That's really impressive because "Always Be My Baby" peaked at #2 airplay for 10 weeks, but it ranked #1 in the 1996 year end chart (besting "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion which spent 14 weeks at #1!). So it's radio audience must have been crazy and it still gets a lot of recurrent play today. "ABMB" had more longevity than "BYLM." It debuted before "BYLM," got passed by it, but then ended up falling more slowly. So, that's how it was #1 year-end. I'd wager it's "We Belong Together." That one had more airplay at its peak, and it has a lot of recurrent play at a lot of formats. |

This will be GLY's 30th week in top 10 of Radio Songs... And it's still top 5 and stable af What other songs this decade have past 25 weeks in Radio Songs' top 10? Does anyone here have a list? Shape of You holds the record (38 weeks), right? GLY's probably gonna break it at this pace. Did streaming era stabilize Radio Songs' chart runs too? |

That's crazy how long it took for R&B to be added. Imagine how much bigger "One Sweet Day" or "The Boy Is Mine" or even TLC hits would've been. It makes airplay hits like "Always Be My Baby" even more impressive (year end #1 airplay song of 1996).
Aside from its consistently high sales at the time also, what else do you think helped it garner 13 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100? Ironically, although popular of course, “One Sweet Day” wasn’t as big nor omnipresent on the R&B charts/R&B airplay compared to Carey’s other Daydream era hits aka. “Fantasy” and “Always Be My Baby”. In fact, it was much bigger on Pop/Rhythmic Top 40/AC. br] “Always Be My Baby” was facing competition from Bone-Thugs-Harmony’s, “Tha Crossroads”, Tupac’s “How Do You Want It/California Love” and Toni Braxton’s “You’re Makin’ Me High”, but still managed to stay in the top ten of the R&B airplay chart for several months where most other hits were falling. That song was huge, as was the “Fantasy” (Remix) with Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Actually The Boy Is Mine's run occurred before R&B airplay was added to the overall Hot 100 panel (it's run was roughly from the spring to early fall 1998; R&B airplay, along with all formats, wasn't added until November 1998, the first week of Billboard's 1999 chart year). So I'm not sure if it would've gotten more weeks at No. 1, but the 13 weeks certainly would have been stronger. On the 1998 year-end, Too Close beat TBIM for #1, but it probably would have remained at the top because that was also an R&B song. I'm not quite sure where you're getting your stats from actually, because in terms of Mariah's Daydream singles, they all did comparatively well on R&B airplay, as well as the 3 major formats (Pop/Urban/Rhythmic). Fantasy was #1 on R&B Airplay, OSD actually out-peaked ABMB at #2, and ABMB was #3; on the year-end R&B Airplay chart I think ABMB placed slightly higher than OSD, #15 vs. #18 or something like that, but I would call both of those placements considerably high. I would also not call Mariah a core-R&B/crossover-pop artist. She seems to be mainly a core pop artist with heavy R&B crossover elements, or at least she is promoted as being this way. Regardless, she definitely is a rare artist in that during the 90s and 2000s, she did extremely well on all the major formats (Pop/Urban/Rhythmic, and AC as well). In terms of singles performance, she nearly or already has done as well as Elvis or the Beatles, but if R&B play were included in the Hot 100 in the 90s, she possibly would have been even bigger. |

If love to know how much a #1 song makes $ in a given week. How much money does this bring in? In projecting partial-week data, "7 Rings," released on Republic Records, could launch with over 70 million U.S. streams, 20 million in airplay audience and 80,000 downloads sold, placing it in line to arrive as the most-streamed and most-sold song of the week. Do you know how nice Girls Like You sounds after a long day of work and a huge migraine, driving home and listening to it last summer was like therapy. Idk why. It was just kind of soothing and dull, which is why people hate it but it was nice.
I still like the song, and I like history so I cannot wait for it to break SOY's record.
