"Big Cry" was the only option for last place lol.
"Feel It Comin' On" is a jam tho and got done dirty.
"Restless" is definitely not a song I wanted in the top 5, but it's better than bottom 3 omg lol.
"Otis Redding" is cute but not a standout track on the record.
"I Give In" isn't that good IMO. Sara did well with it but its a boring song.
"To Be Happy" has a a really infectious melody! It is reasonably placed here tho.

We've reached the halfway point of the Restless rankdown, and the song that landed right smack dab in the middle is the Diane Warren-penned "Need to Be Next to You," skating past our last revealed song by a mere 2 points. One of many grandiose big-voiced numbers on the record with a lush production, this sensually-performed song also failed to fall to the bottom of anyone's list, but it, like its predecessor, racked up a trio of bottom 2 ranks nonetheless. Its highest marks came courtesy of a pair of #3s from tim and bigfan101, though literally almost everyone else slotted this one somewhere in the middle of their lists... so in a way, this couldn't be a more fitting finish for this tune! "I need to know I can see your smile each morning Look into your eyes each night For the rest of my life Here with you, near with you Oh I, I need to be next to you"

Yay loving the way the top 5 is starting to look!!
It's not that "Need To Be Next To You" is outright bad or anything... I just found it a little boring and it seems a bit generic to me, too.

I guess Diane Warren-penned songs tend to be divisive? I liked it just fine but there were definitely a good amount of better tracks so I'm good with this one leaving here (I mean after all I ranked it below where it finished so...).

taylor (and SHOOTER) pegged it! The final song to miss out on the top 5 for Restless is the fourth and final single, "Tonight," which fell over 50 points shy of the threshold and came in only 6 points above our last reveal, indicating as before just how solid the favorites were on this record and also how indecisive y'all were at picking the songs that would wind up in the middle. This gently-produced number is one of the album's longest and slowest offerings, but it has a magical and rich vocal delivery from Sara Evans that no doubt carried it all the way to just outside the top 5 despite being a massive flop at country radio (failing to even reach the top 40 after a couple major hits). It was not without its detractors though, as someguy and Troublemaker finally lose their last place, and austin, vocal dissenter, sees his #12 exit (alongside Cody Wants Out...'s). Ultimately, three top 5s and a string of middling ranks between #6-8 allowed it to keep ahead of the pack of album cuts behind it, though it had no hope of going any further than this. "There's pieces of me fallin' Right into your hands And don't the lies come easy baby When the truth just ain't worth the fight No I, I don't want to go home tonight"

hmm let me see... I think the top 2 is locked (although the order could flip), the 3-5 seems like it could be a coin toss, but I'm giving the edge to "Perfect" since it might benefit from the single bias.
1. Suds in the Bucket 2. Backseat of a Greyhound Bus 3. Perfect 4. Rockin' Horse 5. Niagara

Wait, I guess it right and get a perfect ranking?! ... Prediction: 1. Suds in the Bucket 2. Backseat of a Greyhound Bus 3. Niagara 4. Perfect 5. Rockin' Horse If "Niagara" wanted to shock us and make it to #2, I wouldn't object.

Amazing top 5! I wish Otis Redding and Tonight swapped places but overall the rankdown has been awesome.
I just never understood Tonight. And how was it a single over Niagra or Rocking Horse?! WTF?! lol

I just never understood Tonight. And how was it a single over Niagra or Rocking Horse?! WTF?! lol I'll never understand that either. My guess is that Sara Evans pushed for it herself and the label gave it the green light. I still say "Rockin' Horse" would've been at least another top 10 if it had been the last single instead. One of the biggest missed opportunities of her career. </3

WTF?! lol Sara was terrified of singing Niagara live. She did it once on a CMT special and was stalling before the song saying she’s never performed it live. I truly think that is why it wasn’t released. Tonight has aged really well for me, but I did not understand at all why it was chosen as a single back then.

