"Missing Missouri," which managed to chart briefly from unsolicited airplay (the only time one of her non-singles ever did so) in the 50s of the chart back in 2006, comes in just 1-point shy of budging out one of the Real Fine Place singles. Alas, it comes up just shy of the top 3, but it reigns as the album's top album cut and was no slouch in this rankdown! Sara's upbeat ode to her home state of Missouri has always been a fan favorite and could've surely been a monumental career hit for her if officially pushed (the timing of its existence overlaps with Faith Hill's "Mississippi Girl" and Trisha Yearwood's "Georgia Rain" -- late career comeback hits for two of her contemporaries). As a native Missourian myself, the lyrics to this one have always touched me personally, and the song itself is just such a jam all around. This fan fave racked up an impressive trio of #1 ranks, and landed comfortably in the top 5 of 2/3 of the participant pool, while only falling on the outside of two posters' top 10s. "And I'm caught up in missing Missouri 'Cause I wanna be with my family Instead of stuck out on this road I'm on And everytime my bus wheels hit the bootheel There's no limelight and I'm alright 'Cause I'm almost home"

Sneaking narrowly into the top 3 is "Coalmine," the energetic hillbilly romper that opens the record with a bang. An ill-fated single that sputtered out just inside the top 40 on the charts as the album's third release due to radio PDs being wary of the timing with the West Virginia Sago Mine disaster still fresh in the minds of many, it still remained a bit of a cult-favorite among her fanbase despite its performance. It was long a concert staple in her shows and feels like the equally unabashedly neo-traditional cousin of "Suds in the Bucket" from her prior album, which is of course one of her most iconic songs, and recapturing that lightning was probably behind the decision to greenlight this one for radio. There's definitely a fun energy to this frisky song about Sara Evans waiting naked at home for her sexy coalminer to come make love to her. It's my personal #1, not only on Real Fine Place, but from her entire catalog. I love, love, LOVE this one. It was actually our only other song to spend any time at the top during submissions... it didn't last long, but the first two lists I received had this one at #1, lol. That said, it managed to land at #1 on seven lists in total, the second-most top ranks of any song on the record, and only a few outliers slotted it below their top 10, including castleoblivion26 who finally loses his #15. "Coalmine, covered with dust T-shirt tied, all muscled up All mine, head to toe Come on, come on whistle, blow I can't wait to get him home Ain't gonna have nothing but The supper on Gonna keep him busy 'til it's time He goes back to that coalmine"

“Missing Missouri” is such a missed single opportunity. It’s my favourite song of Sara’s career. I so wish it had been the third single from the album.

It all comes down to the album's two biggest hits for our top 2: the title track vs. "Cheatin'" Final reveal coming up in a little bit.

"New Hometown" is just plain amazing. I'm not even sure if I have the words for the warmth that washes over me when I hear that melody. The whole thing just flows so smoothly from verse to chorus to bridge. The mixing of the vocals and bgvs and instruments still sounds brand new and fresh to this day. I also love how Sara has a little bit of grit to her vocals when she really starts going for the high notes on this song. I have no doubt that this would have been a HUGE smash if it had been given a release. I love "Cheatin'" and "Coalmine", but they should not have seen the light of day until this one had been done. ARFPTS was the only single choice that they nailed on this album, imo.
"Missing Missouri" is also incredible! For me personally it feels a bit more like a novelty song compared to "New Hometown", which is why it is not as high on my own personal list, but there is still no question that I love it and that it was a HUGE missed hit!! Imagine the 1-2-3 punch of ARFPTS, "New Hometown", and "Missing Missouri"... I am confident that with as much hype as she had at the beginning of this era, Sara would have not only had her first unbroken streak of 3 top 10 hits in a row, but also probably 3 #1 hits in a row. "Cheatin'" could have waited until the fourth slot, and while it may not have been as big of a hit (she probably would have had to pull it mid-run based on her life circumstances, tbh) at least we would have gotten NH and MM as singles! 😂
"Coalmine" is a great song, but I always thought it was an odd single choice. The potential was certainly there for it to be like "Suds" 2.0, but the fact that the coal mining disaster happened before this was released and they still gave it the green light is just such a head scratcher. They took a risk, and it did not pay off imo. Maybe they could have saved this to be a 5th single in the scenario I presented above. Then it would have still gotten to be a single but its flopping would not have mattered!

