After all these years I saw him again. He had his wife and his family with him. He said he was proud of all my success. He guessed both of us had found happiness.
But I wouldn't go that far; I didn't follow my heart.

The battle for last place was quite turbulent!! "I Wouldn't Go That Far" bounced around between 7-9 for most of the submission process while other songs sat in last place, but it ended up hitting last place with a few lists left and did not have time to dig itself out of that hole.
This song is a woeful tale of somebody withholding themself from their deepest desires because they overthink it and feel like the timing isn't right. While at first it is positioned as a smart viewpoint, with the narrator refusing to have sex because she wasn't ready yet, the next thing we know she ruins a relationship by not being ready to get engaged, and then the boyfriend marries somebody else and lives happily ever after, and she lives a life of regret because she chose a career and success and didn't follow her heart when she had the chance.
Reba's vocal is heartbreaking and powerful here (kind of a theme for this album), but melodically I can see why this one ended up in last place. It is not one I ever skip, but it's also not one of my go-tos from her.

Should I put up a fight? Does it matter who's right? Should I ruin my life or my pride? Can we save what we had? And if he comes back, Will I ever get it out of my mind?
He's out buying her roses, And where that leaves me, God only knows. I know I should tell him To leave me forever. But what'll I do if he goes?

"Buying Her Roses" is the next song to leave us. This song was our first #10 contender, but ended up working its way to look like our likely #7 finisher. Unfortunately, it got tanked with the last couple lists, and the results were close enough that this one got bumped down all the way to the penultimate position when it was too late to recover. George Strait Junkie loses a #4 here, but everyone else had this in their bottom half (probably because the singles are so strong and plentiful, tbh). Personally I really like this song, and think it adds a cool energy to this album that would otherwise have been missing. The fact that it is pretty much what qualifies as an uptempo on this largely lethargic album gives it some bonus points for me, and the lyrics are also really good. "I know I should tell him to leave me forever, but what'll I do if he goes?" is one of those classic Reba conundrums that makes her catalog so relatable and awesome, and "Should I ruin my life or my pride?" is one of those universal life questions that country music is so great for. I'm not sure what people could possibly find so objectionable about this song, but it somehow managed to get the most last place ranks of any other song on the album.

As Ruby watches all the others Leaving with their families, The nurse tells her it's time to come to dinner. She says she's expecting company, They're just running late. But the nurse knows the truth too well. She just sighs and walks away.
She's all dressed up In her best hat and gloves. She's all dressed up. She's watching and waiting, but nobody comes. Sundays sure are lonely days, And time can move so slow When you're all dressed up With nowhere to go.

Damn it, Reba! You turn your back on her for a second, and she rips you open with a song about elder neglect... This is a subject that I had never considered for a song, and certainly had never thought about until I heard this song... Now every time I see an old person all I can think of is poor Ruby Wilson sitting there all by herself in a nursing home lobby waiting for visitors who never come :'(
Seriously, what a depressing song, that only Reba could sell so effectively. This song flirted with last place for a bit, but otherwise seemed to bounce around in the 7-8 range.

I'll be the heartless SOB and say I couldn't take the old folks home song seriously! It made the title almost feel like a joke lol but... I'll definitely never forget this one!

"All Dressed Up (With Nowhere To Go)' is a great song but I personally prefer "Moving Oleta" over it. Not upset at any of these three reveals, except perhaps "Buying Her Roses" which should have at least made it a couple places higher.

Yesss, I LOVE the "Moving Oleta" support here I avoided mentioning that one because "All Dressed Up" is about elder neglect, whereas "Moving Oleta" is more about dementia, so the two cannot exactly be compared other than the fact that they both feature old people.

This album is so strong. I have hated seeing any of the songs go, but especially “I Wouldn’t Go That Far” in last place. There’s nothing else I would say especially deserved it though, but seeing that one out first was still unfortunate.

