanish Indiepop band have been on my charts since 2009. back then they were known as Six Million Dollar Weirdo. As that band I charted two songs of theirs' including the mega hot "Horror Amor" . Since then They have gone through some line up changes. The only members that have been consistent are A-Boo(vocals) ans Zette(percussion). The one thing that has remained is the strong 80's New Wave feel to their songs. "Crimen" has more of a pop sound, but still very 80's with the synths.
One more for tonight, but its a big one from Arcade Fire. 'Everything Now' was released in 2017, but I had my ear on this particular track since I previewed it. It finally became a single with little success on the Alternative chart. This song really sounds like a long lost New Wave Cult classic from the 80's
Stone Temple Pilots - Roll Me Under Daryll Hall & John Oates with Train - Philly, Forget Me Not Shinedown - Devil Nickelback - The Betrayal Act III Smashing Pumpkins - Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts) Halestorm - Uncomfortable Rick Springfield - In The Land Of The Blind Five Finger Death Punch - Sham Pain
Good good stuff!
Bishop Briggs - Dream
Missed this one. I like it!
Kim Wilde - Kandy Krush
What?! Wow, had no idea she was still making music. And I dig it too.
Escape The Fate - Broken Heart
One thing's for sure, the screenshot for the video gets a thumbs up. #sideboob
We are up to the first of three Echosmith songs that made my top 100 of the year. Its a real shame Echosmith didn't chart on Alt anymore since I find their brand of IndiePop is pretty much the same style as Alt's actual #1 song of the year. I'm lookin at you "broken".
Here is another one of those songs that released their Official video way too late in the game. The single was released in September of 2017 and the MV came out in March 2018. Bad marketing if you ask me. Either way this was a major smash on my weekly charts. Securing a slot for this Australian New Wave band in my top 100 of 2018.
This year was huge for MGMT and their biggest year on my chart yet. Not one, but two songs make my top 100. This one has that 80's synthpop magic which truthfully is like a musical drug to me. Lately I've been giving "She Works Out Too Much" some spin action, which means I could be charting it in 2019. For now let's check out how the band shamlessly rips off some band's original song off the net.
A late entry into my charts. I was charting this when "Colors" was on the Alternative chart. I never actually got around to "Colors", but I did enjoy "Up All Night" enough to make my YE countdown. BTW, That Silver Stingray in the MV should be parked in my garage.
Through Fire is a band I don't recall ever charting, but this song sounded "boost" Grunge enough for me to really dig on. Great chorus ,Fierce guitar vibe. Speaking of "boost" ,I think I'm gonna have to boost this one on the Active PULSe rankdown if I don't want it to dig its own "Graaaaave".
Let's keep the Hard Rock vibe strong with the British Heavy Metal band Wraith. This was the first single off "Revelation". I loved it because it perfectly captures the hair Metal vibe of the 80's. Most particularly the guitar style of Ratt . So if you love Ratt you should check out their album. Up next for 2019 I'm gonna chart "Invasion" so keep your eye out for that one.
Demi Lovato is an artist who almost always makes an appearance on my charts. She is a scream fest hit machine, and the only Pop artist I ever decided to actually fly out and see in concert. "Sexy Dirty Love" had a strong old school vibe to it. It was the one song that really captured my heart, so I kept it on my chart for full 20+ run. This is also the song I wanted a music video for, so this live version was my OOO(object of obsession) for many months.
Hinder is one of my favorite rock bands of the 2000's . They always sounded more Hair Metal to me than most bands out at the time. Even their Powerballads had that Aerosmith vibe to them. It has been years since Austin Winkler left the band, and I really never got into the new lead singer, until this a song appeared on their last album. I love Marshall Dutton's vocal delivery on this song. It sounded a lot more like 2000's Hinder and I really love the double meaning of the lyrics.
10 more and we are into the top 50, so let's continue shall we?
Midnite City are one of my favorite bands on AOR Heaven Records. White Widdow and Grand Design are also on that label. They style of this song is Like AOR rock. Think of Night Ranger , Nelson or even Def Leppard wich is evident in the next song I plan to chart from them called "We Belong'. The chorus has a little picture perfect "Photograph" vibe going on. Very Melodic and Irresistible.
Let's change things up and visit Spain for one of my favorite Spanish Rock bands ever. La Oreja De Van Gogh have an impressive list of songs on my chart archives. Most of those #1 songs. LODVG is one of those bands I kept charting long after Amaia Montero left the group. 'El Planeta Imaginario' is their seventh studio album. I actually just discovered it this year and "Palida Luna" is the first album track I decided to chart.
From their album 'Heaven" here is a song I discovered late 2017, but ended its chart run this year. I don't know anything about this band to report, but judging by the few YOUTUBE comments I;'m guessing they are European? Whatever the case may be this song is pure 80's synthpop candy. The MV features two band members which was also the norm in 80's Synthpop bands like Soft Cell, OMD, Sparks and many others.
20BLACKPINK - As If It's Your Last(K-POP) (3 weeks #7)
Here is another genre you will run into on my weekly charts. I usually end up charting at least one song from all the big female K-POP groups of the moment. This was one of the biggest K-pop hits of 2017, but it was still strong on my 2018 year, so here is everyone's favorite K-pop band BLACKPINK one more time.
