Oh...so, it looks like you only saw my first list. I had sent you a second list within the same PM a minute afterwards that had a few differences, and one of them was this being at #7, not #4. Sorry for the hassle.

F-I-N-A-L-L-Y. If my last bottom ten was a song that was "merely" my 91 or 92, I wouldn't react all that much, but I can't stress how much I hate "Keep On Loving You". It has the worst elements of "rock" music in this era.
I should have went the extra mile and ranked it #100. As much as I don't like Air Supply. there's a special place in hell for "Keep On Loving You".

Looks like my hopes detailed in my early post went like 1 for 4? Not bad, not bad. No accounting for (lack of) taste, I suppose. Despite the various lumps taken, nothing left is in my bottom half, and I still have plenty of top 10s/30s. So this is a decent top 20, all told. Although forgive me for feeling the two "workday" songs are a little out-of-place here. Now, unlike them, I figured Best Shot and Tide would get this far, but it won't make me any less relieved when they exit (the winner prediction for the latter still has me concerned...). Wouldn't mind getting rid of Jessie's Girl sooner rather than later, too.

Angel of the Morning I love how this song was used in the opening scene of Deadpool, it's instantly glued with that scene. Slow Hand ‘As the midnight moon was drifting through the lazy sway of the trees.’ The sisters set the smooth tone straight away with those opening lyrics.

No real complaints about this top 20. There's quite a few songs in my top 20 (and some in my top 10 as well) that I didn't think would make it quite this far. I'm glad they did though. Let's see if my #1 gets enough support to make the top 10.

35. Too Much Time On My Hands (50): Interesting, progressive type of song. I do like it, but I just preferred other songs this year. 34. Master Blaster (7): I've always loved this song. Good recurrent airplay back home. The reggae instrumentation is ACE, his vocals are great. The whole song is a jam and a classic, and one of my favorites from Stevie. Sad to lose my second top 10! Why so early, guys??!! No reggae love here? 33. Hold On Tight (53): I don't remember hearing this one back in the 80s. I heard it first just a few years ago when I bought the ELO Flashback compilation. It's a nice, fun song ala Rock'n Roll Is King, with excellent production and strong vocals/harmonies, but I didn't feel the overall melody as strong as others this year. 32. Take It On The Run (39): Nice rock ballad. Fair spot for this one! 31. Woman (8): This was the song of the year back home!! And among the favorite songs of the decade of all pop radio stations. This has always been my favorite John Lennon song. I love how he sings, and how the music really supports the lyrics and vocals. Sad to have yet another top 10 loss :( 30. Angel Of The Morning (11): Another classic 80s ballad. The dramatic instrumentation and her pure vocals were a great combo. This is the definitive version of the song --although it was still cute to hear Shaggy's take of this one in the early 2000s 29. Queen of Hearts (16): Awwww. A BIG hit back home (yearend top 3!) that still has strong recurrent airplay. I still have the red Capitol 45 RPM :) Everyone in my family liked this one. One of my favorite country songs ever :) 28. The Breakup Song (9): Exactly, they don't do songs like this anymore!! Great song with clear 80s rock vibe, with very strong recurrent airplay as well. Now I'm getting pissed with my 5th top 10 loss!! And before a couple of songs in my bottom 3rd! >:( 27. Slow Hand (10): My favorite Pointer Sisters song, and one of my favorite R&B ballads of the 80s. Love the silky, smooth music (those first notes are classic!), vocals and harmonies, and lyrics. Surprised this skipped top 20. 26. Keep On Loving You (23): This was amongst my top 3 REO songs back in the day. I have pretty good memories tied to the song that helped it in my ranking it for this RD. Still think it's a strong 80s rock ballad song. 25. Treat Me Right (49): Pat always delivers the goods in terms of vocals, that's a given. In terms of melody, I don't put this song amongst Pat's best. Good to see a female rocker this high anyway. 24. Lady (You Bring Me Up) (67): Nice disco-like song, almost Earth, Wind & Fire like... but the key word is ALMOST... good chorus, but verses not as strong melodically IMO. Surprised to see this in the top quarter. 23. The Stroke (60): This was another good first listen, that I might've under-ranked... 22. While You See A Chance (66): This was a first listen, too. 21. Who's Crying Now (43): As always, Steve's vocals are great. Production and music are quite strong as well. Melody in verses are not as strong for me to rank it a bit higher. Strong song anyway. So far, I only have one song left outside my top 40. I love the act, but I don't feel the song is amongst the act's best... I seriously hopeI don't miss any more top 10s in the next reveal!!!!