Also, I am still so deceased by the fact that she sang the 40-something peaking "Coalmine" in the live-stream concert of all of her hits a couple weeks ago, but did not sing "You'll Always Be My Baby" She even dusted off "Cheatin'" for the first time since her messy divorce! I wonder what she has against poor "Baby" 😂

One more thing, I have a hunch this might be the worst finishes we ever see "New Hometown" and "Missing Missouri" have in a Sara-specific rankdown. I would honestly not be shocked if these are the top 2 of her album tracks rankdown! "Rocking Horse" and "Niagara" should give a little competition, but I'm not sure anything else from the other albums could sneak in there. I could totally see MM finishing at #1 and NH at #2

Now the other major outlets may be waiting for the final results to be posted before they declare a winner, but Fox News has already called this rankdown for "A Real Fine Place To Start"

As bboat11 said, this is one of the most-anticlimactic rankdown finishes ever as Sara Evans' force of a smash hit and title track from Real Fine Place absolutely murdered the competition, commanding a 50+ point lead over poor "Cheatin'" which clinches its own decisive victory as the album's runner-up with a healthy lead of it own over the close pairing of "Coalmine" and "New Hometown." "A Real Fine Place to Start" kicked off the album era with a bang when it became one of Sara Evans' biggest chart smashes in the summer of 2005, paving the way for the album to open with a six-figure career best for her. An uptempo falling in love jam that perfectly melded a fantastic slick contemporary country production with flashes of throwback instrumentation and an absolutely soaring vocal performance that brilliantly set the stage for her magnum opus, "A Real Fine Place to Start" cleaned up with 11 #1 ranks. Almost everyone had it in their top three, except for two outliers, and even they were still top half rankings. "Cheatin'" is a playfully biting look at divorce from the sinister perspective of the woman chiding her ex-husband for his mistake as his life lies in ruins while her's is on the up, all sung over one of Sara's most delightfully traditional country songs from both a instrumentation and vocal delivery standpoint. It may have been a distant second and put up no threat for the crown, but "Cheatin'" definitely remains a favorite in its own right. Only one poster ranked it as their #1 ( Troublemaker), but everyone had it in their top half except for a lone bottom 5 from BlueShades874. "Somethin' is goin' on I can't explain but sure can touch It's callin' both of us Stronger than any fear or doubt It's changin' everything I see It's changin' you it's changin' me"
"Now what became of what's her name After she spent all your money Did she leave you just like you left me Sometimes life is funny Yes I'll be glad to take you back Just as soon as I stop breathing Maybe you should have thought about that"

#predictable, but #correct
"A Real Fine Place To Start" has one of the most amazing melodies I have ever heard. I was absolutely obsessed with it back in the day, and that has never lessened! Her vocals are straight fire, especially in that legendary bridge!
"Cheatin'" is amazing too, and a pretty predictable runner up. The way her voice soars into all those high parts throughout the melody is just soooo cool! This song really allows all of her best elements of her artistry to shine through. It is too bad Craig is a fuckwad and screwed this song up for all of us, because this would absolutely still be a crowd pleaser live if she hadn't been forced to disown the song for hitting a little too close to home....

These results make sense... I'd like to move Supernatural and You'll Always Be My Baby down about 4 spots (just below Bible Song) and I'd be 100% content.

"A Real Fine Place to Start" is easily my favorite song from her. The song just does not get old, even after all the overplay. Which is something I cannot say about other big hits from her ("Suds In The Bucket", "A Little Bit Stronger", "Born To Fly", "I Could Not Ask For More") That being said I still love "Cheatin'" as well and am sad at the circumstances with that song. "Missing Missouri" has long been a favorite of mine and is probably the first non-single of hers I ever heard and remains my favorite non-single. Why this wasn't a single when "You'll Always Be My Baby" and "Coalmine" were will forever perplex me Speaking of "Coalmine", I've never liked this song. That being said after watching her perform it on the live-stream concert I have warmed up to it a little more since and definitely see the appeal of the song for the first time ever so I could see myself ranking this one higher if we were to do this album again. Still not a favorite and doubt it'd be in the top half but probably not bottom 2 lol thanks for hosting .indulgecountry! Look forward to the next one!

Rightfully predictable winner!! The title track is among my favorite Sara Evans songs and it quite frankly sounds like something that would be a smash even 16 years later going into 2021 if it was a brand-new song. Something about it just feels timeless. "Cheatin" is also one hell of a song and I'm saddened by the circumstances of it. Why do so many men ruin the great lives they have?! Glad to see both of these songs made decisive placements in this rankdown. I especially love the royal ass-whooping that the title track gave everyone :kii: thanks for hosting .indulgecountry

This was a great result. I would have loved to see “Coalmine” sneak into the Top 2, but it had a solid finish here! It’s one of my favorite Sara songs ever. So freaking good!
RFPTS is an iconic jam and a rightful winner!
