HDD have revised their prediction to 900K for first week total. Those of you who haven’t bought all 4 of target editions need to do so right away, we have 3 days left.

As someone who is very far from being a fan of Taylor's, I have always given her props when she creates music that I think is actually really great. With that said, "Cruel Summer" and "Lover" are easily two of the best songs in her entire catalog. I've had them on repeat all weekend. Really hoping CS gets a single release at some point. Also fairly impressed with the album as a whole. There are still several awful songs and a few that are just uninspiring but "The Man", "I Forgot That You Existed", "London Boy", "Afterglow" and "Paper Rings" are all very good as well. "Soon You'll Get Better" is a tad underwhelming because I was excited for it to be an actual duet with the Dixie Chicks, but it's still very well written. "You Need To Calm Down" has also grown on me tremendously and I don't despise "ME!" like I did when it was a single, but its still not great (I think taking out the 'hey kids' part on the album version really turned my opinion toward the positive quickly). The rest I can easily do without, however, I applaud Taylor for taking a major step back in the right direction after the tragedy that was reputation. I hope "Lover" smashes and that we get a few more of the better songs on the album as singles too. Overall rankings: 1. Cruel Summer 2. Lover 3. I Forgot That You Existed 4. The Man 5. London Boy 6. Afterglow 7. Paper Rings 8. Soon You'll Get Better 9. You Need To Calm Down 10. False God 11. I Think He Knows 12. Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince 13. ME! 14. Cornelia Street 15. The Archer 16. Daylight 17. Death By A Thousand Cuts 18. It's Nice To Have A Friend (the last two are the only two that are complete trash) Erm, “Death By A Thousand Cuts” is a highlight. ETA - “Me!” above “Cornelia Street” is absolutely chaotic.

Not that I didn't already know it, but for me the album affirms that she's best when writing about relationships. Songs like "The Man" and even "You Need to Calm Down" ultimately don't offer any interesting observations.

Fearless my main issue with the first 2 are that the vocals are really bad so i expect to enjoy the rerecordings a lot

I like Speak Now but it's got less gems (for me), than any other album save for her debut. I don't actually dislike any of her albums. "Haunted" deserved to get a video and "Mine" is underrated af. "The Story of Us" too.
As a cohesive work, reputation would probably fall below Speak Now and Fearless, but the highs on reputation ("Delicate", "Getaway Car") are some of my favorites.

I'm in the like-don't-love camp, having spent a few days with it. Nothing here reaches the highs of 1989/reputation for me, although the latter had some pretty unbearable lows.
I'm also surprised it's her most critically acclaimed album on average. It's 100% not above 1989 and I don't see how anyone could argue a case for that.
It's also overlong. I've had to create my own edit because clearly nobody at her label had any interest in editing this down. Maybe each song has its place for her, but it's a lot to take in as an album, especially when there are seldom 'big' moments to anchor it.
I know it's basically impossible to guess at what a Taylor album will sound like based on its singles, but Me!... what a clunker in comparison to the better moments here. Horrendous song and a bizarre lead-in.
Songs like False God and It's Nice To Have A Friend are interesting though. There are genuinely new production elements there, so keen to see if they carry across to future music.
I get the intent and it's generally enjoyable, but overall I'm underwhelmed.
Disclaimer: I'm a pop-Taylor guy, I had pretty much no interest in her until I heard I Knew You Were Trouble.

Why is no one talking about ”False God”! Easily my favorite song on the album. Very different for her.

After listening to the whole album, I'm underwhelmed. It's not a bad album, but it's not that great. The album is also too long.

Upon first listen I highly disliked this record. But I’m kind of like that with every single album she’s released. And after several listens I’d actually rank this second to Red(Red to me will be the centerpiece of her career when we look back 30 years from now in my opinion). I can hear reputation on some songs but I think Lover is like a sister or cousin or whatever to Red. If Red was an album (mostly) about loss and brokenness, this feels almost like a sequel in the sense that its about love and how to sustain it after the scars of the brokenness. Plus I think lyrically this has some of her best. I love 1989 and reputation but there was a hollowness to them when compared to the lyrics of her earlier work.
It’s nice to have some of the old Taylor back.

This album is actually pretty good, way surpassed my expectations based on the singles. I totally agree with whoever said that this is like a sequel to Red
I have to say, like most of Taylor’s albums, this suffers from some very unfortunate sequencing errors. Why is she so bad at this?! 😂
I created my own track list that I believe creates a better flow without making any drastic changes

Daylight has become one of my faves from the album. It’s so chill.
Daylight sounds more suitable for the album title than Lover IMO. It’s like she’s found her daylight with Joe, daylight hope with her mom, stepped into the daylight and forgetting the past with I Forgot You Existed, having a friend feels like finding daylight.
