Yeah. Who would have thought she'd have another #1 outside of Closer. I did. Halsey is the new lana del rey.

The current #1 song is not #1 in any component. The chart is so bizarre these days. I think this is the first time since "Cheap Thrills"? I'm not sure. #2 "thank u, next" doesn't reign on any component either. "Sunflower" really doesn't have to do much to top the chart at this point tbh. Sicko Mode wasn't dominant on anything when it went #1 either. Thank U, Next had streaming, Without Me had sales, and High Hopes had radio.

I think Baby Shark debating is a consequence of YouTube streams. No numbers were given in the article, but it should be noted it doesn't appear in the YT weekly chart either. I suspect memes are involved somehow.

Korean artists on the Hot 100: #2 - "Gangnam Style" by PSY #5 - "Gentleman" by PSY #10 - "Fake Love" by BTS #11 - "Idol" by BTS #26 - "Hangover" by PSY ft. Snoop Dogg #28 - "MIC Drop" by BTS ft. Desiigner #32 - "Baby Shark" by Pinkfong #55 - "DDU-DU DDU-DU" by BLACKPINK #67 - "DNA" by BTS #89 - "Waste It On Me" by Steve Aoki ft. BTS #93 - "Kiss and Make Up" by Dua Lipa & BLACKPINK #94 - "Lifted" by CL #97 - "Daddy" by PSY ft. CL There, did I get them all? Wasn't there a song by a Korean artist that went #1 sometime in the 60s? I remember watching the video; it was obviously black & white and a ballad. I could be wrong about the artist's ethnicity but he was definitely either Korean or Japanese. I have no clue about his name or the song's title though.

Pinkfong’s “Baby Shark” Debuts On Billboard Hot 100 Chart “Baby Shark” makes a big splash on the Billboard Hot 100. by Brian Cantor about an hour agoBaby Shark - Pinkfong Kids' Songs & Stories More than two years after its emergence, Pinkfong’s viral sensation “Baby Shark” finally debuts on the Billboard Hot 100. Its debut position, it should be noted, is quite prominent. “Baby Shark” starts at #32 on the chart, which ranks songs from all genres based on sales, streams and radio airplay. In this case, almost all the activity was generated on the streaming front. That is not to say sales were a non-factor; the song does take #2 on this week’s “Kid Digital Song Sales” chart. — In conjunction with the big “Baby Shark” week, Pinkfong reaches a new peak of #8 on the Billboard Emerging Artists Chart. Why would they write an article on a song randomly debuting top 40 two years after release, but not mention what caused it to have such a sudden debut?.... I'm gonna assume the song wasn't registered properly on YouTube previously to be tracked. You're probably right, it probably should have been charting before this week.

I'll just leave my short, ill-informed opinion on every debut done in a more Spectrum Pulse format... not that anyone cares.
Ratings/reviews of new arrivals: #32 - "Baby Shark" by Pinkfong - What am I even supposed to say? It's a kids song about how sharks want to eat fish. It actually sounds a bit menacing at the beginning till the kid's voice comes out. It's fine, I guess? It probably won't last.
#75 - "Take It From Me" by Jordan Davis - It's okay, but it's not all that country. I like the electric guitar, it's pretty catchy. The lyrics are a little meatheaded though, and I'll probably forget it.
#76 - "What Makes You Country" by Luke Bryan - I've kind of warmed up to Luke Bryan. I liked "Most People Are Good" and especially "Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset". But it's interesting how self-aware he is about the pop masquerading as country. But this is a pretty good country tune, with some nice electric and acoustic instrumentation, about what makes you "country". Not bad. #80 - "Down to the Honkeytonk" by Jake Owen - Jake Owen sing-talking about how he won't go down in history... besides already having several #1 hits in country? It has a decent melody, but that's it. Pass.
#82 - "Love Someone" by Lukas Graham - Acoustic wannabe Ed Sheeran. Not as bad as "7 Years", but "You'll probably never love someone like I do"... weird line. It's so boring. Next.
#83 - "Love Wins" by Carrie Underwood (Best of the Week) - This was probably one of the best tracks on 'Cry Pretty', and for good reason. Hinting towards critiquing gun violence and how it's just "another story on the news" is definitely true in the states. It's a bit optimistic for me, "Love Wins" is a bit cheesy, but I can't hate a good power ballad. Her voice is good for it. #86 - "Ruin My Life" by Zara Larsson (Dishonorable mention) - Misandry aside... this isn't one of the better Zara Larsson songs. It's incredibly repetitive, there isn't too much going on in the song, and a lot of it runs together until the bridge. The chorus is bad. Pass.
#87 - "Body" by Loud Luxury ft. brando - Fun dance track. Can't say too much outside of that, though.
#91 - "Here Tonight" by Brett Young - I think Brett Young has a lot of potential. He's put out some pretty good tracks. It feels like he made a country version of "Banana Pancakes". I like the intimacy of just wanting to forget about everything and just spend time together. It's decent.
#92 - "Burn Out" by Midland - A more traditional country song? Cool. I like the harmonies and it has a nice sing-along chorus. The lyrics seem to indicate it's connected to "Drinkin' Problem" except with cigarettes. I like it.
#93 - "Solo De Mi" by Bad Bunny (Worst of the Week) - I never liked this guy. And still don't. My god, this is as whiny as an XXXTENTACION song in his tone. It's like he tried to merge emo rap with reggaeton, and it's an awful result. Let's pray this does not become a hit.
#95 - "Roses" by Benny Blanco & Juice WRLD ft. Brendon Urie - Interesting combination... but a mediocre song. Juice WRLD is annoying like usual, and it's weird hearing Brendon Urie downplay, but even then, he still sounds way better than Juice WRLD, and it's just emo nonsense. I'll stick with "Molly" for Brendon Urie collaborations.
#98 - "Make It Sweet" by Old Dominion - This isn't bad. Inoffensive message of "life is short, so live it the best you can". Typical mainstream country song.
#100 - "idontwannabeyouanymore" by Billie Eilish (Honorable mention) - I've been pretty impressed, but not quite liked Billie Eilish. I can respect her more than I like her. For the most part, she's not my thing. This song has some decent harmonies that sound kind of eerie, and I like the theme of addressing insecurity and self-deprecation, how people say they love themselves, when they clearly don't. This is one I can definitely recommend. Good work.

This is such an incredibly satisfying week — no Christmas songs, no album bombs, just a ton of good songs organically reaching new peaks. Also as fuckimg hilarious as it is that Baby Shark debuted, it honestly wouldn’t shock me if more random children’s songs debut in the future. Not sure how to feel about that.
Also how did Better Now reach the top 10? Did the amount of Christmas songs dropping out really give it that much of a push?

There used to be a policy against children’s songs entering the Hot 100, back in the 60s and early 70s when 7” vinyl kids records sold at gold and platinum levels.

I wonder where Tequila would be right now Below 'Speechless' and above 'She Got The Best Of Me' so that puts it at 25-31. Not sure what the exact placement would be though.

Dumb question, but how has Talk To Me managed to reach the Top 50 this week (Not that I’m complaining)? It doesn’t seem to be doing relatively “outstanding” in any field. I apologise if I’m misinformed, but I’m curious 👀
E: is it to do with the Remix? Even though I think it’s been out for a month now

Baby Shark debuting surprised me. I hear it so many times through the past two years and I admit it is so catchy. Same. I find it weird that it became popular here in the Philippines way before it became trending in the US.
