"Rockin' Horse" definitely breathes some life into the album and is probably the most overlooked song that should've been a single over "Tonight". It would've been interesting to see how this fared at country radio as it might've gotten all four singles into the top 20 at least.

Yeah, "Rockin' Horse" is THAT song. Possibly the most egregious missed single of her entire career. Well, between that and "New Hometown" on Real Fine Place That dark, rich melody, the fiddle, the vocals, it all just interacts perfectly to make this song a real moment.

In the battle of favorite album cut on Restless, "Niagara" ultimately won... but it did so by a razor thin margin of 2 points. It flip-flopped throughout the submission process with "Rockin' Horse," though neither ultimately posed a realistic threat to breaking up the trio of hits that remain. This big-voiced ethereal piano ballad comparing the love she has for her significant other to the natural force of Niagara Falls, like the last reveal before it, has long been revered as one of her career highs that didn't see the light of day as a single. Thus, it takes down a whopping four #1 ranks, and a whole mess of top 5s along with it. On the other end though, we finally see our last remaining bottom two ranks wash away, including Wavey✨️'s #13. "Standing at the edge of this cliff Gravity being what it is I'm afraid that I might stumble Cause I've never been this high"

For real though, "Perfect" is a catchy jam, but it is pretty substantially outclassed by everything else in this top 5... It's unsurprising that single bias carried it this far, but there is no way it deserves to finish ahead of either of these career-defining album tracks!!!! RIP to this best-case scenario...

"Niagara" is an incredible song that is executed best from the studio as I'm just not sure that same energy translates over into a live setting. Nonetheless, it is a well-deserved top 5 finish for a song that still remains a fan favorite.
I'm pretty sure we're all expecting "Perfect" finish up at #3 which still leaves us guessing if will it be "Suds" or "Backseat" for the win?!?

In a reveal that will probably surprise no one, "Perfect" is the weakest link of the three hit singles from Restless and is the lucky third wheel here, missing the contentious top 2 by about 15 points, though it also bested "Niagara" by over 20 points to clinch the bronze. "Perfect," a cowbell and guitar-driven uptempo love jam about imperfections with a summery and carefree vocal, was able to score a lone #1 ranking from Cody Wants Out..., and landed comfortably inside of all but four posters' personal top 5s. Of those lower ranks, only two were in the bottom half of the album, with bboat11 finally losing his last bottom 3. One of only two songs on the album to feature a music video, "Perfect" also has a memorable visual of Sara at a drive-in movie theatre singing into an old school microphone, and is frequently considered one of her 'sexiest' videos. "If your mother doesn't like The way I treat her baby boy It's all right, it's all right If in every wedding picture My daddy looks annoyed It's all right, it's all right"

I LOVE this song! That bottom 3 rank is just a product of how incredible this album is... Lol. Still a jam to this day! And yes, that music video definitely got little 10-year-old bboat's attention!! The way she handles that microphone stand, whew!!!

Wavey✨️ girl your tanking for "Niagara"... "Niagara" is beautiful/gorgeous/amazing (just throw every positive word out there) - I was truly blown away by this song when I first listened to it for the Songs You Wish Would Have Been Singles rankdown. As for the top two, it's a predictable but deserving top 2.

C'mon Suds! Bring this baby home! C'mon Bus! Bring this backseat home! I mean, it would've made more sense to just keep the "baby" there, because she literally gives birth on the bus, so the bus is literally bringing the baby home...

Whether it's "Suds" or "Backseat" that wins, the Top 2 is a great Top 2!

In the battle of the two fan favorites from Restless that were hit singles and tell coming of age stories about young women, the narrow victory goes to "Suds in the Bucket," which distanced itself over "Backseat of a Greyhound Bus" by just 10 points. Runner-up "Backseat" begins as a light mandolin-driven tune, but picks up into a dramatic song with prominent backing vocals and percussion and lush strings, telling the story of a young pregnant woman headed out of town on a greyhound when she winds up delivering the baby right there on the interstate. Winner "Suds" is a story song about a young woman who runs off with her redneck boyfriend in the middle of doing her chores, leaving the whole small town to wonder what happened. The album's pinnacle smash, it is the most neo-traditional offering on the record with ample fiddle and steel guitar smothering the track. When it came down to it, these two fought over #1 throughout the submission process and neither one had it safely in the bag, reflected in the ranks: 8 #1s for "Suds" vs 6 #1s for "Backseat," each with a pair of outlier ranks at #9 and #11, while everyone else had them in their top half... but ultimately the scales tipped in favor of "Suds" and it wins the Restless rankdown! "Now all the biddies in the beauty shop Gossip goin' non-stop Sippin' on pink lemonade How could eighteen years just up and walk away Our little pony tailed girl Growed up to be a woman Now she's gone in the blink of an eye She left the suds in the bucket And the clothes hangin' out on the line"
"Moon was full the stars were smilin' God has a funny sense of timin' The baby came on the interstate Somewhere between Jackson and Memphis She finally found what she'd been missing She cried and laughed when the red lights flashed"

Well if it came down to these two, I would've preferred to see "Suds in the Bucket" win so I'm happy about this outcome. My introduction to Sara was "A Little Bit Stronger" (I think?) but "Suds in the Bucket" was also one of the first songs that I came to love from her and it's stayed that way ever since even if it got passed up by some songs on my list of favorite Sara Evans songs! Thanks for hosting .indulgecountry!

And there we have it...what a finish! I really wasn't sure what to expect going into the top two, but I had to give the edge to "Suds" even though "Backseat of a Greyhound Bus" is one of my all-time favorite country songs from the 2000s. Thanks again, .indulgecountry, for hosting these as I know you probably get as much fun out of them as us!

Backseat is one of my all time favorite songs. I’m still heartbroken it stalled in the teens on the charts. It should’ve been a smash.
In her prime Sara was really honestly ahead of the trends in country music. I truly think she had quite an influence on the direction the genre would shift to. Look at Matt Chamberlin, she hired him because of her love of the Wallflowers, and shortly after nearly every country artist was hiring him! She did Suds when sounding THAT country wasn’t cool and look how that paid off. Backseat is just sooooo original sounding. I hadn’t heard anything like it prior or since then. I’m not mad at the results because I LOVE Suds, but I’m just a lil bit sad for Backseat.

Such a fantastic album and really anything other than "Big Cry" winning was going to be great here! Was pulling for "Backseat" of the final two but still a great finish!

Suds in the Bucket is the first song I think of when I think of Sara Evans. For me, it is much better than Born to Fly. I LOVE it.

I've tried so much to get into "Backseat" but I just don't care for it. I do like "Suds" sometimes but it has been overplayed big time for me and I just don't enjoy it anymore

I can't think of a song that has grown on me more than Suds in the Bucket. Back in the day when this album first came out, I hated it and thought it stuck out so bad on an otherwise great album. I was so disappointed when it became a single, but over the course of its run I grew to enjoy it a little, and over the years I've come to actually love it!

Yay! And I hope people don’t just toss the bonus tracks in the bottom 3. There may be a gem or two in there. 😜
