That is an amazing chart run especially in 2001 where streaming wasn't a thing. Minimal sales points - so stagnant radio aka streaming of pre-iTunes era. It only spent 7 weeks top 20 on Radio Songs, so it definitely had a notable help from sales throughout its run.

Camila is about to be a Grammy winning artist in her debut era and had a top 5 album of 2018, she not bland she takes risks Lmao what risks? Unless you mean risking releasing a s**tty song like Sangria Wine over She Loves Control, but that's all I can think of. Conqueses

this was by far the luckiest number 1 that year because if drake released a week early we’d be calling Havana a number 2 hit. Or if Perfect wasn’t released, then we’d be calling it a 7 week #1. It goes both ways. true

“7 rings” is #1 and #15 on Apple Music US. Does anyone know how many streams that might be?

It goes both ways. If Perfect wasn't released, it would still have been blocked by Rockstar for a few more weeks.

Well, looking at today’s Spotify update... looks like this will be the 10th consecutive year of at least 1 song debuting at number 1. Wow a whole decade. Way to keep the tradition alive Ariana !

Gary is working today: www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8494205/ariana-grande-thank-u-next-tops-pop-songs-chart-7-rings-debutsAriana Grande Tops Pop Songs Chart With 'Thank U, Next' & Debuts With '7 Rings'1/21/2019 by Gary Trust Grande earns her fifth No. 1 on the airplay survey. Ariana Grande achieves her fifth No. 1 on Billboard's Pop Songs radio airplay chart, as "Thank U, Next" ascends 2-1 on the survey dated Jan. 26. Here's a rundown of Grande's five Pop Songs No. 1s, three of which she has notched since last July: "Problem" (feat. Iggy Azalea), July 12, 2014, two weeks "Side to Side" (feat. Nicki Minaj), Dec. 24, 2016, five weeks "No Tears Left to Cry," July 21, 2018, one week "God Is a Woman," Nov. 10, 2018, one week "Thank U, Next," Jan. 26, 2019, one week to date The Pop Songs chart measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 167 mainstream top 40 stations. The coronation for "Next" on Pop Songs marks its latest on a Billboard chart, after it led the all-genre, streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks, beginning with its Nov. 17, 2018, debut, marking Grande's first Hot 100 No. 1. The smash has also ruled Streaming Songs, Digital Song Sales, Pop Digital Song Sales and Dance Club Songs. Grande concurrently debuts at No. 30 on Pop Songs with follow-up single "7 Rings," which bows with just three days of airplay in the Nielsen Music tracking week ending Jan. 20, after it was released at midnight ET Friday, Jan. 18. The song channels the melody of The Sound of Music's "My Favorite Things" and is expected to soar onto next week's Hot 100 (dated Feb. 2), following a full first week of data tracking. Both "Next" and "Rings," currently stand-alone singles, are expected to appear on Grande's forthcoming next album, believed to be titled Thank U, Next. All charts will update Wednesday (Jan. 23) on Billboard.com.

That's odd- charts are updating Wednesday, which implies the Top 10 is coming Tuesday, yet other chart-related articles are being written.

Without Me back at #1 would be pretty cool. With 7 rings probably taking the top spot next week, nice to see back-to-back #1 from ladies again. The 2019 charts are already much better than the 2018 ones tbh.

The charts at the top seem pretty strong don’t they? People talk about how weak the charts are but I think it’s only at the bottom of the top ten right? Could 7 Rings still debut if Without Me is such a strong number one?

Could 7 Rings still debut if Without Me is such a strong number one? Last I saw, 7 Rings was outselling it's nearest competitor by a 4:1 factor, and outstreaming the #2 track by 2:1. It's even getting airplay. I have little doubt it will enter at #1.

Seems like Ariana Grande is set to debut at #1 with 7 rings. I think I owe someone an apology? Please quote me, whoever that is. Congrats, Ariana!

If it falls hard the last few days of the chart week, it would change things. For instance, its sales lead is now under 3:1. I’m betting it will be #1, just saying it isn’t guaranteed to pass “WM” yet.

That's odd- charts are updating Wednesday, which implies the Top 10 is coming Tuesday, yet other chart-related articles are being written. There was an MLK Day delay last year, so I assumed that would be the case this year as well. I was surprised to see the Pop Songs article. But they also seem to handle the radio charts in different waves than the "Hot" charts, so the Ariana article wouldn't necessarily prove anything. Plus, Billboard seems increasingly aware of the fact that other websites and Twitter accounts have been "scooping" them - particularly as it relates to big name/social-friendly artists. Since many people (including Ariana herself) have already been talking about thank u, next hitting #1 (albeit on Mediabase), they likely wanted to post an article as soon as their radio data was final.

It doesn't seem to have enough radio audience according to kworb's latest audience to even debut in Radio Songs yet. So unless some of the streaming leaked over, it is quite unlikely it would debut.

"Without Me" being a "weak" #1 is mostly because it isn't actually #1 on any metric at the moment (it has ruled the sales chart before though). It's solidly inside top five on all metric though, unlike "Sunflower" (lagging on airplay) or "thank u, next" (comparatively lagging on sales and streams).

True, but just the Fri-Sun streaming totals were on par with the #1 streaming song totals for the full week last week. Will it's lead drop? Likely, but it'll still be #1 by week's end.

When people say that "7 Rings" will debut at #1 they are talking about the 2/2 chart, right? Not the 1/26 chart that might be revealed tomorrow (unless the MLK holiday holds it up one day). Right, but for some reason they won't let us discuss the 2/2 chart in a 2/2 thread. ...weren't you one of the people opposed to how early the threads were being made?