Here it is for anyone curious that hasn't seen or for those like me who want a trip down memory lane: I think she handled the song very well here but I can get why she wouldn't be up for having to sing this one on the regular! Also, man, she looks so pretty here. And, fwiw, I think "Niagara" isn't all that much more suited for radio airplay than "Tonight" was. I do feel like it would've at least done a little better since the production and pace it sets is a little bit more lively than that one is, but it's still a ballad that clocks in at over 5 minutes. It could've been edited down a bit like "Backseat," but I feel like it's something that still would've under-performed, especially as a fourth single. "Rockin' Horse" was literally right there tho. *sigh*

Does anyone know why they didn’t have a music video ready to go for Backseat? I mean it was the lead single....

Does anyone know why they didn’t have a music video ready to go for Backseat? I mean it was the lead single.... Was she pregnant during its time as single? I know that she was during the "Suds in the Bucket" video, which would make sense why the fourth single wouldn't have gotten a video treatment (not that it mattered anyway cause "Tonight" quickly flopped, lol). I'm not aware of the timeline for all of her pregnancies. I seem to recall that she was pregnant around the time "I Keep Looking" was out though and it never received a video (despite being a top 5 hit), so I wondered if that had to do with it at all since "Backseat" was released after it.

Well I remembered there was a pregnancy around the time she was between those eras, but I didn't know what the timeline was for it exactly, so I'm guessing it was closer to the start of Restless than the end of Born to Fly then, lol.

She wasn't pregnant yet in the "Perfect" video though. I mean, she at least wasn't showing, but I believe she must not have been pregnant yet because if I recall correctly the whole reason she had to make such a big deal about hiding it in the "Suds" video was because she didn't want her label to find out about it yet. Which tells me it must have been more of a just-starting-to-show situation, and therefore "Perfect" would have been too far ahead for her to have been pregnant yet. Which means that if she was pregnant during both "Backseat" and "Suds", they would have had to have been different pregnancies 😂
Actually, now that I think about it, it would make sense for her to be pregnant during the runs of "I Keep Looking" and potentially "Backseat of a Greyhound Bus"... Because she also said that when she was pregnant during the "Suds" video, she didn't want her label to find out about it yet because she had JUST been pregnant. So it would make complete sense for her pregnancy to kind hamper the end of the Born To Fly era/start of the Restless era, and have her be hesitant for her label to find out that the same thing was going to happen to the end of her next era... Lol
Edit: Yeah, maybe it didn't overlap with "I Keep Looking" at all. But she took a bit of time between the two albums, so I bet she was pregnant right after "I Keep Looking" and for most of the recording of Restless. Only to have the end of the era then hampered by yet another pregnancy, lol.

I thought it was clear from my post that I knew the pregnancies were different ones, referring to the one around "Looking"/"Backseat" and "Suds in the Bucket," lmao! I mean, she has delivered 3 babies. I never assumed she was pregnant with one child for 2 years. I just knew that she was pregnant in the "Suds" video and also that she was pregnant sometime between the BTF and Restless eras.

For real though, "Perfect" is a catchy jam, but it is pretty substantially outclassed by everything else in this top 5... It's unsurprising that single bias carried it this far, but there is no way it deserves to finish ahead of either of these career-defining album tracks!!!!

First to go in the top 5 is one of the two remaining album cuts, "Rockin' Horse." The mysterious and bluesy toe-tapping album opener with its infectious use of fiddle paired with her deep, rich vocals has long been considered one of Sara Evans biggest missed opportunities at country radio, which helped it to sail past the pack of songs below to comfortably hold down a spot in the top 5 (it beat "Tonight" but over 50 points, an insurmountable total). In the end, it was not enough to get past "Niagara" or the trio of hit singles from Restless. Kanenrá:ke loses his #1 here, and a quarter of #2s (including my own #rip), while landing in the top half of about 2/3 of our participants. It did receive a lone outlier bottom 3 from taylor though, so feel free to be upset with her if you wanted this one to go further! "The rockin' horse came From an old oak tree Just missed the house When it was hit by lightning My daddy painted that horse A midnight blue Shooting stars and silver horse shoes And it was something magic out of somethin' frightning"
