The Radio Edit is amazing and adds so much to that song. I agree its a masterpiece, as was the entire 1989 era.

Same. I played the last couple of albums incessantly but these singles are just dull and uninspired. The Archer is literally fine, but I feel like she's done this sort of thing before and to a far better standard. Shame.

I think it’s time for Taylor’s “art” album. I’ll say it, these singles are retreading her past. Im a fan of The Archer and it’s a step in the right direction but I feel like she could easily find herself in a P!nk kinda territory (no offense to P!nk bc she’s tremendously talented). I think she needs her Janet/Velvet Rope, Madonna/ROL, Beyonce/Self Titled moment. I don’t think this album will be it - it will be fun - but I get the feeling it’s not an artistic progression. I would love for her to hone down in the studio w a left field producer and create something no one would expect.

Self titled is certainly not on the level with Ray of Light or Velvet Rope and that’s factual.
Regarding Taylor’s artistic breakthrough I’d argue she’s already achieved that with Speak Now.

Taylor is a bit different to me. She’s always making different music every album but the first two singles of Lover have been admittedly regressive

As someone that only started paying attention to most of Taylor's work (certainly her albums) with Red, mind elaborating on your viewpoint?

Speak Now was entirely written by her... People who love it, LOVE it. To me it was a nice effort but well below the previous album (and the follow-up as well).
I'm a big fan of the country-pop balance on Red, which includes some of her best lyricism to date, but her best work from start to finish is 1989.

Red is my favourite album of hers. However, although it has some of her best songs (“All Too Well,” “Trecherous,” “Holy Ground,” etc.), it also has some of her worst (“Stay Stay Stay”) and the sequencing of tracks is just bizarre to me (the three Max Martin tracks are all in between acoustic ballads). 1989 is much more consistent in comparison, but it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Red. Speak Now is also a great album, but I find that it’s perhaps her most underrated album outside her core stanbase.

She was the first major artist to deliver a surprise album drop which in turn changed the model that many artists and labels release new material. She was one of the first to deliver a visual album which is another now commonplace aspect of album delivery we see today. There are many articles on it. It’s actually pretty interesting!

Loving The Archer. This is the Taylor I know and love.
The lyrics are great, love the 80's Stranger Things background, and the subdued vocals.
If Lover is more in this realm, this will be an excellent album.

I've played "The Archer" more than "ME!" and "YNTCD" and it didn't even take one week for that to happen. More of this, please.

Yeah, I didn't have any incentive to listen to Me or YNTCD again, but I need The Archer at least once a day.

For the second time, he was speaking about Beyonce's self-titled album.

I still don't love 'The Archer' but I think if it had been apart of say, RED, it would have been much better. The production is what kills me. It is so boring and goes nowhere, despite seemingly building up to something and she has already done the 80s sound before (and better) on 1989. I will give credit to born though, even with the repetition, the lyrics do resonate well and convey the message she is going for, after listening to it a little more. I especially love "all of my heroes died all alone/help me hold on to you" - that cuts deep.

The whole thing is pretty much perfect to me.

I love all the songs she's released so far but I hope she can find something that sticks by the time the album drops. I really thought YNTCD was gonna be more of an event. White popstars are having a hard time in this new climate.