From Korea we go back to Spain for this Indierock band that I have been charting for a few years now. This is the last album track I'm charting from 'Voces", but they released a new E.P. this year titles 'la Parte Primera', so I now have a whole new set of songs to play with in 2019.
We are up to the big Alternative Rock song from Foster The People. I still can't believe "broken" beat this out as Alt's #1 song of 2018, but then again Alt also charted AJR so I guess anything is possibe? Stuff like that doesn't happen on my chart, but Foster The People does score top 10 hits time after time, so here it is at #55. I also never cared for the official MV ,so I'm showcasing the one with the cool lighting effects which also inspired my fan made sleeve art for the single.
16The Driver Era - Preacher Man (2 weeks #7)
Just for songs until my top 50 of the year. "Preacher Man" is another song that also charted on the Alternative chart. This is one of those songs were I love the vocal delivery above all else. I love the sort of Gospel vibe the guitars and pianos' melodies create, but those "Whoooooo's" with the guitars quickly guaranteed this song chart action.
Can You feel the tension as we near the 50? This is another song that was such a magical discovery for me. This is the style Indierock I actually stay up late night searching fro on the web. This song is of Blonder's E.P. simply entitled '$5'. It's a catchy powerpop song with Cars elements and yes...you guessed it "Stacey's Mom" vibe.
Riding right along ,we are up to the second highest Echosmith song making an appearance on my chart. Echosmith latest E.P. 'Inside A Dream' has a lot of sythpop songs with very strong CHVRCHES aesthetic vibes to them. The perfect kind that always find their way onto my weekly chart.
We are up to #51. The song that just missed my top 50 songs of 2018. For this 'Bop' we return to Japan to the K-pop sensations AOA. I like a lot of their songs but this is the one that finally cracked my actual music chart. If you check the K-pop songs I chart then you notice I prefer those with a ultra fun vibe, and what better vibe than a song about Video game bingos. Anchoring My top 50 songs of the year is the second single off "Prequel" . Once again Ghost is here to prove just how spectacular 80's Metal really sounded. This song is just starting out its chart run so it will surely be back in 2019. The music video with its lighthearted take on gore is also one of my favorite of the year.
Back for one more time is DIAMANTE with one of my top 5 songs of 2017. The reason this one returns other than because its fierce female sung party rock, is because it was still top 10 at the beginning of 2018. This was also the one that started my slight obsession with the Blue haired beauty. The song itself is a rocker. Killer guitar riffs, great vocals. This one is still my cel phone ringer and alarm as well as song #1 on my work out playlist. DIAMANTE also gets honors for knowing how to promote herself on twitter. Constantly posting her music vids and concert photos as well as all infor on her albums and songs. Best of luck in 2019.
15 Samantha Fox - Hot Boy(2 weeks #5)
Next is England's favorite Pin Up girl with the comeback the fans had been waiting for. The reason this song clicked with me so quickly is because she brought back her 80's NRG style. No album in the works yet, but if she does release an album full of NRGetic songs like this one she will easily get another V.I.P slot on my chart. On a final note those who are fans of 80's Hi- NRG extended will love this version www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXU_beTV23Q.
Another British 80's icon made her come back in 2018. Kim Wilde teaming with her brother Danny Wilde released 'Here Come The Aliens'. This was the first single and it's an ode to everyone's favorite genre "Pop Music".
14Disturbed - Are You Ready(7)
Nu Metal monsters Disturbed are never too far from my charts. This song shot up like bullet when it first hit the airwaves. As of now it's stuck in the 10-7 slots, but this was also a number 1 song on my metal charts which easily reserves the band a slot in my top 50 of 2018.
Blue October is an Alternative rock band who have had moderate success on my charts. I think "Say It" was my favorite until this year. "I Hope You're Happy" follows a crisp 80's vibe. Melody and instruments and that same 80's vibe prompted me to launch this song onto my chart. Unfortunately I haven't found any other song on this album even remotely interesting, but this song sure kept me Happy. Plus I now have a new favorite Blue October song.
Greta Van Fleet's second appearance is also the highest they appear on my 2018 chart. This song is off their full length LP 'From the Fires', but I had my ear on this one when it appeared on the E.P.. As of now this is their biggest hit on Active as well. Kinda upset it never got a proper Music Video, but this live one sounds even better than the studio version. Especially since the drummer gets a john Bonham style drum solo. Sweet.
What's a chart of mine with out at least one Carly Rae Jepsen song, so I decided to chart another track of 'Emotion b-side' . "Higher" has that uptempo Dance pop vibe that is impossible for me to resist.
We are up to DREAMCAR's second appearance on my charts. "Kill For Candy" was my #1 song of 2017, so it was only natural I would chart more songs off their debut album. This song got its start on my chart in late 2017, so it cruise over to 2018 and kept climbing until finally settleing down at #5. This song has a great 80's New Wave vibe.
9MUSES are one of K-Pop's biggest acts of the moment. This is a song that grew on me with each listen. It didn't exactly sound like 80's , but it also didn't sound too modern at all. The big sounds and vocals are 80's tho, and those are the songs that click me the easiest. Also the spelling out of LOVE CITY reminds me of 80's R&B dance Pop and that's always a good thing. The song finally peaked at #7, but with a hefty 30 week chart run.
