Lover gained 149% in sales after being discounted!!! It took her almost a year to get discounted which is great meaning its sales were consistent.
We're going back to top 40 next week!

So when are they making "Afterglow" & "False God" singles? Have they completely moved on from the project?

Have they completely moved on from the project? That seems to be the case. :( Probably her worst handled album in terms of single choices ever.

Have they completely moved on from the project? That seems to be the case. Probably her worst handled album in terms of single choices ever. Taylor Swift has had plenty poor single choices in her career, but these ones especially hurt :/. It's weird saying this but it's crazy to imagine that alternate universe where Swift releases all the right singles at the right times. No Red vs. Everything Has Changed, no ...Ready For It odd release and no ME! period lol. Taylor has been massively successful but I can only imagine where she'd be now if all the stars had aligned single-wise.

I honestly have wondered if she was just so stressed/beat down from the massive success of 1989 that while she creates art she is proud of and wants her fans to support, she isn't sure she even wants that level of being EVERYWHERE again, hence the sometimes interesting radio picks. It felt like this era she chose the singles 100% on her own and they were all chosen for a reason that wasn't radio success.
ME! (she wanted something upbeat/different from rep for the fans to feel good about) YNTCD (to do the Lord's work with the Equality Act) Lover (for a Grammy nom) The Man (to say eff you Scooter)

Probably her worst handled album in terms of single choices ever. especially considering "reputation" was also a MESS Red and 1989 were truly the eras when her singles were best managed. It all went downhill after that. So many hidden gems in rep and Lover...

Some of you need to accept that this era is over.
Can't wait for whatever is next.

It felt like this era she chose the singles 100% on her own and they were all chosen for a reason that wasn't radio success. ME! (she wanted something upbeat/different from rep for the fans to feel good about) YNTCD (to do the Lord's work with the Equality Act) Lover (for a Grammy nom) The Man (to say eff you Scooter) I've thought this for a while. The single choices this era seemed to be more about creating a narrative than necessarily going for the biggest hits. Whether or not the narrative paid off commercially is up for debate, but either way this is what Taylor wanted, and the results were not some disaster like many fans are painting. The first three singles all did quite well in the US and internationally. None of them were huge smashes, but how many artists can keep getting huge smashes for their entire career? I think fans are really overdramatic about the single choices. Taylor chose the singles she did for a reason, and for all we know different choices might not have necessarily done any better. What if she released "Cruel Summer" as the first single and people just said she was trying to recreate 1989? What if she released "DBATC" or "Miss Americana" and they underwhelmed? (Or alternatively, what if she released "IFTYE," a song that fans seem to abhor, but I have found my friends who are non-fans were delighted by the cutesy serve and it has the most streams of a non-single on Spotify?). Fans also overlook some of the positives for the single releases. "Me!" was HUGE in China and helped kick off record-breaking sales for a western artist in the country. Another single may not have done as well. "YNTCD," for all its faults and criticisms, finally shut up the haters who claimed she was a neo-nazi princess and wasn't supportive of LGBTQ rights. Have you heard anyone espousing those theories since she released that song? "Lover" helped remind people of why they fell in love with Taylor in the first place, that she's an extraordinary songwriter who paves her own way and isn't just chasing trends, and it got a Grammy nom for Song of the Year which we know meant a lot to Taylor. "The Man" flopped hard, but it was a message that Taylor really wanted to get out there, and it turns out 13+ years into your career you just won't be able to smash every time, especially since almost no one evens get 4th singles these days. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to claim the single releases were ideal, but I get exhausted of the fans who won't stop talking about how these were the worst singles she could've possibly released. Let's support our girl and love her music. The album is still kicking almost a year later, so she must've done something right.

I wonder what those same people who complain about the single choices would say if their choice of singles would not do well on the charts. Just because someone wants a song to become a single does not mean it will do well.

Well, even if the era ends here, she released her second best album (after 1989) so i'm very happy with it.

Just because someone wants a song to become a single does not mean it will do well. I've wondered this about so many singles that people were sure would be big hits. Also, what about the other way around? Let's say "Lover" had never been released as a single. Would people be saying, "I can't believe she didn't release 'Lover'! It would had been a smash." Or if "YNTCD" hadn't been released, would people complain saying it was the most quote-worthy and meme-worthy song of the album, how could she have passed it up? There's also just the reality that maybe the album just didn't have a smash hit on it, and that's ok.

I think I asked this question before but didn't get an answer. How soon do you all expect new music while she's in the process of rerecording her old materia?

Taylor is such a smart business woman, and everyone knows when a new album releases, it boosts interest in the back catalog. I can see her re-releasing the albums and then releasing new material shortly afterwards. Only time will tell but Taylor likely is grinding away right now I’m quarantine.

I don't know how she'll have time to worry about new material while she's focusing on rerecording. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't think the re-recordings are going to push her other plans back by a significant extent. She recorded You Belong With Me in about 2 hours during a morning session with Nathan Chapman. Then Scott Borchetta complained to Nathan that he was using too much studio time per song so they recorded four more songs in the following afternoon session. That included the time required to figure out the arrangements. Now they just have to recreate the old recordings so they could do it even faster. Based on that they could theoretically record all of her albums in like, 10 days. She'll probably space it out a bit more to make sure her voice has time to rest between recordings, but in that case, she could probably work on other stuff while she's resting.

This is where Nathan talks about recording You Belong With Me on morning and four other songs the following afternoon.

i am sure she has the original recorded master files on a hard drive or something so they don't have to take hours to figure out all the instrument used in a song they did 14 years ago. they can just do copy and paste and it's all up to her to rerecord the vocals.
what i am worried about is that i hope they don't do weird things to her voice to make it sound younger or more pitchy as she used to be. I'd rather have them just the way her voice is right now.

Pretty sure she isn't allowed to do that. They can certainly use the original masters as a guide, but using any part of the masters in the rerecordings is likely off the table.

WHAT. I am shook! Can’t wait to check this out. Also, sounds like kudos are in order to those who predicted a folk direction, if the title is indicative anyway.
