Knowing that somebody will lose their #1, I am going to go ahead and switch my prediction to "The Great Unknown" making a surprise exit. "I Thought I'd See Your Face Again" feels like the correct song to leave next, but I don't think it would have any #1s.

Knowing that somebody will lose their #1, I am going to go ahead and switch my prediction to "The Great Unknown" making a surprise exit. "I Thought I'd See Your Face Again" feels like the correct song to leave next, but I don't think it would have any #1s.With this reveal we are officially at the mid-way point in this rankdown: "I Thought I'd See Your Face Again" placed 15 points ahead of our last reveal, though it lagged by nearly 20 points from a top 5 finish, indicating that this song is something of a bridge between the collective highs and lows of the record. It's a lyrically brief song with a long instrumental in the middle that finds Sara lamenting that goodbye really was goodbye, indicating some remorse over letting someone go and now having no way to reconnect with them. Sadly, the time has come for our first #1 loss of the rankdown, with sabre14 being the unlikely poster to see his favorite album cut depart before the top 5. Ranks for this one were a bit divisive as it pulled in a top 5 placement from about half the participants... but it also yielded a stronghold of bottom 2 ranks including gardyfan 's last place. "Tonight I'll look out to the stars Can't help but wonder where you are So much space and time between all those used to be's"

"I Thought I'd See Your Face Again" might be a bit of an unusual song with how sparse the chorus is, but this has always been one of my favorite vocal performances on the album. Seriously, this song sounds SO good blasting at full volume in the car The resonance of Sara's voice on the sustained notes in the chorus is second to none!!! I expected this song to leave about now, but I definitely would not have been disappointed seeing it make the top 5. My next guess is "Love, Don't Be A Stranger"!

In the battle of the last two album cuts standing, we see "Love, Don't Be a Stranger" fall first. It was a consistent and solid top 5 contender, putting up a near 20-point gap ahead of the number 6 song in the end, and it actually spent a decent amount of time trending as the top album cut of the record during the submission process. One of the liveliest and uptempo tracks on the record, this number finds Sara Evans personifying the feeling of 'love' over a tap-tapping beat with some of her best vocals on the record imo. We don't lose anybody's #1 with this reveal, but we do lose a #2 (mine, #rip), and a lot of y'all put this one in the top 5 of your lists. It received not a single bottom 2 rank from anyone, making it one of only three songs to hold that distinction in this rankdown (the other two are still in the running). "Love I haven't seen you in a long time Since then I ain't been worth a dime Hasn't been that long But it feels like years"

"The Great Unknown," the final album cut in the running, lands at number 4, meaning the top 3 of the rankdown were held down by its singles. It wasn't close either as it comes up shy of the top 3 by over 30 points, so the singles bias definitely ruled this album. That said, this one did exponentially better than the bulk of the non-singles, scoring #1 ranks from two users (@xfer and d3vin44) and a majority of top 5s across all participants. It did get weighed down a bit by a trio of #10 ranks, however, and despite sneaking past "Love, Don't Be a Stranger" in the final stretch, it did not contend for anything higher than where it ended up here. Lyrically it's a fun song that finds Sara Evans suggesting a getaway roadtrip to anywhere and its another very lively tune with a great melody that has always sounded like a smash radio hit that got away. "Well I've never rocked the Rockies Never sinned in Santa Fe I want to stand on a corner in Winslow, Arizona someday And just take it easy Drive me down a desert road Come on show me the other side of the great unknown"

Happy to see “The Great Unknown” as the highest ranked album track. I REALLY wish it would’ve been a single. One of my favorite Sara songs!

Not a bad way to kick off the top 5, with two perfect rankings lol.

