Yeah, Lizzo in particular is gaining a lot of traction lately. Not sure she's getting enough to be on the AOTY conversation just yet, but lumping her with another act is particularly dumb. RE: Beyoncé, if this was another studio album, sure... but it's a live album of material that has mostly won or gotten nods before. I did a quick search and apparently two live albums have won before, so it's not impossible but IDK. I don’t think Homecoming will win AOTY, but since she hasn’t won yet I think the academy could decide it’s harmless to give her another nomination and pat themselves on the back for continuing to celebrate her in their own half-assed way Most of Academy's criticism has been not enough POC winning big categories. The criticism is not centered on Beyonce. There are plenty of better albums by POC this year. Just like last year had Janelle and others who put out better albums than Everything is Love (which this writer also predicted last year lmao). This year we have Tyler the Creator, Lizzo, and others who put out better work (not to mention ORIGINAL work).

I would be very surprised if Homecoming didn't get an urban contemporary album nod, but an AOTY nomination is likely a very big stretch, to say the least. The Grammys would get flack for nominating an album full of old material (even though it has happened before), and then they'd get flack again when Homecoming inevitably didn't win and the criticism flips around to 'what does Beyonce have to do to win AOTY?????' If Beyonce isn't going to win AOTY it's really not worth it to nominate her there, tbh.
The nail in the coffin is that the album is a year late. If she'd released it immediately following her Coachella performance, it would probably be a different story.

Interesting they grouped Lizzo and Megan The Stallion together. I mean I know why but Lizzo isn’t really a rapper the way Meagan is... they may have not quite figured out how to label Lizzo yet. She doesn’t fit neatly in boxes.
Homecoming will likely get something, but AOY? Nah.
Ari very may well push 7 rings but I think Thank U Next is the far safer bet.
With Katy Perry, Camilla Cabello, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift all set to drop within the eligibility period it’s still anyone’s game at least from the pop side. Grammy liikes all those acts.

I am not so sure that Homecoming does not have a chance for winning AOTY. I think it is likely to be nominated, and it may be her best chance at finally winning. Think about it, one of the reasons that is always said about her losing is that the academy prefers awarding "musicians", but one of the main concepts about this album is its live instrumentation. While the album consisting of old songs already nominated for in the past hurts its chances, she has already had a old song nominated for a live version in the past. Not to mention the album comes from one of the most critically acclaimed performances of all time. All of this makes me think she may actually have a chance.

Homecoming got huge critic acclaim and had cultural moment. with 7 nominations going on right now, I can see it getting nomination.

I don't think Thank U, Next is getting nominated for SOTY/ROTY I'm pretty sure Ariana will submit 7 Ringz I'm predicting another "GIAW"/"NTLTC" situation where "TU,N" is submitted for SOTY and Pop Solo, and "7 rings" for ROTY. This time it might actually work though, I think TUN is the safer single for the all-genre categories so I'm hoping they'll use it

I would be very surprised if Homecoming didn't get an urban contemporary album nod Since it’s release I always pegged this album a lock for best music film category (formerly best long form video) although I can see her winning urban contemporary among a weak line up.

While it seems likely, who would have predicted Lemonade (the visual) wouldn’t win anything?

We all know by now when it comes to the Grammys that winning isn't much about which album is better.) 2. If NARAS wants a POC win this year that's even more reason to not nominate Homecoming for AOTY; they won't want to risk losing votes to Beyonce.

I can't think of any that have a legitimate shot (quite a few are better but aren't winning), however if they had a similar outcome as last year people would be happy. So a white woman in album, and POC in song and/or record.

Lizzo tho. Could she get mentions and noms? Can and will. I foresee a lot of new blood this year in the major categories, which is exciting. Lizzo, Billie Eilish, BTS, Lil Nas X, and maybe even Maggie Rogers and Halsey.

Taylor Swift's new album, Lover, is coming out August 23. Just before the 2020 Grammy deadline on August 31st...
Who else be squeezing their album in(out?) before August 31st?

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=316828&title=THE-GRAMMY-CHEW%3A-FURTHER-RUMINATIONSMonday, June 17, 2019 THE GRAMMY CHEW: FURTHER RUMINATIONSby Lenny Beer and Simon Glickman In our prior writings on Grammy 2019 hopefuls we discussed Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X and Tyler, The Creator. Here are 10 more possible contenders we’ve been pondering. Obviously, this list is far more exhaustive—stay tuned for more chewing. P!nk: The RCA megadiva’s ridiculous talent and marketplace might aren’t even up for discussion—and yet she’s never really had her grand Grammy recognition. Could she be retroactively acknowledged for a killer career, much like Martin Scorsese getting an Oscar for The Departed? Gary Clark, Jr.: The Warner Records guitarist has insane chops—but he’s also an ambitious singer/songwriter with diverse influences. Grammy would already be inclined to love him for his traditionalist bona fides; add to this the fact that he’s been in all the right places in the Grammy system and it would seem he’s due for a big moment. His politically potent album This Land, which dropped earlier this year, deserves your attention. Lewis Capaldi: The Scottish troubadour (on Vertigo Berlin/Capitol) has a breakaway hit with the tender “Somebody You Loved” and his down-to-earth, glamour-free persona has occasioned comparisons to Ed Sheeran. And unlike Sheeran, he hasn’t been snubbed by Grammy yet. Khalid: The RCA soul/pop star has done everything right, from putting out the right records to kissing the right babies, and Grammy already has a strong crush (he earned SOTY and BNA nods last time, as well as two category nominations). After another year of big hits and his ongoing charm offensive, could Khalid walk away with the most noms of anyone in 2020? Jonas Brothers: Republic’s reassembled lads can now put the year’s biggest album debut alongside their outta-the-park #1 smash single (“Sucker”)—with a gargantuan tour on the way. Will the Academy now take them seriously? “Sucker” should be a lock for a ROTY nom (at least), but will the JoBros be considered for Album as well? Luke Combs: The Academy invited Combs to the kids’ table with a BNA nod last year. But given that he’s the top-streaming country artist and truly an act (beyond any specific record), isn’t it time to give him a seat at the big banquet? Badflower: If you’re going to bring rock back into the Grammy mix, this Big Machine/John Varvatos Records band is the obvious choice. They’ve already scored two radio #1s and their latest single, the vaulting, melodic “Promise Me,” suggests they could have a reach well beyond the format. Rosalía: Few new acts have generated the kind of buzz that Sony Latin’s “urban flamenco” phenom from Spain has whipped up. Will she be considered beyond the scope of language-limitation categories? Is she the tyro to beat? DaBaby: This SCMG/Interscope hip-hop star made a splash with “Suge” and his rhyming skills have earned respect. Did he get big enough to join the smallish group of rappers on Grammy’s radar? BTS: In case you hadn’t noticed, the Bighit/Columbia K-Pop septet is kinda big. Their very active fan base extends well beyond the K-Pop niche. Is it time now for Academy voters to deem them worthy of top-tier Grammy consideration?

LOL at BTS.
I don't feel like hype is on P!nk's side this time.
I think the JoBros will get ignored. "Sucker" and "Cool" are nice but they're not remotely close to the best songs of the year.

The upcoming Sheryl Crow album is entirely full of collaborations (from Maren Morris, Chris Stapleton, and Brandi Carlile to Stevie Nicks, Eric Clapton, and Bonnie Raitt) and is out August 30. Screams GRAMMY bait to me.