This is my first year end rankdown that I’ve completed outside of the country forum and so I do have to preface my rankings based on the fact that is my favorite genre of music (although you can take most of today’s country to the trash for all I care). I never expected songs like Ronnie Milsap’s “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me” or Rosanne Cash’s “Seven Year Ache” to perform all that well but they remain two of my favorite songs from the 80s. The same can be said for Ronnie's other hit song "Smoky Mountain Rain" and Eddie Rabbit’s “I Love a Rainy Night” as both of those are classic hits still played on the radio today. I’m also pleasantly surprised to see Juice Newton’s “Angel of the Morning” and “Queen of Hearts” make it into the top 30 as both of those are songs that I still listen to occasionally to this day.
All that to say I did grow up with an older brother who listened to quite a bit of 80s music including REO Speedwagon whose music I happen to really enjoy and included two of their songs in my top 20. And while he listened to bands such as The Police it doesn’t mean I like songs such as “De Do Do Do, Da Da Da Da” which I happen to find unlistenable (I’m also not that much of a fan of Sting’s voice overall).
I’m not really quite sure what I have left as my list has pretty much been obliterated, but I know that I still have my #1 and #2 in and while I’m not quite sure where #2 will end up at I’d like to think my first place ranking actually has a shot at winning the rankdown.

Angel Of The Morning Juice Newton
Total Points: 1326
Billboard Hot 100: 4
Billboard Top 100 of 1981: 25
From: Juice
Originally offered to Connie Francis and later recorded by Merrilee Rush & The Turnabouts in 1968, "Angel In The Morning" found its most successful incarnation with Juice Newton, who took it to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week ending May 2, 1981. It would remain at its peak position for 4 weeks and was the first country music video aired on MTV, debuting the day the network launched.
Starting the day with a No. 1 loss, sorry craziaskowboi ...
craziaskowboi - 1
My cognizant life literally begins with this song. I was a toddler, maybe not even three years old yet, sitting in the back of my parents' Pontiac Sunbird coupe on my way to visit the doctor, and I remember four things:
1. It was late in the morning, and the sun was shining. 2. One of those giant keystone-shaped signs was pointing traffic to the ramp for the Pennsylvania Turnpike. 3. There was a dump truck parked alone in a parking lot next to the Turnpike sign.
4. This song was on the radio.
This was when I learned what a "song" was, and I've been listening to music ever since. That's what makes this song so special to me, and why I had to make it my #1. On a related note, geography and everything associated with it (travel, roads and highways, etc.) have become major hobbies of mine as well. It can all be traced back to my first memory.

Well, this isn't the top ten I expected. "I'm Coming Out" misses, "Don't Stand So Close to Me" misses, "The Tide is High" misses and "Rapture" makes it instead...and look at some of the other songs that made the top ten. "Urgent" might be the most surprising top ten entry we've had in these 80s RDs. "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" bodes well for another Stevie song, at least.
1 | 2 6 | 8 | 10 | 12 | 18 | 19 | 26 | 35
I underranked my 19, for the record. I should have at least put it top ten. That song has been in my head ever since I completed this ranking.
At this point, I don't know what's winning...but I still like my dark horse pick of "Bette Davis Eyes".

2, 5, 7, 9, 10, 21, 24, 29, 33, 53
I definitely wasn’t expecting this top ten. Not going to complain though. Although I’d prefer if my 53 leaves sooner.

Wow. I definitely thought "Urgent" and "Celebration" would miss the top ten, but am very glad to see it still hanging in there given how Kool & the Gang and Foreigner have done in past 80s rankdowns. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see those two potentially leaving first. I can see Queen or Kim Carnes winning it all with Pat Benatar and Stevie Nicks not too far behind. 10. Foreigner - Urgent 9. Blondie - Rapture 8. Kool & the Gang - Celebration 7. Dolly Parton - 9 to 5 6. ABBA - The Winner Takes It All 5. Stevie Nicks feat. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Stop Draggin' My Heart Around 4. Daryl Hall and John Oates - Kiss on My List 3. Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot 2. Queen - Another One Bites the Dust 1. Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes btw, I love the way Kim sounds in "Bette Davis Eyes"! Makes it sound sexy!

Stories like this give meaning to the influence that music can have on our life experiences. We can all be tuned into the same song, but those sonic waves trigger very unique emotional responses in each of us. Sounds are processed in the human brain more quickly than images, largely because auditory stimuli reach the cortex faster than visual stimuli. In addition, it's been reported that auditory memory is imprinted more deeply than visual memory for many individuals. Studies have also shown that the most critical period for forming musical taste is in our teens. Men were, on average, aged 14 when their favorite song was released. For women, it was 13. It's interesting to note that the music that we listen to in our early 20s is only half as influential in deciding adult taste as the songs we listened to during our early teens. Attachment Deleted