No real surprises with the top 5 so far. "Love, Don't Be A Stranger" is just an awesome, straightforward '90s country jam! The fiddle is infectious, and as indulge mentioned, Sara's vocal is immaculate. And while the personification of love is not exactly a new theme for country music, it is definitely a unique song in Sara's discography!
"The Great Unknown" is a straight up bop though, and I am thrilled to see it as the highest album track. I am not surprised to see it as the highest album track here, because it has always felt like one of the biggest missed opportunities for a hit from this album. Although I will say that Sara's vocal on this song took me a few listens to get into. Her voice sounds so much different on this song than it has at any other point in her entire career! This performance is, like, slightly hoarse or something. Clearly it is an intentional artistic choice, but I am wondering where hoarse-voice Sara has been for her entire career since then... Lmao! It's probably just the way the song was produced, paired with her twang being more pronounced than normal. Still, once you get past the vocals being a little unexpected, the fiddle creeps into your bloodstream and the melody lifts your spirit straight into the rafters. This song is SO fun to listen to!
As far as the top 3 goes, I am a tad surprised to see "Fool, I'm A Woman" make it. It wasn't really a big enough hit nor a recent enough release to benefit from single bias, in my opinion, so I like to think it is mostly based on the strength of the song itself :)
This is still likely to have a pretty obvious finish, imo. "Fool", "Cryin'", and then "No Place"!!!!!!

"Fool, I'm a Woman" becomes the first of the three singles from No Place That Far to bow out, which is exactly what everyone predicted/expected. That said, it still put up a strong fight as it came in over 30 points ahead of the highest album cut from the record! This tongue-in-cheek bop that finds a female narrator in on the joke of women being fickle and bound to change their mind, but using it as a bout of confidence in leaving a guy behind who didn't treat her like the queen that Sara Evans clearly is. It's notable for having pitch corrected high notes, which give it a fun rough feel, and prominent background vocals from none other than fellow 90s country queen Martina McBride! Only one #1 falls here (sorry, someguy), while a majority of participants wind up scoring a perfect ranking here as it racked up a whopping eight #3 ranks. Everyone bar three posters put it top 5, and it received no bottom 2 ranks. "Well, fool I'm a woman and bound to change my... Well, fool I'm a woman and I'm about to change my... Well, fool I'm a woman and I just changed my mind"

"Fool, I'm A Woman" bowing out in its rightful top 3 placement makes me happy. Such a gorgeous melody. I absolutely adore how she sings this and the instrumentation that goes along with it, this has always been one of my favorite Sara tunes!

Also, enjoy this ultra throwback live rendition she did w/ Martina McBride, Lorrie Morgan, and Mindy McCready performing backup vocals for a special called CMT Girls Night Out back in the late 90s.

The outcome of this one should probably not really surprise anyone, but... here we are, and it's a victory for the title track and major hit single: "No Place That Far"! The single that really kicked off Sara Evans' career and kept her from being swept under the rug and forgotten after a string of misfires on the country charts, this beautiful Vince Gill-blessed piano ballad flew to the top of the charts and made people take notice to the God-given talent she possessed for the first time. It bests the project's lead single, "Cryin' Game," which was a groovy little uptempo bop that for whatever reason bombed commercially right before the title cut blew up for her. Still, it's long been a fan favorite despite its ill fate, and it put up a fight in this rankdown in the beginning: it actually trended at #1 for a good while early on, but about halfway in, the dust had settled in and NPTF pulled away as I fully expected it to. In the end, the title track put up an unbeatable twelve #1 ranks, to "Cryin' Game"'s three, but the ten #2 ranks it received helped bolster it greatly. "No Place That Far" yielded only two #9 ranks outside of its string of top 3s, while "Cryin' Game" sees our final last place rank of the game expelled (courtesy of @xfer who is the lowest rank for both songs...). "I can't imagine, any greater fear Than wakin' up, without you near And though the sun, will still shine on My whole world, would all be gone But not for long" "Bring me joy don't bring me pain I've seen enough of the pouring rain Show me love's what your living for Ain't gonna play the crying game no more"

Other than SHOOTER I don't think any of us were surprised by the end result and fully expected to see "No Place That Far" and "Cryin' Game" in the final two. I still believe that "Love, Don't Be a Stranger" is the stronger song overall when compared to "The Great Unknown" but I know that the latter has been a fan favorite from the album since its release...even still I would've preferred to see them flipped. And look at @xfer trying to compete with Flops...based on what I've seen these last couple of rankdowns I think we can start calling you Mini-Flops Thanks again for the hosting duties .indulgecountry and I'm looking forward to the next one!
