I'm happy for Lizzo, Billie, Ariana in the GF. I was hoping Taylor would make AOTY this time.

And the Maren Morris snubs outside of “Common” is appalling! LMAO at some thinking she was this year's Kacey. She never had near the critical reception/industry backing.

John Legend's Christmas album nominated in best traditional pop vocal album. A rarity for a holiday album, I'm guessing? No, at this point it's routine. In the past 5-10 years holiday albums by Michael Buble, Susan Boyle (!), Sarah McLachlan, Johnny Mathis, and more have been nominated in the category. None have won, though, which is interesting.

Quoting my GoldDerby post,
The only one I'm bummed about prediction-wise is Bon Iver in AOTY since they were my first alternate.
Record Of The Year: 6/8 (Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Khalid, Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, Post Malone feat. Swae Lee, Ariana Grande)
Album Of The Year: 5/8 + 1 alternate (Lizzo, Vampire Weekend, Lana Del Rey, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish + Bon Iver alternate)
Song Of The Year: 5/8 (Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Lewis Capaldi, Lizzo)
Best New Artist: 5/8 + 1 alternate (Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Maggie Rogers, Rosalia + Yola alternate)
So, counting the alternates as 0.25x, we have: 2019 prediction: 64,1% 2020 prediction: 67,1%
We're getting there.

Yeah, Lil Nas in AOTY is a bit mind boggling. No Mariah in R&B is a mess. Lizzo in R&B is a choice. Thank god for no Taylor in AOTY. I pray Ariana doesn’t win AOTY, but I don’t see anyone in that category she’d split votes with. She'll split with Billie Eilish some, no? Maybe Lana Del Rey. Vampire Weekend might have had AOTY except for Bon Iver being a surprise inclusion. Really, everyone is kind of splitting votes.

LOL I can't take them seriously after nominating Lil Nas X for AOTY.
The nod for Spirit is tragic. Even the Beyhive disliked it.

Now I know good and damn well if Lizzo could get in best traditional r&b, Mariah could have gotten into r&b somewhere. What is THAT random shit?
This year is predictable for the frontrunners but they somehow still found a way to be messy for the undercards/fillers. Like, no one thinks Beyonce has a shot in hell of winning either of those pop categories and I honestly don't know who else I would have put in her spot, but why is she even there in the first place?

And the Maren Morris snubs outside of “Common” is appalling! LMAO at some thinking she was this year's Kacey. She never had near the critical reception/industry backing. To me, the big story is her absence from the Country AOTY category. The media absolutely HAS latched onto her as their "it" girl within country, frankly at the expense of a few other popular female artists (such as Kelsea Ballerini). And we're a week removed from the biggest country industry show giving her Album of the Year. That said, there are plenty of voices that question whether she's "country" - or whether the "GIRL" album was all that good. It's interesting that the latter perspective seemed to win out at the Grammy Awards, which you'd argue should theoretically be less passionate about genre nuances than the CMAs.

I get that the "media" has latched onto Morris, but Kacey's clout stemmed from rave reviews. Morris didn't have those. Re: the Country Album category, anyone paying attention knows the Grammys very often veer from the CMAs and ACMs. Carrie Underwood has never gotten a Country Album nom, for example. Sturgill Simpson recently won the Grammy for Country Album. Ashley Monroe, The Time Jumpers, Brandy Clark, etc have been getting nominated in Country Album at the Grammys.

Maren Morris got 4 nominations for her debut album and last year her song "The Middle" got 3 nominations that is part of why a lot of us stunned that she didn't get a nomination, But then again this is the same award show will be giving l'll Nas X An Award next year so.

To be fair, I’ll say that GIRL does not come close to being as good as Hero. Hero was fantastic, and Girl was just okay, not Grammy Album Award-worthy imo. I still do feel like it should’ve got nominated because it’s better than some of the albums that ended up being nominated... Meanwhile - Girl, the song, I am actually surprised about getting no nominations. It’s a female empowerment anthem and I thought that would’ve been an easy shoo-in.

Country Album is pretty stacked this year, and it's hard to argue with the nominees. Eric Church is a perennial nominee in the category and consistently makes solid albums. Reba McEntire released what is easily one of the best albums of her career. The Pistol Annies released a really well-received album, and Lambert and Monroe are group members and have been in this category as solo artists. Thomas Rhett's album is blah, but he's a big force in country right now and the album has multiple hits. Tanya Tucker is a legend, though I don't know much about her album.

How comes Cardi B's single money, please me, or press was nominated in the rap category, is it because she did not release a whole body (Album)? no it's because they were bad even for Cardi B

Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend inclusions pretty much spell doom for LDR chances. She just lacks a certain block of voters to rally behind her. Sigh.

I didn’t realize so many people though Mariah might get nominated. It never even occurred to me she had a shot.
That Lil Nas X AOTY nod is a real head scratcher. The rest of them are solid though.
Now I know how Lizzo got 8. They stuck her in some interesting categories (Exactly how I Feel? Really? Lol)
The rap album category is solid, but was Rapsody eligible? I think she dropped past the cut off date.

I don't know why some of you are surprised by these noms. The Grammys have zero credibility and zero prestige.

...they nominated an 18-minute Lil Nas X EP for AOTY?? This is worse than the time that random Coldplay EP was nominated for Pop Album.

Shame, that Madonna and Mariah can't get noms even in genre categories with albums that are on par with their best work. It is what it is though.

I surprised Marren didn't get any nominations (apart from that one....because of Brandi). Sam x Normani is missing in Pop Duo.... No love for Mark Ronson? What about Ari Lennox?
Why does Lizzo have so many nominations?? I mean I'm happy for the girl but 8?? Are we looking at another India Aire/Sza situation??
I'm sad Robyn didn't get a nomination for Honey in Electronic album BUT I am happy for Nao in R&B album and FKA Twigs and Tove Lo in Video.

I didn’t realize so many people though Mariah might get nominated. It never even occurred to me she had a shot. People being disappointed she didn't get nominated doesn't necessarily mean they thought she was going to be nominated. Having said that, it was a top 10 album with very strong critical reviews. It's still on the R&B Albums chart. When you look at some of the nominees in the category, it's hard to justify them getting in over Mariah's album. I don't know why some of you are surprised by these noms. The Grammys have zero credibility and zero prestige. That's patently false. They are still the most watched awards show, artists still want nominations/wins and feel gratitude for them, they still help sales, and the media still gives them a lot of coverage. Those are just facts.

AOTY category is cleary rigged to favor Lizzo and doom LDR . That's why Tyler, the Creator is not there but both Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend are.
