I want to like I Forgot That You Existed but it just reminds me way too much of Trouble by Iggy Azalea. As well as that, I actually really like It’s Nice To Have A Friend now, especially the church bell, but when listening to it I feel like I’m listening to a PG version of a song Melanie Martinez would perform

I’m really digging the album! I’m baffled by the first two single choices given all of the strong material. I kinda feel like Me! Was chosen because she needed to drastically change her imagine from the Reputation era. What works better than going all Disney and happy go lucky on us.
Anyway, I hope Cruel Summer, The Man and False God are future singles.

As Rihanna/Samsung and Jay-Z have proven, if that's done legally it won't count for SoundScan (i.e. it would be pointless). The album is probably reaching Platinum in a week anyways with the pre-release streams added to it's SPS total.

I meant the Samsung deal where they bought a million copies of it and gifted it to their users (helping it's RIAA certification but no the soundscan numbers). If I recall correctly Jay's last solo album did a similar deal (but I don't follow his career that closely so I don't remember the specifics). The label using any (legal) tactics to buy a few more copies won't help it. It's gonna be too far away from the million mark for them to fudge the numbers too (i.e. it's much easier to make 975k into 1m than 750k). |

This is definitely a stronger album overall than Reputation. Cornelia Street is my favourite, closely followed by I Think He Knows. I’m really surprised by how underrated ITHK is on here, it’s really catchy, the one that always gets stuck in my head. I’m really hoping Lover as a single will have good longevity and I can see it being a smaller Perfect, because I doubt it’ll last that long. I think after Lover future singles could include, Cruel Summer, I Think He Knows, The Man (but it’s not as good as people are making it out to be) and Cornelia Street, I think that would work as a closing single for the era

I see the first two singles as a kind of "rebirth" phase of the darker Reputation era ("old Taylor is dead") to the comeback of "old Taylor". I think they worked pretty well in that sense that they left people baffled what comes next and they were pleasantly surprised. I think critics were at least.

I'm really loving the album more. The highs like "Afterglow", "False God" "The Archer" dismiss all the lows "ME!" etc... It's probable now on par with "1989" and "reputation" for my favorites.
