Im so excited. I love getting new Taylor music. So I'm not too far into the album. I just had to come on here and say that The Man is THAT song. It's soooo good. Once I got to it I had to replay it more than once. I am loving what I'm hearing of the album so far. Just had to come on here and gush about the standout track... so far.

“Afterglow” would have been a good title for this album.
“Americana” is so “Born To Die” Lana era and I love it!
Does anyone wish the production was toned down slightly on “Cruel Summer” and the vocals turned up a notch? Will probably think it’s fine once I know the lyrics, but it’s a bit hard for me to understand after a few listens.
Also a bit let down by the Dixie Chicks collab. They are one of my favourite artists so I wish they were more heavily featured.

All the Lover songs are in the top 200 on AM. Lover and YNTCD are still the top 2.
Besides the 4 already known songs, I only heard two other songs so far - Cruel Summer and the Dixie Chick collab - and I like the latter better. I definitely prefer her country sound more than her pop one and I'm glad she put at least 2 such songs on this album.

If this had been 1989, singles would have been (and should have been anyway...)
1. Paper Rings 2. Cruel Summer 3. Miss Americana 4. The Man 5. Lover
But here we are and Cruel Summer doesn’t even have an adds date. Fix it republic!
Overall, I think the album is a return to 1989 form, but I do agree that it doesn’t have as many highs as Reputation. My highlights are Cruel Summer (on a level all its own), Soon You’ll Get Better, Miss Americana, Lover, Paper Rings, Death by a Thousand Cuts.

Fuck y'all. I REALLYYYY LOVE this album on the first listen. It felt cohesive to me and YNTCD & ME sound good as a whole album surprisingly (both burned really quickly for me before) 💗

I still need to listen a few more times before I have a grasp of what my favorite tracks are, but in general it just feels much less forced than reputation. Reputation was flat IMO, but lyrically and sonically. This is much more varied, and while its not 1989, it feels like a return to form for Taylor, which she needed at this point in her career. It is more cohesive than Red, but the individual tracks aren't quite as strong.
Single choices still have me scratching my head, though.
As of today, I would say my album ranking would be
1) 1989 2) Red 3) Lover 4) Speak Now 5) Reputation 6) Fearless 7) Taylor Swift

Had two solid listens and there is a superb album in there. Im not blown away but not unhappy. I don’t see myself using this album as much as Reputation. It’s kinda all over the place. I noticed there is no Max here - maybe that’s what it is?? Im getting tired of Jacks production and repetitive cadences. Joel Little is hit or miss but he definitely produces the more artistically progressive work on here. IMO, this should have been the album:
1. it’s nice to have a friend 2. cruel summer 3. the man 4. americana... 5. false god 6. soon you’ll get better 7. death by 1000 cuts 8. calm down 9. the archer 10. lover

I can’t believe they are not capitalizing on release week hype for Cruel Summer. The highlighted new song seems to be The Man, which is fantastic, but not the absolute bomb she needs to be dropping right now. Anyone think there is a possibility that they are launching something at the VMA’s?

Not gonna rank this album against the others yet but I feel confident in saying it's better than her first three.
1989 and Red are huge career highs so maybe not as high as those?
It's probably on par with reputation which for all it's flaws was still incredibly entertaining and had a handful of great tracks that will age well. It's got less clunkers than rep, although as a product of only listening to all the tracks three times and mostly in the context of the album, none of them quite feel like they hit the same highs as the best stuff on rep. That will probably change over time.
The single selection so far has been tragic though. We can all agree that "ME!" shouldn't have been the lead (I enjoy the video and understand what the song is trying to do but they could have completely removed it from the album).

Just bought 8 of the deluxe versions at target. The albums were front and center the second you enter the store, and I wasn’t even the only or first person buying them.

I read that if you buy them all in a single receipt it counts as a single sale so I hope you didn't #GetLoverToAMilli. Maybe that was just stan Twitter tho.

Let me get this straight. She releases her lead single at the perfect time to be a song of the summer. Had a song called “cruel summer” that is practically begging to be a smash. And doesn’t release it.
Why, Taylor... WHY?!
Anyway, I’m enjoying this album, but I actually think I prefer reputation. Reputation had a theme and she ran with it - this albums theme seems to be “not reputation”

Swifties know how to promote. Y'all stanning for CRUEL SUMMER made me listen to it.
Wow. I've never liked a Swift song, but this song knocks. HARD. I love it.

The secret sessioners stanned Gorgeous but hated the chill bop that was It's Nice To Have a Friend? The kids sound beautiful and it's nowhere near the worst on an album with songs much less interesting like ME

Between "The Archer," "Cruel Summer" and "Lover" this is already a better album than reputation could ever been.
In fact, this is the album she needed to make right after 1989 to cement the sound.

They aren't listening to the albums in a normal setting and they may be influenced by what Taylor says during the session.

I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that, launching the song in the summer, they felt Cool Summer wouldn’t be an appropriate first single. I get maybe they wanted Me! first because of Brendan, but You Need To Calm Down was not necessary. They could have released that video anytime
Also, am I the only one who wished this was a visual album? I can picture videos for the majority of the songs

I love all the tracks from Lover which is really amazing!
Here’s my TOP 5 tracks after playing all the tracks several times.
1. Lover 2. Paper Rings 3. Cruel Summer 4. You Need To Calm Down 5. Death By A Thousand Cuts
and I can easily pick up the next single material. (Is the Lover 3rd single officially?)
1. Me! 2. You Need To Calm Down 3. Cruel Summer 4. Paper Rings 5. The Man

I'm curious as to why Lover isn't available as a complete album on Google Play, only as individual tracks. Is it because of her deal with Apple/Amazon?

Still LOVEing this.
Can't agree with the whole "this album doesn't meet the highs of Reputation", as "Cruel Summer", "The Man", and "Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince" are better than anything on Reputation and Lover's lows aren't quite as low as "Gorgeous". This sails above it for me fairly easily.
I am surprised there isn't a stronger visual presence on the Spotify app. I just see her under New Music Friday with "The Man" (and select few tracks) and way down the list on new release albums.

The chorus to “Cruel Summer” is kinda similar to JoBros’ “Cool.”

I listened to most of this while driving to pick up a friend from the airport and oof, a lot of these lyrics are not good. Need to give it a proper listen, but I found the songs were either oddly teenie-bopper-y or of the same lilting, laid back vibe. Some good/great stuff—The Man, False God, Afterglow...but yeah, also some cringe vocal moments throughout. Hmm.

My one complaint about Paper Rings is the “one, two, three, four” is a bit jarring. It works but it just.. annoys me for some reason. Also that bird chirping in the bridge. The song reminds me of a faster version of Stay Stay Stay, and Miss Americana reminds me of a mashup of So It Goes and Don’t Blame Me

When I saw falsegod as a trending hashtag I thought, oh boy what now?@! ..but it was all good because it was a hot new trending song instead. That and Cruel Summer are my runaway faves so far.