It was quite hard to rank any of the album tracks against the singles from this album because they went on to define the entire decade for Reba, but I’d say Pulse more or less got it right (thus far) as these were the first three songs I would’ve guessed to be out first. It only gets more interesting from here, though, as I fully except at least one or two surprises along the way.

Hey you guys. Sorry I have not done any reveals for awhile. The rapidity with which all this coronavirus s**t has been hitting the fan the last few days has had me incredibly distracted. I've hardly been on Pulse the last few days other than constantly refreshing the News threads... Lol Thank you for your patience! If anybody is around, I would love to finish this tonight

Coming up next, the song that started out on pace to be in last place for a significant portion of the submission process before suddenly getting a second wind!

So we packed and pulled a U-Haul down to Dallas. A year went by and the baby came along. Then his old friends and his night life came between us. Dreams turned into sleepless nights waiting all alone.
And I'm staring out the window through these teardrops Holding on to the only dream that turned out right. We're on a Greyhound bound for West Virginia, And he's in Dallas without us tonight.

Even though I still really like the song, this was pretty easily my last place. It's still a very good song though.

"He's In Dallas" is an emotional song about a woman who throws her life away and follows a big-talking man down to Dallas, only for him to be a total letdown. She takes the baby and hops on a bus to head back home, leaving him behind in Dallas. This song had quite a mixed reception here, with the majority of ranks falling in the back half, but .indulgecountry and Kanenrá:ke found room for it it in their top 3, helping it to be the 3rd most polarizing song in this list. This may be my last place, but I do really like this song! My problem with it is that as many times as I have listened to the album, this is the one that never quite sticks out enough for me to remember long-term. This whole album is so strong though, really nothing deserves last place :(

Up next, the song that was on pace to make the top 5 for pretty much the ENTIRE submission process, before the last handful of lists screwed it over

I’m so glad that this was able to escape even remotely being anywhere near last place because “He’s In Dallas” for sure one of the standout album tracks from this album.

If I had only known I'd never hear your voice again, I'd memorize each thing you ever said. And on those lonely nights, I could think of them once more, Keep your words alive inside my head. If I had only known I'd never hear your voice again.

Sad to see this out already, but it is where I ranked it, so I can't really complain. This would've been my #1 on a lot of other albums.

“If I Had Only Known” has somewhat always felt like a single for me from this album because it’s an album track that has been featured predominantly including for the soundtrack of the movie 8 Seconds. While I was hoping that this would make it into the top five I’m glad it put up a fight and was in there for a bit of its run. This is such an emotional song for me to listen to and I get choked up every time I do.

It's also one of Reba's only album tracks that charted due to unsolicited airplay (although only peaking at #72). My local country station used to play this when I was a kid, so I definitely agree that it feels like a single. Especially also since it had a music video.

"If I Had Only Known" is one of those rare songs that managed to snag a rank at every possible position between 1 and 10! It was pretty clear from the beginning that this song was going to be a top 5 contender, and it was honestly in the top 5 with a significant lead on the #6 song. It was able to withstand several low ranks, but the #9 and #10 ranks literally ALL came in the last 3-4 submissions, and was enough to kill this one.
Obviously, this is one of those songs has a lot of emotional impact for people. Tbh, when my mom passed away a couple years ago, we sat down together to listen to a bunch of music and make her funeral playlist a couple weeks before she died (talk about one of the hardest experiences of my life!!), and this one made us both break down together. Never has a song so perfectly and beautifully captured the feeling of shock and emptiness that comes from the loss of a loved one. It ended up being the first song on the playlist.
I am legitimately disgusted by all the low ranks this song got. This is too personal of a song that means too much to too many people for that kind of shit.

Bobby pleaded guilty to the charges that they read. As they led him from the courtroom, a young voice turned his head. A little boy, dressed in blue, was standing at the rail. He said, "I hope they kill you. I hope you go to hell."
They put Bobby in a jail with forty other men. They all knew what he had done; they were glad to take him in. They'd all seen the headlines about Bobby and his wife. How they loved each other, and how he took her life.
